Could be a GotMism, but the way Kruppe was snatching items in the market didn't really suggest Mokra. I'm thinking he's a candidate for having access to more than one warren, in any case.

- Abyss, has access to more than one warren zevon cd.

It works the same way as banashar and the assasin pass through the crowd: people are to distracted by Mockra to even feel, see or generally notice the mage.

So, repetition number 1000:

MOCKRA!!

And Baruk seems indeed Serc.

ha, I just reread that scene, he hits Vorcan with a yellow lightning bolt during her assassination attempt, which she shrugs off really easily. Seems to be the only example of him using offensive magic rather than just moving things around and closing windows. Don't know enough to say if it indicates Serc though, just don't have enough info from the books at that warren.

While we are on the subject, what is Vorcan's warren? Can't remember seeing that asked on the forums before.

Telas !
But the warrens don't seem very differentiated in GotM, so let's wait until she reappears...

Since we're on the subject of Mockra, isn't it a DG-ism that said it was a rare warren among humans ? It's the one we see the most with Meanas/Rashan ! And the Claw's remark in tBH seems to disprove the notion too...

Am I the only one who thought that Tehol was very Kruppish? They have similar intellects and they are both very closely knit with gods.

yep, I even expected him to be Kruppe, but it seems my suspicion is wrong. :)

Tehol is very much like Kruppe in certain aspects - extremely clever and never explains to anyone else what his motives are. However, I think the biggest similarity is their friendship with elder gods - Kruppe and Krul, Tehol and Mael. This all puts me in mind of what Stonny Menackis says in MoI, refering to Keruli saves them from the K'ell Hunters

"No, he doesn't have servants. What he has is friends. I don't know about you, but knowing that - realizing it as I did there with that giant wolf - well, a god that finds friends instead of mindless worshippers...damnit, I'm his, Gruntle, body and soul."

Perhaps this sheds some more light on how the elder gods work, compared ot the younger ones? Then again, in GotM it is said Krul lost worshippers and thus lost power - allthough that does not seem like what happened, more like Krul just got bored and went away. Which again puts me in mind of Mael, and how he says the friendship with Tehol is what gave him the fun back in life or so.

I guess living for eternity can be quite a bore ;-)

As for the Mockra discussion: Corlo used Mockra to distract the 5 Toblakai gods when Iron Bars fights them. Also, in GotM one of the Malazan cadre mages (can't remember the name, Tattersail's lover) uses Mockra (mentioned when they are about to assault Moon's Spawn). (Interestingly, nothing is said of Hairlock's warren... anyone knows?) Thus, I think we can say with fair certainty that Kruppe's warren is Mockra. Keep in mind the various things Corlo says when explaining Mockra to Seren Pedac in MT, it all fits fairly well with how Kruppe seems to act.

It would seam is if the elder gods prehaps are trying something new. They have already been bloodthirsty ruthless Gods. They faded from the world now they are back and (prehaps?) slightly weaker than before. They are making allies in the world now rather than trying to squeeze into an already full pantheon. Its a smart move and as the previous quote proves, it works. They certainly know how to pick people though. Imagine Kruppe and Tehol working together - unstoppable

Yes, it does rather seem like that. However, younger gods also maintain friendships like this, for example Cotillion/Apsalar. That we know of, that is. It might be that belonging to a warren gives "other responsibilities" so the younger gods are by and large unable to "take the time off" and meet new people? Things got so big, so now they have to run it that way? Maybe Krul and Mael would, if they had the chance, rather have it like the old days? Then again, maybe not, as Mael stated it was dreadfully boring.

It would be more interesting to read where Tehol, Kruppe, QuickBen and Pust meets. That would be, imho, the best scene in the whole series!!

Now, if we'd put Karsa in as a spice, and have Icarium & co. walk in on them...well, you get the picture :D

Yes and Karsa walks over and starts to pick on Mappo, do you think that would unleash Icarium's rage? :D

Seeing how all these books are based on a series of convergances, it might just happen.

I wonder who would outwit who? I think Tehol would give Quick Ben a run for his money.

I have a feeling Kruppe would outwit them both...

Perhaps, but Quick Ben always has a plan up his sleeve. Plus, he is constantly underestimated, to his advantage.

I believe Tehol and Kruppe are very simuliar and have alot of simularities, but kruppe is in Darujhistan and Tehol is in Letharii just look at the dates of the books before the chapters it would be impossible for them to be the same person
