Sorry for the thread necromancy but: Is the grudge that Dassem Ultor holds against Hood explained in detail or just glossed over? And if it is: what happened?

Bear in mind I don't have my books with me, and my memory is muddy... Vaiski/IH?

But if I remember correctly, DU's grudge against Hood is based around the fact that his daughter was roped into one of the chainings by Hood and is now laying unconscious in an Azath House. I think DU's daughter was brought in because Envy decided to do her nails and not attend the chaining... and I think all this is mentioned in MOI. I don't remember NOK offering much news here.

@Garm - More detail on that in MoI chat between Envy and Krul than actually in NoK. Speculation runs that his daughter was claimed by Hood as a sacrifice of sorts to enact a chaining, and that she was there against Dassem's wishes, and because Envy refused to show up.

We do see in NoK just how motivated Dassem is to avoid being claimed by Hood, however. As in 'come back from the brink of death, recover totally and kill a bunch of Claw' motivated.

Hmm, that chat I just reread this morning, that's why I asked.
NoK then isn't half as interesting as I hoped. :)
Garm, who thinks that Ultor befits both Mars and Dassem and also found that "squeeky clean" and "slippery as [beep]" coincide in regards to bathroom floors.

@Garm - I urge you not to let this revelation disuade you from reading NoK. I can tell you with complete honesty that the pace is good, the characterization strong, and the revelations are very very interesting. Not to mention some hellacious scraps.

Go get it and enjoy it... you might want to sell plasma before hand to be able to have the extra cash needed to buy the damn thing though.

Oh c'mon... plasma's a renewable resource. SACRIFICE for your hobby, dammit.

Anyrate, i do think NoK is worthwhile to a fan of the series. Not a necessity, but enjoyable. And there are a LOT of revelations regarding Dassem, just not the one in particular you were wondering about, Garm.

- Abyss, notes Garm owes him franchise fees for that .sig. :)

@Abyss - What if I bind my TPB in hardwood, and stretch some sheepskin across the cover when my girlfriend and I have finished reading it? We could then lend it to you as a limited edition hand bound hardback!

Somebody PM Tiste, he'll mail one to you. Used, but at a discount nonetheless :)
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Over ambitious Elder God? Seems selfexplanatary to me. Which means it's a whole lot more complicated than that. The sod.
