You'd think after Trump, Brexit etc people would realise that 'popular opinion' isn't a good judge of quality.

They've also left the Iron Bank out for a while. That might still come back to bite Cersei on the ass.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

The Rotten Tomatoes score is based on the aggregated reviews of established TV and movie critics, not 'popular opinion':

'The scores don’t include just anyone who calls themselves a critic or has a movie blog; Rotten Tomatoes only aggregates critics who have been regularly publishing movie reviews with a reasonably widely read outlet for at least two years, and those critics must be “active,” meaning they've published at least one review in the last year. The site also deems a subset of critics to be “top critics” and calculates a separate score that only includes them.'

A broken clock is wrong at least twice a day. It wasn't really a very good episode.

And it's a bit strange having the entire point of the story being "petty squabbles distracting us from the real threat" end halfway through the season.

Yip I just keep hoping there is more to this.

Humanity has escaped extinction. Who really cares who sits on the iron throne. Its not even like they will be king of the whole world.

Also that this threat never even made it beyond the North! The previous long night lasted a generation, their are myths and legends about it I every culture. The red priests worship Azhor Azai, their are cities in essos who rule based on a claim of descent from Hyrkoon (another name for Azhor). The nights watch millennia ago numbered in the tens of thousands and manned fifteen castles to watch for this threat. This time no one even knows it happened or will believe it.

What happens next?

Except for a handful of survivors it looked like EVERYONE else was killed during the siege. This means Daenerys army is wiped out and the North has at least been significantly weakened.

Who is left to oppose Cersei?

Dragon beats non-undead army. Well-documented in Westeros history. It's just those scorpions that they have to look out for.

Yes, because 200 odd critics (most of whom are glorified fucking bloggers) know what's good for the whole planet taste-wise. Gotcha.

Somehow there were unsullied in the preview for episode four though I didn't see a single one survive. The lords of the north also seem incredibly happy to go to war against Cersei despite them having just lost 90% of their army and probably their every loved one. These people should be in shock.

Still two dragons should be able to mop the floor with the golden company, provided their isn't some last minute shock by Euron or the iron bank.

Also they can always just tell us that she left another 50k dothraki at dragonstone. Who the fuck knows. The glovers are still around, will john be pissed enough to chop off his head? Dornes military is intact and should fight for Daenerys, they just have no characters left to lead them.

Well, she would definitely have Dorne behind her if the show runner didn't UTTERLY F**** U*** BL*** DORNE.

There were still some unsullied alive, as a bunch of them had relocated inside the walls.

Regarding the Golden company and the Iron Bank, my 2p is that we will discover that the Iron Bank has secretly bought out the Golden Company. When the GC leader told Cersei that they hadn't brought elephants, I don't think that was a wink to not having CGI budget, but because the main bulk of the GC including elephants was shipped via different route and they will link up with Jon and Dany's forces against Cersei, at which point the rest of the GC that came with Euron will turn against her army and that will be a decisive turn in the battle.

I expect Euron has a bloody plan for the dragons. And removing one or both to truly 'break' Dany would be a logical next step.

There were absolutely some Unsullied left at the end. We saw them retreat, cover Mel, hold the courtyard, etc. For show purposes there are as many as Dany needs. Same for the Dothraki. Same for Ironborn and Dornish and the Vale, for that matter. It's kind of ridiculous, but convenient.

In a 'realistic' setting Dany would need a year to rebuild her army and the North would probably break-away and tell her to go fuck herself in the interim while Cersei solidified her hld on everything south and on the water.

And they still owe us CleganeBowl.

Scores among the 31 'Top Critics' (places like the New Yorker, as well as international newspapers) were---predictably---even worse.

What's 'good for the whole planet'? Clearly, spending billions of dollars and myriad hours on a mindless tv show that trivializes global warming and exalts petty domestic squabbles over power over acting for the good of the whole planet. A taste of icy vacuum smirking fire....

I don't get why there has to be such a critique? Like, I just don't do it. Is it pulse racing, tension building TV with lots of action and violence? Yep. Love it.

Does it really matter that Sun Tzu didn't approve of the battle tactics? Not even remotely.

Some people here tear into just about every film or show they watch and it seems like that's a great way to never enjoy anything again.

Why assume the flaw is with individuals and not the episode of television (that is fucked).

Also, I generally like things......until I don't. At which point, I start to pick them apart to better understand why I didn't like them. Why assume that from my dislike of a single episode of television I dislike everything................ever again? Sorry if I'm triggered erryone else. I am a bit tho.

To answer your actual question above. I guess it doesn't matter that Sun Tzu didn't approve of the tactics, but ya know what? I didn't approve......and for me, that mattered.
Cuz previously in GoT, tactics mattered.

God I love the internet.
Only here can contradictory arguments exist simultaneously. Which is it?
Is Rotten tomatoes an example of the rotten core of reviewers who are out of touch with the masses.................. or is it the perfect example of of "popular opinion"?

I mean, obviously it is some kind of combination of both. But still.

Man, only three episodes left. I'd forgotten how short this season is. I mean, if they were going for accuracy, they could spend at least two full episodes (if not more) on the cleanup at Winterfell. The episodes could be a tie-in to one of the popular shows on HGTV - 'How to Flip a Castle'. In this episode: how to clean up piles and mounds of dead bodies before the ever important first walk through with your contractors. Posted Image

Anyway, so I think one of the dominating themes of this back half of the season is going to be treachery and betrayal.

- Bronn. Will he use that cursed crossbow on Tyrion? Or will they bro-hug it out?
- Either Cersei kills Jamie (or vice versa). And the scene will be dripping with emotion.
- Varys (is he still alive?). He's always been a duplicitous scumbag, right? You think he will turn from Dany if he finds himself in a pickle?
- The Clegane's - Sandor and monster Gregor. You think they will square off (squeee Cleganebowl!), only instead of coming to blows, the Hound looks at the Mountain and mumbles - 'fucking twats, what did they do to you?'. The Hound then escapes with FrankenMountain, to live out the rest of their lives that parallels George's and Lennie's from Of Mice and Men.
- Dany and Sansa. *twoSnapsinAformOfaZ-GF! They gonna go full Housewives of Westeros on one another? or - nah- they good.
- Euron Greyjoy. I mean he has underhanded snake written all over him, right? He probably gonna screw someone over (Cersei?)
- And of course they have planted the seed of dissent between Jon and Dany but nothing has been addressed yet. I mean they have to at least address the dragon in the room <<< see what I did there Posted Image right? And talk about sexy time between aunt and nephew. I mean, the whole kit-and-caboodle is sparked because Stark boy catches brother and sister Lannister gettin' it owwwwwn!

Can you guys think of any other potential treachery and betrayal scenarios?

Some other popular treachery theories:

- Iron Bank or Golden Company betraying Cersei

- Faceless Men
- Bran and/or Arya (or Faceless Man replacement for Arya)
- Cersei and/or Daenerys give birth to demon baby (maybe Qyburn 'saves' Cersei's baby)

Hopefully this prophecy will end up meaning something:

'When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then he will return, and not before.'

Of course 'mountains' could mean FrankenGregor....

Also this theory appears to be confirmed:
