this won't happen without a more entrenchment into US markets for the book series. The script and idea maybe like Pumpkin Pie, but no investor will back something that doesn't swipe at a demographic. Sadly, as great as the books and stories are, its hard to make it translate to screen, whether it be the Tele or a movie screen. Fantasy maybe hot, but you will notice the barely a trickle of viable projects that are actually succeeding to be made. The story will be told, but I think, honestly, as a humble fan, that it is better to keep focus on the books and enjoy them for what they are...and start working the business and marketing mechanics before skimming the surface of a water full of all sorts of creatures, where many things have sunk to a steely bottom as rusted wrecks of noble intentions and excellent ideas.

I think what is a zillion times more imperative is to get TOR books to get that series in more hands.

agree. I think it's better to leave the effect with the books than ruining it on screen. Unless they do it really good, which i doubt can happen with the scale the books are written on, the movies/TV series would only add an unnecessary burden to the reputation of the books.

I still maintian my vote for a Dune like mini series (half way between movie and tv). More time then a movie could provide (unless you broke down the Chain of Dogs into sveral movies thus convering each aspect), and the budget was good.

like any of us would be happy with a TV or film interpretation of the Chain of Dogs? we would all of us (me especially) moan about how there wasnt enough detail and how they never showed this when they showed this and how colatine was portrayed well enough

Exactly Tiam, they'd probably cast some useless pretty boy like Colin Farrell as Coltaine, and make fans everywhere boycott the series.

yeh like the LOTR trilogy. no doubt Peter Jackson had a big budget but his actors were no namers essentially (Sean Bean and Ian mckellen not tho). And although he did it well he still didnt satisfy book fans as he left out the bit in the forest and the ending in the shire had completely changed.

i would love to see it become a mini series or a series of movies, then we would not complain:P lol and it would have alot more detail.

yes but the sheer amount of episodes. say they were half an hour each.

Episode 567493359806604684586745- JUst at the end of GOTM this week. will fiddler and kalam leave? tune in next wee.....

I love the books as much as the next poster but even i would get tired by the constant dialogue that fills in the gaps that would be necceassary for the series to make sense

I'd like a series... I don't have much problem keeping things seperate if any necessary changes are done properly - things like the X-men films show that these things can be done so that the story both satisfies fans and doesn't confuse newcomers. It's just that often the changes are poor because they're done by a director or producer who misses the point.
And the aforementioned poor showing of fantasy on telly is largely due to the attitude - and that's never going to change if nobody tries it.
Tbh, in the style of Malazan or a Song if Ice and Fire or other darker books are just what's needed to give cinematic and telivision fantasy a kick up the behind. I want Neil Gaiman to write a fantasy telly show again, that would be ace. He's busy conquering cinema right now though, so I guess I'll have to wait.
I want to actually see an interesting, original and high quality fantasy on my screen. All the money goes to sci-fi, and I don't see why it has to.

Wow, that turned longer than I expected.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

out of curiosity...are you all trying to talk us out of doing this?

and if you would whine about what was left out rather than what was included, then may i suggest that you might like to get out of doors more often?

@Raz
If you slip me the cash I might be persuaded to use my Kewl Kredit (Debit) Kard Powerz for you. :(
At least you can join the free forums though.

And aren't you 18 anyway? They're giving credit cards to 16 year old school kids these days. It's bloody reprehensible. :)

It will happen. If you film it, they will watch.

both of the first two episodes will be available for free...all the rest will be free (in a lower resolution on the p2p networks). how we plan to feed ourselves during this adventure is to provide our members with a close up relationship with us. as a paid subscriber you will have acccess to things non-subscribers could only dream about...watch production meetings and filming as if you were a fly on the wall through our setcams...ask questions of our cast and crew...give your opinion on the show and where it's going to the producers...access special issue merchandise and more...

it is now thursday, june 1...we have been filming for three days, and i have to tell you, the dailies (ie, the raw footage) are awesome...in fact, it looks better than i could have hoped for...i press-ganged my hotmail list into a focus group for the theme music, and the hits on our website went from 150,000 (over 9 months) to 275,000 (in the week following the release of the theme). we've had an incredible response from our unveiling at keycon, the local sci-fi convention, and our press so far has been unanimously positive...so things are looking better and better...

...of course, you folks being the cynical fans you are, you need even more to get you to visit. so...we are putting the entire prototype comic up on the site as a high-res .pdf...
