Well it's out here (Sweden) in full force. Unfortunatelly only in the hardback version. I see no point when all my other are in softcover.

Better to wait this time so the wait for the next book gets shorter :D.

So what is the release date in the UK for AFFC? Amazon obviously is no indication...again.

It was the 17th October I think (according to his website). Typically my bookshop didn't have it a couple of days after release, though I think they had Eldest and Knife of Dreams the day they came out.

@bluesman - do you really have that much willpower? In some ways it was good my bookshop didn't have it, because I do have about 50-60 other fantasy books to read, but if I had bought the Martin book I would almost certainly be reading it now. We'll see if you haven't read it by Christmas.

Worst case I can get it at the library while waiting :D.

I don't really like reading those huge hardback versions. They are unwieldly to read while in a bed/sofa.

With Judas Unchained for instance I can choose to buy the softer version which suits me better.

Finished reading it this morning. Good book, though not much of an ending to it - specifically, the last chapter just seemed to fly past with little impact. The rest is good, though, especially Cersei's storyline (which I'd consider the major storyline of this volume).

I was under the impression that this one is mostly a filler and that he origionally planned on skipping it but didn't in the end because it was missing over too much.

Yeah, he said that he found that he was spending too much time on flashbacks, and decided that one particular storyline just had to be told (not sure which), so he went back and started Feast. Okay, so most of what happens is sort of filling in what happens before the next bit starts, but judging from what these 'filler' bits are... well, lets just I'd probably have been very confused if I'd been dropped right into Westeros after these events, without seeing what had happened.

SPOILER:

The church, mostly. Opening aDwD to find the High Septon was a low-born fanatic with armies at his command would've left me a little baffled.

All my other books in the series are paper back, but I just can't wait. :p
I think I'll get the rest in hard cover aswell, just because they look so awesome and imposing. :p

Well, was in Basingstoke tonight for gurm's last appearence on this tour. Pretty standard stuff - no particularly interesting questions, really...
I did however, record it all on a digital dictaphone, if anyone is interested in his little talk;)

Got all the questions recorded. Though it was much easier to hear his answers. I was the guy in the second row with the white t-shirt... hoping someone might have recognised me due to the t-shirt i was wearing, but evidently not;) I won't say what it was though, as its a suprise for someone.

I will try and upload the recordings later tonight.

Yet RJ was amasing in his first novels and STILL produced them in half the time it takes for Martin to do it. I'm sorry but as much as I like the first three books, they are NOT so great that I would wait 15 more years for him to finish the series. I'd be 35 then for pity's sake! And we'll of course see for ourselves when it hits shelves but I don't think it's not gonna be worth the wait ;)

Then don't wait. I'm sure Martin wouldn't care if he lost one fan. Nor to I think he writes solely to satisfy his fans. Most authors write because they enjoy it. He more than likely lives his life as well as write. They are his books and it is his world.

Ah, I stay humbled by the fury of your mighty logic :p If he was giving his books for free, your statement would have even been right ;)

I can't wait for this, even though it doesn't contain my favorite storylines. Is Arya even in this one?

Longhorn, that's a helluva avatar.

Arya has three chapters.

Good read, definetly enjoyed the ending. Just wish I could of gotten some Tyrion and Jon. Guess I'll get them sometime next year though.

Oh and btw, just to feed the flames. I read both Erikson and Martin. Both are my favorite fantasy authors, but I like martin just a hair better over all. Then again, sometimes I like Erikson just a hair better, just depends on who I'm reading at the time. ;)
