Riddle:
There's 100 dwarfs and their king. every day, the 100 dwarfs bring their king 100 bars of gold each, that each weigh 1kg each. One day, the king hears a rumor that one of his minions is actually only giving him bars of 999g, and keeping 1g from himself. The king prays to Odin for a way to catch the thief. Odin provides the king with a magic scale that will tell the king the exact weight of anything it weighs but as a challenge to the King Odin says the scale will work exactly once. How can he tell who is only giving him 999g? (3)

Quanting:
You are presented with three identical boxes. You are made aware that one of the boxes contains two gold coins, another contains two silver coins, and the third contains one gold coin and one silver coin. You do not know which box contains which.
Now, choose a box at random. Reach without looking under the cloth covering the coins and take out one of the coins. Now you can look. It is gold.
What is the probability the second coin is also gold? (3)

Bonus: In a fight between Rake, Dassem Ultor, Karsa and Brys Benedict who would Abyss say would win? (1)

Riddle;

Each Dwarf gets a bag with a number 1 - 100.

1st Dwarf puts 100 bars in bag, 2nd 99 bars, third 98 bars etc

work out what weight should be, see what weight is and find the naughty pesky rascal.

Quanting has to be 1/2. silver coin box is eliminated, leaving either the gold/gold box, or gold silver box. You have 1 gold, so either its 1 gold or 1 silver.

Abyss would pick Rake.

Riddle: Isolate each dwarf as they return the next day. Tell each one what the scale does and that their gold is about to be weighed, and the perp will hopefully confess and ask mercy. Not guaranteed but it's worth a shot!

riddle:im looking it up. Im noticing that it only says a dwarf is planing, doesn't say he will.

Quanting, the question is what is the probability of coin 2= gold, knowing coin 1= gold. Since only 2 of three boxes have a gold coin, and only one of those has two gold coins, probability is 50%

Bonus question: Ima go for hail mary and say he brings out a non sequitur and concludes Kruppe

Actually, I genuinely cannot remember any answers so I'm just going to give it a go. If I win you can disqualify me. But I think we can safely disregard that eventuality because my smarts are too niche to be applicable to quizes.

1) A lot. Erm, 3x Avengers, 3x iron man, 3x captain America, 3x Thor. Then there is Spidey, Ant Man, 2x Deadpool, Black Panther, so that's 17 in total. And I am sure I'm forgetting a couple. So let's say 19.

2) My wife would know this. Avada Cadavra or something like that kills people, so I guess that would wipe a memory as well.

3) Pfff, that's the remaster stuff. New Hope remaster was I believe 20 years after New Hope, i.e. 1997. So it will be 1998 or 1999 for Empire strikes Back remaster. I'm punting for 1999.

4) The Amazon river. Everyone knows that.

5) Fifth counted from the Sun? That is Jupiter. Fifth from outside towards the Sun (with Pluto gone) would be Mars.

6) Mentalist is Ukraine. Apt, hrm, I thought he was from the USA?

9) LASER: light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation. I am the Faculty laser safety officer so this is a happy coincidence. I can tell you the physics behind it as well if you like.

Riddle:
Well, it won't be by actually weighing anything because we are talking one bar in 10,000 every day that is a gram out. On top of that, the riddle doesn't specify whether the single weighing is for one bar or for a whole stack of bars (e.g. 5,000), so I assume this means that the actual weighing action is not relevant. So I assume it will be some sort of threat. So he calls in all the dwarves into the throne room and tells them that he has these infallible scales. And whichever lot comes up light he will kill that dwarf. Then stick them in an anteroom and see which one tries to escape.

Alternatively, he weighs the whole stash and doesn't find anything missing and disproves the rumour.


Quanting:
Three boxes. A is two gold. B is two silver. C is one gold, one silver.

The chance of drawing a gold the first time would be 1/3 + 1/2*1/3 + 0*1/3 = 3/6 = 1/2. This leads me to believe that it is about the total number of coins, not so much which box they are in.
So when you do draw a gold, the chance of drawing a second one will have decreased from 1/2 to 2/5. Final answer: 2/5 chance of drawing gold (2 of the five remaining coins are gold).

Damnit. I think my wife just figured out the answer to the dwarf riddle. In my defense, she is a mathematician. But I am still annoyed because it is actually a sensible solution.

Put on the scale 1 bar from dwarf one, 2 bars from dwarf two, 3 from dwarf three etc until 100 bars from dwarf one hundred. Then, you can work out from the missing weight which dwarf was the guilty party. (E.g. If the scales are 26 grams short, it must have been dwarf number 26). Duh.
