Metroid isn't coming out this year, so it was not gonna be focus of E3, and everyone knew that.

To be fair there were a lot of games there not coming out this year (Cyberpunk and The Last of Us Pt 2 for starters) so that seems a strange thing to say.

Also, Focus Home Interactive is getting its act together:

New trailers for:

Plague tale: Innocence

Greedfall

Call of Chulhu RPG

and, of course, Farming Simulator, :p

Sadly, not a lot of release dates yet...

Cool, thanks for posting that :p

So this year I'll definitely be getting Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and RDR 2. Can't see any others there that I really want.

Hey guys, I was wondering, and this may have been addressed prior to the previous E3 when we were talking about what games we wanted to see then (prior to E3 2017); whatever happened to the Resistance series? Did Insomniac Games abandon the series or was there a "spiritual successor" that came out that I was not aware of? I played Resistance 3 and really enjoyed it and was always disappointed and perplexed as to why they didn't continue the series. Any of you game freeks have any insight to what happened?

They've made the new Spider-Man instead.

They've made the new Spider-Man instead.

Actually Spider-Man is more akin to and derivative of Sunset Overdrive. That point, in fact, was made during their tour around the various interview stops during E3. Now, it could be said they have marshalled all of their team to work on Spider-Man, so that would put anything else on the back burner. But I'm just surprised that Resistance seems to have dropped off the map.

My guess is, Sony went all-in with 3rd person action adventure/RPG games (something Microsoft was never too good with) for its first party focus. So Insomniac just wasn't commissioned to make another warshooter (same as guerilla games with the Killzone series)

They have a team making a first-person game Stormland, but it's VR only.

Insomniac was, as far as I recall, a Sony exclusive third party studio for a long time. But they didn't like the terms of their business arrangement with Sony. They didn't own the rights to the games they made and the money probably wasn't what they'd like.

So they broke with Sony. They did FUSE, which flopped, and then did Sunset Overdrive with Microsoft. They also have all kinds of smaller projects you rarely see get press, like VR, etc.

Now they're back with Sony again.

Yeah, when they did Sunset Overdrive (exclusive for Xbox One), I wondered what that would mean for Sony. Glad they are back making games for Sony. Really excited for Spider-Man.

According to the rumours they are also making a new Sunset Overdrive. They go where the money is.

Well, one of the directors of Tomb Raider did call Naughty Dogs trailer fake.

He deleted that tweet later though. I think the excuse put forward was that he was drunk.

funny thing in that feb, Trials, Anthem, and Exodus are all on Feb22nd. I expect Trials, at least, to blink. Anthem and Metro share a playerbase so it wouldn't surprise me if one of them changed release dates.

No actual date, but CDPR said in an investor call that they expect Cyberpunk2077 to be released before June 2019, and it sounds like its a lot further along than people think.

You're not seeing it. All the rest of us have, we're just keeping it from you.

Not you too, Cause. I've been seeing these comments on reddit and twitter for days now.

It's a closed door demo. The kind they show to journalists, distributors and industry people. It's meant to inform, build interest and create buzz but it's not meant for public viewing. The demo is from what I've heard from journalists running with a terrible performance, bad controls and assets missing in the game world. Or alternatively running on hardware that wont be able to look that good on current gen hardware. You don't want the public to see this kind of stuff. Consumers are too brain dead to make a distinction between work in progress and marketing.

They've been doing these things since before E3 existed. Journalists and media people constantly attend these kinds of events and go on visits to studios to see these demos. People forget that E3 is not actually a public event. It's industry. It's a place where deals are made and products sold.

Feb 22: Anthem, Crackdown 3, Days Gone, Metro: Exodus, Trials

Anthem: always-online, co-op focused 3rd person open world looter shooter with RPG elements bolted on and cosmetic microtransactions

Crackdown- a 3rd person open world sandbox shooter, whose main selling point is total destructibility available in multi-player only

Days Gone: a third person single-player open world action/stealth set in a post-zombie world

Metro: a 1st person single-player semi-linear shooter with RPG elements and a post-apoc setting.

Trials- a side-scrolling sports and physics puzzler.

I'm seeing more overlap b/w Anthem and Crackdown, personally.

Metro and Days Gone are sorta looking at same audience, but the actual gameplay ought to be significantly different. Plus Days Gone is a Sony exclusive, so there's that.

Also, I'm kinda feeling that anything that doesn't release by next summer becomes a likely candidate for a NextBox release.
