'Universal Cancels Upcoming Movie The Hunt After Presidential Tweetstorm

[...] a "Most Dangerous Game" riff [...] features coastal elites hunting "deplorables" for sport. [...] the last straw seems to have been an angry Twitter thread from Donald Trump on Friday, in which he alleged that Hollywood "is Racist at the highest level" and that The Hunt was "made in order to inflame and cause chaos."

[...]
Naturally, Donald Trump didn't come up with the idea of railing against The Hunt all on his own; [...] Fox News has been on a tear about it for about a week.'

https://slate.com/cu...lary-swank.html

Of course, as in almost every film like this, the rich people hunting kidnapped humans are clearly portrayed as the villains, and the 'deplorables' are the 'heroes':

Trailer:

https://www.youtube....h?v=x8IifEu67yU

'"Did anyone see what our ratfucker-in-chief just did?" one character asks early in the screenplay [...] Another responds: "At least The Hunt's coming up. Nothing better than going out to the Manor and slaughtering a dozen deplorables."

[...]

The blue-state characters — some equally adept with firearms — explain that they picked their targets because they expressed anti-choice positions or used the N-word on Twitter. "War is war," says one character after shoving a stiletto heel through the eye of a denim-clad hillbilly.'

https://www.hollywoo...ootings-1229829

OTOH perhaps this is a canny marketing strategy, assuming they eventually release it (or sell it)....

Seems like something that the Republicans and their ilk would make, actually. Agent provocateur and all that.

Besides, Trump is just as appalling every time he uses his phone. Or opens his mouth. Or breathes, actually.

I just read about this. TBH is sounds like cancelling it was a good idea, just seem like a stupid and unnecessary divisive movie. Doesn't sound like it contains a real message. Then again the Purge is somehow a popular movie.

I mean, what with the rate of reported rapes, incest and domestic abuse, Trump would fit right in with the people of Nuuk.

'"President Trump is the greatest President for Jews [...] the Jewish people in Israel love him like he's the King of Israel," Mr Trump tweeted, quoting Wayne Allyn Root, a conservative radio host known for promoting conspiracy theories.

"They love him like he is the second coming of God...But American Jews don't know him or like him. They don't even know what they're doing or saying anymore. It makes no sense!"'

Love him like he is the second coming of god. You don't know how ridiculous that will sound to anyone who is jewish.

This is amazing and worrying as it comes after Trump also said jews that don't vote for him and republicans are disloyal even though I believe the majority of jews vote democrat and dislike him as president.

Trump's going to convert them (the 'good ones' who have moved back to Israel) to Christianity... the thought of this literally had me doubled over with laughter, but a significant number of evangelical Christians support Israel because they believe that the Jewish people need to move back to Israel to fulfill an End Times prophecy involving the Second Coming during which all the Jewish people in Israel (or at least the good ones) will convert to Christianity. It seems to intersect with the 'white nationalist' claim that Jewish people should 'move back' to their own ethno-state... and with worse forms of anti-semitism, plausibly providing justification for violence against the diaspora. (My father had a nose job but he still looks Jewish enough to be a target... and some of my Jewish relatives live in Pittsburgh, though thankfully they don't go to synagogue, or they would have been in the mass shooting.)

'Donald Trump has doubled down on his antisemitic remarks to claim that Jewish Americans who vote for Democrats are betraying Israel, during an impromptu press conference on the White House lawn in which he also claimed that the victims of mass shootings "love" him.'

https://www.independ...obox=1566407361

During the press conference, Trump looks up to the sky and says, 'I am the chosen one':

He's not wrong. He is the chosen one. Republican voters chose him as their candidate, ahead of over a dozen other candidates, and then chose him to be president of the wealthiest nation on earth, because they agree with him. To my knowledge, they plan to do so again. Can't really say that about most other people who call themselves the chosen one.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yes, but if you watch the video, he turns away from the reporters and looks up to the sky when he says it.

Unless he's just warning the aliens....

'Ivanka Trump to Head New Agency of Precrime'
https://neurocritic....-agency-of.html

Should really be 'Possibly Head'....

'collect data [from] Apple Watches, Fitbits, Amazon Echo and Google Home. The document also mentions “powerful tools” collected by health-care provides like fMRIs, tractography and image analysis. “Advanced analytical tools based on artificial intelligence and machine learning [...] must be applied to the data," [...]

Wright sees Ivanka Trump as the most effective champion of the proposal and has previously briefed her on HARPA himself, Wright said.

"It would be perfect for her to do it — we need someone with some horsepower — someone like her driving it. ... It could get done," said one official familiar with the conversations. "We'd be able to put every resource of federal government, from the highest levels of the scientific community to say: 'This is how people with these problems should be treated and have limited access to firearms.'"

[...]

The idea is for the agency to develop a "sensor suite" using advanced artificial intelligence to try to identify changes in mental status that could make an individual more prone to violent behavior.'

'President Trump has suggested multiple times to senior Homeland Security and national security officials that they explore using nuclear bombs to stop hurricanes from hitting the United States [...] "You could hear a gnat fart in that meeting. People were astonished. After the meeting ended, we thought, 'What the f---? What do we do with this?'"

[...] The notion that detonating a nuclear bomb over the eye of a hurricane could be used to counteract convection currents dates to the Eisenhower era, when it was floated by a government scientist.

The idea keeps resurfacing in the public even though scientists agree it won't work. [... And] "the released radioactive fallout would fairly quickly move with the tradewinds to affect land areas and cause devastating environmental problems."'

Wasn't it last year a short lived internet trend was suggesting people shoot their guns at tornadoes or hurricanes?

Umurica, fuck yeah!

'Peppered with complaints from farmers fed up with President Trump’s trade war, Sonny Perdue found his patience wearing thin. Mr. Perdue, the agriculture secretary and the guest of honor at the annual Farmfest gathering in southern Minnesota this month, tried to break the ice with a joke.

“What do you call two farmers in a basement?” Mr. Perdue asked near the end of a testy hourlong town-hall-style event. “A whine cellar.”

A cascade of boos ricocheted around the room.'
