Well, at least it didn't turn into a run-over. Deserved victory by the USA, never really was in doubt of course. Still, shame it had to be a very soft penalty that opened up the game. Considering this was only the second ever world cup for the Dutch women, second place is a bloody amazing result. There is a future there.

These days I'm all about the Euro qualifiers. Portugal took a few early stumbles with a couple of draws, and that gives Ukraine a really good fighting chance, as long as we can avoid dropping points against Lithuania and Serbia.

The team has been surpassing my very tempered expectations so far, so maybe we'll even score a goal if we make it to Euros this time.

Naby Keita could be just that. 14 assists in 2 seasons in the Bundesliga (2016/17 and 17/18), plus 16 goals, all from a center midfield position.

There's a huge problem with racism in the professional soccer leagues in Europe. Sky Sports News airs here in the U.S. and there's almost daily reports of a racist incident at the games.

I am not belittling woman's football but the gulf in quality and fitness is still a chasm, they couldn't compete in the third tier of professional men's football.
