I ran out of options - if you're offended by my accidental exclusion of your ethnicity, do me a favour a lick my left nut. Otherwise vote and don't pester me with complaints unless you're prepared for a hostile response. Thank you and enjoy :)

alright I've actually spent some time on the poll options so please point out any failings

Do you happen to be American? I have noticed that Americans seem to value the idea of national identity quite highly, swearing fealty to the flag in schools and all that.

Personally I cannot say I self-identify with any state in particular. I am Dutch so obviously I like the Netherlands, but I have lived in the UK for over 10 years now so I like the UK as well. Don't know if that is the same as self-identifying with it, as I'm not really sure what that means.

I don't really believe in nationalism or patriotism; I think that most people actually don't really have that much genuine sense of attachment to any area outside of their immediate city/region. I'm more of a people person, so I identify easier with someone in South-East Asia or Mexico who shares my set of values and outlook on life than I identify with someone in my country simply because they happen to live there or share my nationality. Flags, borders etc don't really mean much to my outlook on life or the way I define myself.

[edit]Oh, Canadian. Odd. I though those were the reasonable ones.

[edit edit]I think I may have just insulted two states in one statement and it is only early afternoon. Guess I'd better start finding some allies to self-identify with.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

"Kiwis" you ignorant American!
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

Why would a neutral, central European country change the spelling?

"America" refers to two whole continents. Using "America" and "American" as if it referred to the USoA but not Mexico, Canada, or Brazil is a ridiculous symptom of USoAn imperialism. The apparent difficulty of providing a morphologically (in English) pragmatic adjective is easily resolved:

USoAn (You-Ess-oh-Ane or You-Ess-oh-an)
USoAan (You-Ess-oh-Ay-an... try saying it aloud, rolls trippingly off the tongue)
USoAian
USoAlien

(By analogy with UK'er, US'er might seem appropriate too; but there's more than one United States. Mexico is the United States of Mexico (official name "los Estados Unidos Mexicanos").)

Hmm. Most of all, I self-identify as a "Citizen of the Multiverse"; in practice, British-Irish-Jewish-Russian-Romanian-Swedish-French-multicultural-transhumanist-USoAn. (Pro-d'ivers-ity....) As a child and teenager I was culturally British (ethnically I'm about 2/3rds English) despite growing up in conservative suburban USoA; moved to London when I turned 18, but by that point I'd already realized that my Anglophilia obscured all the aspects of British culture and British history that I disliked, and that I actually preferred the USoAn university system, and so returned to USoA for university and grad school. The universities and the ("liberal") cities of USoA aren't so bad. My British accent (honed, during my teenage years, with beauty and sublimity alone in mind, based upon perfecting and transcending the most beautiful English voices I could find) sometimes comes out automatically when I drink, or when I'm speaking with people from outside USoA.

Good thing I'm a Hoosier! I'm not an Imperialist then (other than the foreign wars and occupations and whatnot, but that's trivial compared to the tyranny of language)!
