Sorry to get tangential for a moment, but Maark - wtf is a "mossy hyena"?

:)

I have also never seen Jonathan Pie before, but that was very funny and well put. Clicked on another link which had me nodding and chuckling as well:

That free speech police video sucks ass and Graham Linehan should be banished from civilization for his constant TERF-ass nonsense, but this guy's right that the Tories aren't good at governance. So one out of two ain't bad. (What's a 50% get you on tests in Britain?) Anyway, sounds like he's probably the kind of guy who goes on rants about "mansplaining" and millennial "over-sensitivity" just as often as he does the Tories though. I'd be interested in seeing a Pie chart.

I guess it's better than 'screeds'!

I know this isn't Brexit-specific, but in general British goings-on, did y'all see this?

Jonathan Pie is mostly a don but he's off the mark on the free speech thing. It's not even that he's entirely wrong- the police definitely shouldn't be the ones deciding what is and isn't allowed- but he is wrong in that people saying whatever they want is the key to strong debate and that nothing should be not allowed.

Also Graham Linehan was not trying to 'open up a debate' about trans rights when he did what he got censured for and Pie's argument that someone deciding what they want to be called and someone else deciding what they want to call them are equal is facile.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Graham Linehan absolutely is a transphobic shit you should ignore; taking all his opinions from second wave TERFs (though I prefer the term feminism-appropriating radical transphobes, or FARTs) in such a way that you can tell he thinks trans women are men in dresses, trans men are cargo cultist women and gay trans people don't exist

Jonathan Pie defended Count Dankula and is heavily into the snowflake thing so he's also a shit, especially after his conflating actual systematic abuse of trans people who Linehan chooses to target by having followers dox, harrass and out publically with 'twitter spats' in that free speech shitspout video current Illy is resenting past Illy for clicking on

In conclusion you should check out the Mermaids stream where funny Youtube person Hbomberguy played DK64 to 101% completion to raise money for a charity which gives help and advice to trans children and their parents, for which Linehan incited people on Twitter and Mumsnet to log false complaints against (accusations of gay conversion therapy and making out that it's trying to turn young lesbians into boys for some bullshit reason when it's literally a helpline) and had their National Lottery funding of £100k a year for five years suspended under investigation - again, that's Graham Linehan trying to close down a charity for children because he's a fucking shitlord - so Hbomb decided to do a charity stream for a worthy cause, to finally beat DK64 and to spite Linehan and his ideological trans-hating lot. First target of $500 was reached before he actually began, he thought he'd never get to much past $3k but ended up with over $340,000 as well as guest appearances from (stealing from this article about it):

Quote

Guests who called in and declared their support for trans rights included Doom co-creator John Romero, Fallout: New Vegas director Josh Sawyer, Night in the Woods creator Scott Benson, Adam Conover of Adam Ruins Everything, transgender musician Nat Puff, activist Chelsea Manning, YouTubers like as ContraPoints and Riley J. Dennis, and even the infamous erotica author known as Chuck Tingle?

To top it all off, freshman U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made an appearance on the stream, declaring not only her support for trans rights but declaring that the Nintendo 64 is “the best system”

There was a complete list of guests but it was deleted after people found it was being used by TERFs to harass everyone who joined in, in case you were wondering which of these two groups was the most shitty. The important thing is that we live in a world where a silly British streaming person asked a sitting US politician how to beat a Donkey Kong 64 level so despite the latest Brexit news it's not all bad. Oh, and Lineham lost his fucking mind which was also great.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Anybody here heard of some guy called James O'Brien?

I have been watching a few of his videos from a show called "LBC" and he is hilarious. The show is quite sad though.

He can be a bit of a melt, and he willingly works for a company that hires Nigel Farage, but he's on the 'good intentioned but misguided' side of things than the 'disingenuous bollocks' one.

LBC is radio station in the UK and is mostly trash. They give people like Farage and Katie Hopkins a slot (though I think they fired KH after she called for a "Final Solution" for Muslims) I like James O'Brien though he seems to be the only decent presenter on there.

Hopkins and Farage being on the same station kind of explains why people were willing to call his show and get humiliated.

The few videos of him that I watched consisted of people calling him to defend Brexit, O'Brien asking questions until the caller got so flustered they started screaming, and then O'Brien going on a minute long rant about how Brexit was stupid.

Didn't learn anything knew about Brexit or its supporters from the show but it was relatively good entertainment. I'm not quite sure if the callers are the typical brexiter or particularly ignorant/inarticulate/old/illiterate ones chosen by the show to make O'Brien's jig possible.

Bit harsh. I know a fair few lovely, intelligent people who unfortunately voted Brexit. Don't underestimate the power of misinformation and genuine desillusionment with the government. Some people will do anything just to give the Tories a kick. So if Cameron says something is good, they will oppose it.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

There are some arguments towards leaving the EU that are good and make sense, in combination with an overall swing towards a more socialist governmental approach. That said, even if I did want to leave the EU I'd never vote for a Tory plan to do it because I have basic levels of pattern recognition and therefore knew from the start it would be absolutely awful and that they'd fuck it up anyway. It's why May still has a little way to go to oust Cameron from official Worst PM position.

Only a little, mind you.
