Worked my way through, picked off everyone, sprung the ambushes - and got killed when I made a stupid move, by a twin bladed guy right near the shortcut door. Then I lost a whole levels' worth of souls on the way back.
Now I don't usually have a problem with the camera, but I was running up a roof to get evade someone, pressed the lock-on - and the camera did a full 180, and I ran over the edge. I swore.
Third time lucky, finally opened up all shortcuts and had a go at the.. bosses. Did pretty well for a first attempt; will have another go later.
I always turn the camera auto-correct off completely, so I don't get murdered by sudden changes when I'm navigating ledges and stuff while it adjusts for walls. But really the only way to never get done in by those dodgy cameras at all is to also never use lock-on, because it will fuck you over from time to time. Really my only big complaint about the Souls series as a whole is the camera antics.
Did you get the Crystal Sage on your first go? I ask because I was finding the entire fight ludicrously easy, then when I was about 3 hits from killing it, it's like the game said right, 'who the fuck does this guy think he is' got hit by about 6 homing spears and just about eveything else, drained me of my estus and then when I finally killed it I was one hit away from death myself. Teach me for scoffing at a Dark Souls boss lol
I got him in about three - once I saw he was purple, and appearing on opposite sides, I was guessing where he'd come up and running there. He did get me with something though - I was up close and two handing hoping to get him quick when I just died instantly.
I'm out of the Cathedral of the Deep now - good area design there. Killed a mimic by luring it down an elevator shaft. I also used the white stone and went back several times to kill the bosses as I was racking up the souls. Amazing how the players summoning me hadn't figured out the mechanic of which boss was the only one taking damage before calling for help.
Back in the swamp now. Just found a sleeping wolf in a tower, way up on the broken road to the castle. Have you joined any Covenants yet?
I'll check my camera settings.
Was probably the big purple homing crystal ball that got you, I never got hit directly by that in the fight. I actually summoned Eygon the NPC for the fight, he didn't really help a jot, don't think he got more than 1-2 hits in the entire fight, basically just added HP to the boss really lol
I'm still only at the Cleansing Chapel myself, I got that far then went back and went to Farron Keep for some reason. It's working out though, slogged through the swamp killing Basilisks before I was invaded by Yellow Finger Heysel for the second time and she managed to kill me because I got greedy and didn't use an estus. Slogged through it again, this time in the opposite direction, extinguished 2 fires, and found the sleeping wolf before I stopped playing last night. Oh and I also killed these 3 tree shaman dudes, got the Black Bow and Hat of Pharis for my troubles (both of which I am now using
). Plus Undead Bone Shard too, 10 Estus at +2 and I haven't even gotten to the Cathedral boss yet.
Naw I haven't actually bothered joining any covenants as of yet, I'm having to play offline because no PSN, so I haven't seen much point yet, I'm sure I'll look up just what you get from each covenant at some point, I'm betting to pop all the 'Get all...' achievements you'll have to do some slog work with them at some point. I'm more annoyed that I can't rack up souls by helping people with boss fights tbh :/
Oh btw if you've spoken to that women Sirris, who shows up at Firelink after you first meet Anri and Horace, she tells you some shtick about how 'I see no benefits of fraternisation' or something. If you try to give the Dreamchaser ashes (the ones you pick up just before the Wolf in the keep) to the shop woman at Firelink, she refuses to take them. Next time you come back to Firelink after that (or quit/reload I imagine works too), Sirris will have more to say, telling you that you can use her summon sign, plus you get a gesture from her. No idea where I'll be able to summon her, guess I'll find out.
One last thing, Grass Crest Shield+Chloranthy Ring= awesomeness!!!!
