Yeah, the reason Amazon.ca has it at that price is they aren't MAKING copies yet - so I am told. Apparently it takes a month (?)(I guess for nobodies like me) for Amazon.ca to update and match Amazon.com with production of physical copies. There WERE some but family/friends snatched them up.

The price you see on Amazon.ca IS by Book Depository... and they boosted the price a whole bunch. My current .CA price SHOULD be $21-ish CAD. Basically the same at the $15 USD price, only Canadian-ified. They will likely reap a far greater profit than I from the sale of the book at that price and I fault no one for shying away.

I don't know what Book Dep will do, Itwas Nom - but I can guarantee that mid-May the price is going to drop on Amazon.ca by a bunch.

In the meantime I'm still trying to figure out a way to ship some extra physical copies I have that have overly dark covers but the same excellent interior... if I do, you fine folks overseas will be the first to know in case I can get them to you cheaply. Thanks for your support!

Arrived today.
Have just opened it up and perused the maps and a scan thought the DP.
On the second page now.
Just a few thoughts.
Its immediately apparent why the cost was slightly higher than other paperbacks. This is a quality bit of printing, seriously, the pages are of a standard I would expect in a very expensive hardback. I honestly don't think any of the paperbacks on my shelves have such smooth paper, most are that slightly rough recycled grade.
Really neat crisp printing and a nice little watermark in the top corners where the page numbering is. 10/10 for presentation anyway Joel.

Now to the content.
Well that verdict will take a little while, I gotta read it first!
Just one tiny critique, which is more my personal preference than anything else I think, the opening line felt a little awkward to me, I think 'The young scribe tentatively pushed' or 'The young scribe pushed tentatively' would have felt a bit more natural. Just kind of jared me on the first line, but the rest of the 2 pages I've read are great

Thanks so much for giving it a go. I'm glad you like the interior! The interior is super beautiful and something I'm rather proud of. The crisp white paper totally helped ensure I barely make any money on sales so... glad someone noticed! It's nice to know that ME members such as yourself and a few others are taking it on while friends and family balk at the POVs and page count.

It's hard to have an riveting first line when that scene must come first (as you'll notice once you hit the chapters). It's better than it used to be, I can tell you that much :D

Obviously you should have gone with: "the young scribe pushed EPICALLY" .... Then dragons. Tonnes of dragons.

The young scribe pushed the epically oversized dragon dramatically.
The dragon did not budge...

Is there any reason the scribe can`t be a dragon?

Yep, seems right to me.

Y'all's support means a lot. All the hype I obtained through groups online, twitter, facebook, my website... all died down. It's really emptying. Like, I spent years building this complex thing and now it exists just to... wait. I don't want to spam the Facebook Malazan Group, especially after they have been most loyal.

My friends liking it is one thing. Strangers are the far better litmus test.

Quick question Joel.

Could you clarify the time/day/week/year cycling for me?

I get that a span = a year.

But I like to have a good idea in my head how long something is if you get me.
How long is an endea? How many endea to a span etc?

Uh-oh, sounds like Imperial measurements. There's a reason we have metric, Joel! :D

Just got my paperback copy! I'll echo the previous comments - high quality paper stock, nicely bound, maps are good quality prints, typesetting appears decent.

As for the negatives (which you likely had no control over!), I only have two so far - the page margins are tiny, especially on top, leading to it feeling a bit cluttered. And the world map is printed a bit too dark. But those are just nits.

Look forward to reading it soon!

Yeah. If you want to get a good look at my world map, unfortunately it is too big for me to properly upload. The best version you can quickly access is the 33% size one FOUND HERE.
That said, I really have to find a way to host the whole thing. It's beautiful in detail. I will work on this tonight even.
