Like Slow Ben I am beyond surprises or really caring much about the release schedule. I read the third book in 2003. That's 12 years ago. I won't be reading any of the books before he finishes the series. Eventually I might just watch the TV-series instead even though I have stayed away.

Thing is though, we've discussed this before, but I find his work ethic appalling. Yes, you can't rush the artistic process, yes he has commitments and his own style of writing. That does not change that he started a project some 20 years ago and seems to do fuck all about finishing the project. That's fine. That's his prerogative but as a customer I'll take my business elsewhere while he gets his shit together.

Jesus wept. I believe I picked up GoT in 1999 or 2000. 16 years. I dread to think how long we will have to wait for part 7 once part 6 finally comes out.

Like Apt, tired of waiting. bought the first in 1996, still have it (hardback) and all the sequels.

I won't bother buying any till the series is done. The last author this happened with for me was Jordan, and in the end i've never gone back to WoT even though it's been finished. So, a few less $$$ for GRRM. Will it affect him? Of course not. But i'm a customer and i choose to move my custom. Simple.

I like his work ethic. Strikes me as entirely reasonable.

And I'm not sure it matters when the books come out. If I'm still alive to read them, I'll be happy to, and if I'm dead, I won't exist to care. Seems like a win-win.

I fall on the 'he can take as long as he wants, readers can complain with their dollars' side of things.What actually bothers me is that despite how long it's taken, FEAST was weak and DANCE just barely better. I don't need him to write fast, but I wish he would write better, especially if he's going to take his sweet time.

That's where I come from with it. The first three books were excellent, but then the long waits crept in and there was a marked decline in quality.

No, he isn't the readers' bitch, but I too think the time the project is taking is a little ridiculous. Mind you, I'm not entirely convinced I'll read the next one in full, I may wait for the Wiki synopsis a la ADwD. I tried to re-read recently in preparation and couldn't finish Storm of Swords, and I think I've forgotten far too much to just pick Winds up blind. It's a shame, but there you go.

dance was published in march 15 of 2012. Which meant it was likely finished sometime in late 2011. It is now 2016. It has been 4 years? It shoudlnt take 4 years to write a book espcially when you already have an idea of how the story is going to go.

I could understand if writing was his hobby, but it isn't. It's his job.

At this rate and his health and age, i wouldnt be surprised if he croaks before finishing the series.

The hardcover was actually published already on July 12, 2011. As he began writing TWOW in January 2012, your "writing for four years" statement is correct though. He took five years to write AFFC and six to write ADWD, hence my estimation the book won't be released until 2017.

idk man, i'd like to think a piece of rock is something that will stand for all ages. Books kinda get lost and forgoten. I've lost tons of books over the year, i don't think you can loose mount rushmore, its kinda just there.
