Agreed, I'm more excited for Black Panther and Captain Marvel than yet another Spiderman.
On another note Ant-Man messing around in Iron-mans suit was I think the funniest thing I've seen in the entire MCU, bar nothing.

Funny, I was going to post that exact same line from the film but lost my phone signal, came back and this was posted!

Absolutely loved that scene...

... Actually loved that entire battle, Ant-Man was great during it and by far the funniest. The cinema was in stitches!

The airport battle is an instant classic. And that was the sequence that had me most worried going in, that it'd just be a cheesy typical 'hey let's fight for no reason and end really tamely!' fest.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Completely fantastic throughout. Loved it! Easily the best superhero movie of the year thus far. Spider-Man and Antman were standouts for comedy, and spidey FINALLY looked and sounded like his comics incarnation!

I agree with you, pretty much completely. Coincidentally, all of it supports my opinion that Captain America is actually really a hero, he is, at best, a villain with benign intentions. The Everything Dies story-arch shows just how unwilling Cap is to listen to reason.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

It's interesting to have watched this on the back of BvS...as the stories are kind of similar (superheroes cause mass devastation and are brought to bear for it by the public, a very clever man masterminds a plan to get the heroes to fight each other), but where BvS went dark and grim, CIVIL WAR goes for light and humour. I mean it's exemplified in that airport fight where everyone is trying to hurt each other, but not kill each other. That line from Hawkeye as he and Black Widow are laying into one another "We're still friends right?" "Depends on how hard you hit me."...and I say this as someone who genuinely enjoyed BvS for being different and appreciate DC trying a whole other stylistic route with their films...CIVIL WAR really just makes you cheer for everyone across the board from minute one. I mean the ensemble opening sequence in Lagos is a perfect distillation of a comic book issue about the Avengers.

This isn't to say that BvS did anything wrong, they just chose a different path. But I DO think that with the whole Batman and Superman fight tale done, that the Justice League flick now needs to be FAR more bright, and whatever Superman emerges from the casket...he needs to be more like Cap now. Unbendably good. Not to copy Marvel persay, but to give everyone their own airport scene to cheer for.

And after having seen both...I think I enjoyed CIVIL WAR more than BvS. By a fair margin. And again, not to say I don't like what the DCCU is doing, just that it has its SUPER dark story out of the way now....so it needs to pave the way to something brighter and more aspirational. And it sounds like Affleck has joined the Executive Producers on JL over the last few days...so my hope is that he can bring that to it. Only time will tell. I think if the DCCU STAYS as dark as BvS was...they will fail.

I found the writing weak in regards to cap vs iron man.

Okay Ultram was an avengers bad. No getting around that one. Your not s hero when you stop yourself from murderer someone! Your not a hero stopping your own crazy robot.

That said when the alternative to the avengers was shield nuking new york you don't bitch at them about property damage or whatever y had them upset there. 11 dead Wakandans is probably cheap compared to a stolen biological weapon in hydra hands. If cap going Rogue stops hydra taking over shield and launching 3 genocidal carriers you don't berate him for it, you give him a medal!

I can understand the mortals living in fear of the avengers power but you don't criticize them. You thank them!

Saw the film earlier. Really liked it. I think it's the strongest Avengers film they have made so far. The plot is paper thin but the actual writing and the actions scenes are phenomenal.

I was really worried about how they were going to handle the Civil War storyline but it turns out they completely circumvented the issue by not actually telling the Civil War story. At all. This isn't Marvel's Civil War. This is Avengers Disassembled + extras.

Which isn't bad. It works. It's basically the movie equivalent of my favorite comic book issues. Just a lot of super people on screen punching each other a lot. It takes itself serious but it doesn't become too dark or brooding. It's mostly still the gang going on adventures.

People talk a lot about Spider-man but I loved the introduction and presentation of Black Panther. He got a proper power upgrade for this film and really holds his own.

And in regards to Ant-man:

I'll put this in a spoiler box because it was my favorite scene.

Yeah, I thought the plot was exceedingly thin in this regard. When criticized by Ross the Avengers just sit in the room taking it. Nobody pipes up about saving the Earth from an Alien Invasion or, one assumes, a hundred other skirmishes they have been in over the past years.

Furthermore, the world gets all upset over a small bomb explosion in Africa, but somehow nobody thought to fucking execute Tony Stark for creating a country destroying robot in Avengers 2? Thousands or millions of people will have died because of Tony Stark and they're worried about the equivalent of a small suicide bomb? Please.

The film should have been about Ultron in my opinion. And since it's a Cap America film it should have been much more political. The story never really goes deep or heavy. I'd have liked a scene with actual politicians at the UN debating the problem, with various heroes testifying, etc.

Maybe it will come in the second part.

Even with all that I(and most everyone else) loled more with Capt kissing Carter then flipping to Hawkman and Buc in car grinning. That was the funniest thing in movie to me.

His kiss w Natasha back in WINTER SOLDIER was hotter, but Bucky and Falcon grinning was pretty funny.

Also, Giant Man kicking all kinds of ass, clearly feeling pretty good about himself... Vision shows up...

There were portions of the film where the jokes come so fast and furious that I just continuously laughed.

Saw it, thought it was great. Black Panther was fantastic - I thought the actor was really good, and his plot/development was basically a whole movie unto itself.

Spiderman was really good in his part, though I'm a bit dubious of the idea of a solo Spiderman movie. Sassy, overexuberant teenage spiderman worked so well because his dialogue/actions are playing off the other known characters, but would that work as well by himself?

In general, I think it worked really well for the comedy-but-serious tones to have some of the characters to have a lot of jokes/silliness, some to have the occasional joke, and others to be serious almost all the time - it kept the switch between moods smooth. Unlike Avengers 2 where all the cast was quipping and joking a bunch.

I think Spider-man will work fine as a stand-alone character.

Just like he worked well riffing on the other heroes, he will shine when he begins talking shit and taunting his foes. It's always fun when he drives a bad guy into a rage and they start shouting and ranting and then he sucker punches them.

I don't think it will be a fully solo film though for him.

Rumour is that...

Spoiler

Will be in the film with him.

That would make sense. I found it strange how much time they spent on the Stark recruits Spider-man segment. It makes more sense if that was the prologue to some kind of buddy-hero movie with the two.

Still, I thought Downey Jr. has expressed disinterest in continuing to make Iron Man films. Then again, I guess the money is amazing.
