Just finished THE GREAT ORDEAL.

Review after I pick my jaw off the floor. For supposedly the first half of what was supposed to be a longer book, that's a convergence and an ending that would leave even Erikson envious. Thankfully, only a year (or less, hopefully) to wait for the last part.

What's the general release date? I'm guessing that as someone in the industry (from what I've read before) you'd get early access to it.

Will buy the Kindle version but wont read until the TUC is released. I'll do a full series re-read then so might as well wait.

July 5th for The Great Ordeal - Amazon has already e-mailed preorders (North American only right now :p) about release date delivery.

Last word from Bakker was The Unholy Consult a year following - as he is done writing and is on a publisher mandated rewrite now as Orbit and Overlook finally renegotiated for four The Aspect-Emperor books, The Unholy Consult-proper to feature an Expanded Glossary!

Another review of The Great Ordeal, this time by Bakker's long-time writing compatriot, Roger Eichorn (who has some of his own samples on his blog there).

Cheers.

Author Q&A link contains apparent major spoiler in cover image (y'all heeds up, and all puns intended...).

Though this also makes one particular plot arc, that seemed to be arking nowhere, much more interesting.

Sorry about that, Azath :D.

Someone mentioned that elsewhere and I forgot to come change this post. I hadn't realized that Bakker described the picture in the post.

The book is apparently now on sale in many parts of the USA. For such a small-scale release, Overlook are not enforcing the street date.

Canadian book release was yesterday (!!), though, I had to call a Chapters to find out that they were actually getting shipped physical copies. Currently in Ontario, Chapters, Coles, and Indigo stores list The Great Ordeal as "this item is online only and is not available in any store."

Also, Bakker recently appeared on the Grim Tidings Podcast, which has previously done amazing episodes with Abercrombie and Erikson, himself.

Smart, Cause :D.

I think any reader who dove into TGO without rereading TJE and WLW, especially after a five-year publication gap, did themselves and the narrative a disservice. Plus, the way I see it, WLW/TGO are basically TWP of TAE.

Sorry for the acronym salad - been doing this awhile.

I found the summary at the start of the book was enough for me to catch up. I don't really want to re-read books for the most part.

I very much liked the book, though I have to admit the horror of Bakker's world is getting a little much at times. When the last book is out I think I can go the rest of my life without reading about throbbing phalluses and incessant rutting.
