And it appears, at least according to someone who saw him regularly before this event, that Paddock fit that self-important, toxic, patriarchal domestic abuser profile that we've come to know and love in recent years.

Vengeance is 100% right about the NRA being a terrorist organization, and while their membership might be relatively more diverse than one would expect, their real bankroll is the gun industry and their constituency is angry (often but not always white) male losers with yellow bellies and a chip on their shoulder about life in general and women in particular.

I would say the average NRA member is not a loser by the usual sense of the word. The large majority of them have succeeded by the usual standards of society - they have money (enough to have a luxury item like a gun or many guns, houses, support families), have spouses, jobs, and enough spare time, energy, and money to make the NRA a political and fundraising force.
The broke loser narrative isn't all that accurate in the aggregate. It's the somewhat middle class, yet still financially or personally insecure who end up murdering people like this. A loss of face, a loss of position, a leaving spouse, a business failure and so on all become "valid" reasons to pay back an unfair society or persons in violence. And the fucking anti hero narrative thing is so catchy.

Yah, I was differentiating between the NRA's membership in general and the NRA/gun lobby's actual constituency -- 2nd Amendment fetishists who "collect" (ie stockpile) weapons and are the real source of profits (on the civilian end, at least). The kind of people Republicans are paid to support when they oppose bills barring the sale of guns to domestic abusers, for example. I never said, and wouldn't, that it's a broke or poor person problem.
In short, I agree with you, but the people you describe are the ones I meant by "losers".

Everything you guys have been saying about the NRA and racism is neatly summed up here, with the_donald's reaction before and after they found out who the LV shooter was... Read and become more depressed!

Not a great summary of r/the_donald, Tiste. None of those users appear on both sides of compilation of images. I don't enter the donald but I assume it's much like the rest of the big subreddits. There will be thousands of users who all have different views of what "The truth" is. Subreddits aren't homogeneous enities, much like all members of the Malazan Empire don't all all agree that Indiana Jones 4 is the best Indy film (Even though we all know it is).
EDIT: Just visited r/the_donald. That place is like 4chan for politically active teenagers.

You had to go there, didn't you. You just had to go there.....
Nnnnngghh.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

@ Andorian: America has a Narco-State to the south with a completely unsecured border.. think prohibition was bad ? Imagine arming the cartels with guns, weapons, etc the could import into the US black market. People seem to totally discount this reality, that this wouldn't be a problem. Fantasy-land.
It will be interesting on slide locks are going to be brought into the discussion, but the same trick can be done with a semi and a rubberband except shooting from the hip..https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=m5XzQ1BS7gU
On the other side of this argument is remember this situation may have been prevented with a different legal ruling so hopefully we hit new headway there.
I forgot the Aurora case name.. someone here in law would know, but since Aurora like situations are one offs corporations essentially the corps aren't responsible for security relating to this level incidents. Therefore, it isn't something they have to plan for... as they are unpreventable and unique I think what the ruling on Aurora suggested. Please correct me if that's the right one. Imagine counter-snipers at concerts...
On the flip side people would lose it if they had to go though millimeter level dectors, unless there is some more sci-fi level system there are probably hundreds of these in the US with these level of environments.. and you know there's going to be that ahole copycat.
The other part is why don't we have videos of this guy entering the casino, dragging this luggage in.. there's some info being suppressed. Manifesto maybe ?

You make it sound like hordes of Mexican thugs just roll across the border and into people's homes. I am sure that is actually not the case. The US-Mexico border is heavily patrolled. You want to see an open border? Try the India-Bangladesh one. People pop over for lunch,
This was unpreventable? This guy had 17-19 legally bought rifles, about 6 of which he bought in the days immediately preceding the shooting. Is it that difficult to have a central gun directory which triggers a flag when a guy has more than 2-3 rifles? I mean how many rifles does one person need? You can only shoot one at a time, and this is the kind of stocking up you do for war or siege, not home invasion.
Also I found out that armour piercing ammunition is legal and publicly available. WTF. Why? In which hunting and defence scenario do you expect to shoot through armour plate?

Right? The idea that the Mexican-US border is unsecured is...a level of tin-foil-hattery/Info Wars-ish as to be laughable. Along the lines of "A wall will stop them!"...fundamentally misunderstanding what a country border is and how it functions. It's not a castle you can fortify Trump...it is a 3145mile stretch of geography. And most people who get in illegally aren't sneaking across the invisible border like Trump saw in movies.

The insistence upon Mexico being a failed and narcotics fueled state conveniently leave out the American part in creating enormous levels of that even being a thing.

The video won't play for me. I get an error: "An error occurred. Please try again later. (Playback ID: 1c5UCu8E0oZriEy4)" This has happened for me for some of Apt's posted videos too. I think it may be YouTube's regional restriction policy or something. Do any of you guys know away around that? And yeah, I know, moving to Europe is one answer, but yeah, short of moving to the region it is allowed, is there another way?

I examined the guts. I think the link at it was initally posted included the specification that it is from a list similar YouTube vids from the channel.
www.youtube.com/embed/9pOiOhxujsE&list=PLOKWcH1zBl2kfnCwyyZWk5MW28lgaNa7L
So I parsed out the id for just the video and plugged it into a youtube link without the list specification. This works for me. I'm hoping its the video intended to be posted.
