Dany's drama for the sake of drama confirmed popular with Trump voters.

So if Brienne is off to Riverrun, how many Oath Breakers will she get to kill using Oathkeeper?

Oathbreakers aside, it's too bad that the Bloody Mummers were barely a thing in the show; Brienne got to kill several of them on her way to Riverrun in the books; the first was actually her first kill, ever. That actually struck me as strange when I read it again recently; I was sure she had killed someone before Shagwell. But her thoughts make it pretty plain that was her first. I'm rewatching the show, and today I watched the death of Renly, where Brienne apparently killed a couple of his Kingsguard. I guess that didn't happen in the books. (I only reread Brienne's chapters in AFFC, for a refresher on the upcoming Ian McShane plot, but I have started GOT and we'll see how that goes.)

Did Rorge and Biter ever die in the show? At least they were actually cast. On my rewatch, at this point only Jaquen has been seen since they came to Harrenhal; he just killed the first of Arya's three names. I can't remember if Rorge and Biter appear after this.

You have Jaime on the way there, and of course there are all the Frey's that participated in the Red Wedding. I like the symmetry of it, but considering how bad her luck has been so far, something will inevitably have to go wrong.

According to set leaks, she and Jaime are going to have a confrontation of some kind. That's pretty predictable, though. It's hard to see Brienne going on a quest to kill Freys unless she meets Lady Stoneheart. (Which is, of course, entirely possible and even likely at this point.)

While the scene with Bran and Benjen probably had the most import, for his visions etc, I found the way it all unfolded to bit a bit underwhelming, as it felt kinda infodump-ish

Agreed. Also the long pause on him taking off his scarf was also cheesy as fuck. But fitting for fanservice. :p

Good episode. The ending didn't really feel deserved though, especially after how the fourth episode ended. Did we really need another rousing Dany moment? I think a much more effective end to the episode would have been Arya blowing out the candle.

In my headcanon that had already become the ending. I think the Dany scene would have worked better a little earlier in the show.

I do think Daario makes a very good point: Dany is a conqueror, not a ruler.

That description fits Robert Baratheon a lot better than it fits Dany. She's made a ton of mistakes but she was a teenager, for crying out loud. She has the potential to be a great ruler, if she could keep the madness at bay, and if she lived long enough.

I had to wade through IMDb to figure out WTF you were talking about. Of course, I could have just done that in the first place.

So yeah, there's a dearth of old enemies for Brienne to kill. I also had to wade through IMDb to figure out what happened to Locke (our Vargo Hoat substitute). I forgot that he got sent to the Wall, and that he was killed by Bran-as-Hodor. In the books, Hoat was killed by Gregor Clegane 'off-screen'. Brienne heard about it from the Mummers she killed on Cracklaw Point.

I decided to catch up on reddit today (sort of) and there are a lot of people theorizing that the High Sparrow's new target could be Qyburn or even the Mountain.

The wife and I were talking and she believes the Sparrows found the Hound when he was dying and cared for him and they have him as a secret weapon. Cersei is so confident about trial by combat because she has the Mountain. She thinks the Hound will be the Sparrow's champion and kill Clegane.

This theory is so popular that it has a name: Cleganebowl. We've discussed it quite a bit upthread.

Another interesting reminder I just came across on reddit: Bronn knows about Lancel and could potentially tell Jaime.

I think the Hound is likely, but another possibility is Loras.
Actually, going back to that contest in S1, some sort of involvement of all three of them would make sense.

THE HYPE IS REAL!!

I agree with whoever said that filler episodes are necessary. This one was low on action, but interesting nonetheless. You can't end every episode with a "Hold the Door!" moment, though I think Arya blowing the candle out would have been a better stopping point.

Randall Tarly was great, really powerful character, I wonder if Sam will use Heartsbane to kill him at some point.

Looking forward to seeing what Jon and Sansa are up to - remind me again, why did Sansa send Brienne away?

I do like this possibility, but is Loras in any shape to fight? Though I guess it's no worse than a "clearly lame" gravedigger.

If it's Loras and Loras loses (quite possible, considering his fate in the books), then Cersei would be off the hook no matter what the Hound did. Same vice-versa. The Faith can only have one champion.

Also, it seems Margaery would object to her brother being used in this fashion, since it's very likely he'll die. Perhaps the roles will be reversed and it's Loras who will finish Gregor when the Hound falls.

We know Loras can joust like the best of them, but is no match for either with a sword.
I agree there is no way Sparrow or Tyrells would run him vs the Mountainzilla. An ideal situation would be the Mountain vs. all three sand snakes, with 6 eye gougings.

I just rewatched the scene where Jaqen and Arya part ways. Jaqen says, "A girl has many names on her lips. Joffrey, Cersei, Tywin Lannister. Ilyn Payne, the Hound. Names to offer up to the Red God. She could offer them all, one by one."

I checked the books, and the scene is faithfully portrayed in some parts, but not in that part. That line is show only. Jaqen does however invoke the Red God in the books when he tells Arya to give him three names.

Edit: Also, the season 3 premiere has the snowy sunrise landscape that Bran saw in his visions. It's when Sam is running from the White Walkers, and it's the first thing you see in that episode. It's not actually sunrise; it's just the sun peeking out momentarily in the middle of that very sudden snowstorm.

Caught up.

I'm just a little sad with the TV show finally making plot progression. Progression the books never managed it's dissapoitnitng to me that we are now going backwards to books 3 and 4 etc. Lady stoneheart, siege of riverrun etc. My only hope is they finally show readers why Jaime killed Arys. He got the short end of the stick in the show.

They have at least mentioned it in the show. Ned and Jaime discussed it when Ned arrived in King's Landing, and I think Jaime and Brienne also discussed it in their bath at Harrenhal. (Haven't gotten there in my rewatch yet.) It was mentioned a couple of other times without the full details. You'd think we'd have gotten a hint of it in Bran's visions if they were going to show it, though.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there were clear Jaime & Arys scenes in Bran's visions. And tons of unexploded wildfire still present under the city....
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Yes but those scenes were quick. We will get the full thing eventually though I am sure.

Is terez right? Did jaime explain himself fully before? I dont recall that? Which is sad because thats when in the books you realize that he is a tragic hero

More importantly, Jaime went into great detail about it after getting his hand cut off while bathing with Bri

Quote

Jamie:You've heard of wildfire?
Brienne: Of course
Jamie: The Mad King was obsessed with it.
He loved to watch people burn, the way their skin blackened and blistered and melted off their bones.
He burned lords he didn't like.
He burned Hands who disobeyed him.
He burned anyone who was against him.
Before long, half the country was against him.
Aerys saw traitors everywhere.
So he had his pyromancer place caches of wildfire all over the city-- beneath the Sept of Baelor and the slums of Flea Bottom.
Under houses, stables, taverns.
Even beneath the Red Keep itself.
Finally, the day of reckoning came.
Robert Baratheon marched on the capital after his victory at the Trident.
But my father arrived first with the whole Lannister army at his back, promising to defend the city against the rebels.
I knew my father better than that.
He's never been one to pick the losing side.
I told the Mad King as much.
I urged him to surrender peacefully.
But the king didn't listen to me.
He didn't listen to Varys who tried to warn him.
But he did listen to Grand Maester Pycelle, that grey, sunken cunt.
"You can trust the Lannisters," he said.
"The Lannisters have always been true friends of the crown.
" So we opened the gates and my father sacked the city.
Once again, I came to the king, begging him to surrender.
He told me to bring him my father's head.
Then he turned to his pyromancer.
"Burn them all," he said.
"Burn them in their homes.
Burn them in their beds.
" Tell me, if your precious Renly commanded you to kill your own father and stand by while thousands of men, women, and children burned alive, would you have done it? Would you have kept your oath then? First, I killed the pyromancer.
And then when the king turned to flee, I drove my sword into his back.
"Burn them all," he kept saying.
"Burn them all.
" I don't think he expected to die.
He-- he meant to burn with the rest of us and rise again, reborn as a dragon to turn his enemies to ash.
I slit his throat to make sure that didn't happen.
That's where Ned Stark found me.

Brienne: If this is true why didn't you tell anyone? Why didn't you tell Lord Stark?
Jamie: Stark? You think the honorable Ned Stark wanted to hear my side? He judged me guilty the moment he set eyes on me.
By what right does the wolf judge the lion? - By what right?

Nope. Season 4, Episode 2.

In the books he used a tiny, tiny amount. There's still enough in the city to blow the whole place to kingdom come. In the TV show I'm not sure if they've specified the amounts involved.
