My fear is that the tv series will be far more SHANNARA than GoT.
Judkins has an actual decent TV writing cv post SURVIVOR, with things like CHUCK, HEMLOCK GROVE, and AoS... he can do genre, and he can do sf/fantasy in the tv medium. None of those shows strike me as close to what WoT needs to be, so I'm on the fence about his involvement.
I'm sceptical as fuck with Sony's. It's Sony... look at their track record with superheros and it's not wildly encouraging.

Mwoah. Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse, Venom, the first two Toby Maguire spideys, all not too bad. Spiderman 3 was a bit of a mess, but both Venom and the Spiderverse animated film are quite edgy.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

That's the weird thing, WOT14 is absolutely fucking brilliant. It's a wild ride through that entire tome.
Agreed! It was never a series I got remotely emotionally involved with but boy, felt some of those deaths!

I just hope they pull back from the identity politics rather than leaning into it. I don't want to watch a TV series about the battle between the sexes but one sex has magic!

Except then there's Randy Thor, who has sexy magic.

I agree. It got old in the books and I don't need to see it get old even quicker on TV.

But how else will we get all that crucial braid-tugging? If you get rid of all that, you've just reduced it to a bunch of women trying to out-sneer each other. Plus some ... you know ... extraneous actual plot.

Rosamund Pike can play frosty bitch really well in fairness, I assume she's going to go eddy Murphy and play every female character bar Min

With added Darkhounds. Because I always liked it when they showed up - they stick out in my memory for some reason.
The current climate is a good point - WoT's politics as of the books have not aged that well, but it's perfectly possible to make the series glossing over the more heinous bits without making a modern statement out of it.
What I hope TV execs are learning is that the internet is NEVER happy no matter what you do - but that doesn't mean you have to listen or try and pre-empt it, necessarily.
I like the idea of Rosamund Pike for Moiraine. The comments bitching that she's too tall tickled me though. Say it with me - ACTING. You don't cast someone who's a pitch perfect look of a character if they can't act for shit. You cast someone you think can play the role really well. Emilia Clarke doesn't have silver hair or purple eyes last time I looked, didn't stop her being a damn good Mother of Dragons. But I get it - we're going to be in for all the nitpicking until the show lands.

Rosamund Pike is an excellent choice! I've loved her since she did Joe Wright's PRIDE & PREJUDICE.
Can easily picture her as Moiraine.

Despite my earlier stated pessimism overall, I think Rosamund Pike is a pretty fine choice for Moiraine. She displayed many an icy stare in Gone Girl, as I recall. She could play Moiraine quite well.
