So ... Nynaeve can do AoE mass heals straight off the bat?
My goodness, haven't they compressed the story a lot! No Caemlyn? Looks like they rolled most of that section into Tar Valon.
Also, how the fuck can you be surprised by a galloping horse in a fairly sparse forest?
Loial is ... a little short for an Ogier. Surely they could have AT LEAST used the perspective tricks of LOTR? And that hair is ... wtf?
Nynaeve getting pointed to the gardens by Lliandrin and then shows up with Loial at Rand's door? No meeting the Ogier scene?

I must be getting invested in it if I'm getting so picky on "minor" things.

Seems to be improving - mostly - episode by episode.

Did like ep5. Was going to watch with my son, 10 years old, but now I'm a bit glad that he didn't want to, just before I started. Those scenes with Perrin captured were a bit too much for his age, I think.

Loved ep 4 even more, but on the whole, I'm very glad with a new fantasy series as good as this.

I have experienced the suicide of someone I knew, and the whole build up and inevitable ending with Stepin, and his dealings with Lan and Nynaeve through the episode, were spot on and evoked a whole lot of stuff I remember. The way he seems to be doing better and thinking about accepting Alanna's offer right before he kills himself, the way he makes it quite clear to Nynaeve he doesn't want to use the tea to sleep himself. Their conversation about grief felt very real and poignant too. Brilliant actor for the part.

Eamon Valda is shooting up my most hated fantasy villain ladder at an incredible rate. I don't enjoy watching when he's involved, but I am loving the show decision to turn him up to 11 in terms of threat level.

Padan Fain being in Tar Valon twice. I didn't catch it until the second watch - very nicely done!

Read something suggesting that the funeral scene at the end of the episode and Lan's part of it borrows from a Korean funereal tradition where someone is nominated chief mourner and there are days of mourning where the "ritual wailing" happens each morning. The looks passing between Lan and Moiraine were so beautifully acted by Daniel Henney and Rosamund Pike.

Barney Harris - I'm so sad he won't be Mat after this series. He's killing it.

The whole thing is High School Drama (the Eamon-Fielders) meeting America's Next Topmodel (the Aes Sedai). I never got past book 2, but from what I've read about the series (Tor.com reread and such) it doesn't really get any more adult - I mean the behaviour, not the sex.

Re: Rand, I'm not finding the show version of him whiny at all. In fact, he's among the most easy going characters in the whole thing so far. Waaaaaaay scaled back from the books. Mat remains the biggest wiener in the books and the show, but the show version is still a lot better, and I agree the actor is nailing it.

padan fain is the peddlar from episode 1 who took stolen goods off Matt in exchange for a lantern, he plays a significant role in the books and has appeared in the background in several scenes across the season, I spotted him briefly in Shadar logoth and tar valon, don't know if anyone else saw him in the other episodes

On Padan Fain

You can hear him whistle in Shadar Logoth but I don't think he appears on screen (I only caught it second time round)

In Tar Valon he's there twice - I think as the boys head to the Inn, and then he's sitting on a bench during the parade laughing to himself before leaving the scene.

Not sure if he's popped up elsewhere, apparently the tell is usually the whistling.

We've watched up to ep4. My wife is enjoying it and given I can hardly ever get her to watch anything narrative with me that's a good sign.

Ive enjoyed it so far, think the changes they made so far have all been for the narrative. Really enjoying it - I think they've been doing a good job.
