I, Chairman Vannov am currently indisposed as I am traveling to Rigel segundus for ritual succession by combat with the war-addled brute Chancellor Wennek.
I expect to be back in the office as soon as I have crushed the last fragment of his idiotic skull into the arena floor, however long that takes.

Oh, you should've said something! Hmm, I guess I don't *need* Beta Aquilae, if you're going to go there and harass Gnaw instead of me. But it would be nice if I could have it for a few turns.
I'm willing to negotiate some terms.

you know when i looked over the board and map abd realised i needed to fight that ancient to get anywhere this game I thought i was screwed.
Then i thought I would be able to grab the research development early if i pass early enough and flip some ships. Thatd enable me yo get the tech to kill the ancient.
no one else was in a position to grab the science development before me until Khell grabbed the trade fleet one.
so i humbly ask for my Magellan cousin to leave me the development and in return ill keep his enemies busy.
This was predicted and it makes sense early on for you. I am going to say it once though. Be prepared for a full game of battles if you come for me. If it goes the way I'm predicting you will not want to face me come round 3.
If I ally with you, do I still have to fight ancients? The reason I ask is that an alliance with you would only help me if I could use it to move my troops around the map more easily, but if I still have to fight the ancients, I'd basically HAVE to go through Khell to get anywhere else in the galaxy.
Yes allies would have to fight the ancients but as D'rek owns the hex you wouldn't gain the discovery tiles under them.

Could work... or might not at all.
Or CF comes on board and we powerhouse attack in all directions, you against Khell, CF southwards and me either northeast, against the GC or against Tapper.
Again, could work... or might fail miserably

You are being nice. And apparently I really suck at the whole roleplaying thing. I thought I was being clear as well. I'm open to options that doesn't include me taking that hex but I looked and looked at my options and I just don't have all that many choices. I have to go out of my way and take a risk in attacking that hex as it is for a chance to gain some flexibility for the upcoming rounds. I could try and gobble up the three discovery tiles in the hopes that it gives me something I can use to help position myself better but that is a gamble on random chance. This way I can gain a very useful hex and gain diplomacy with another player and still not completely burn any bridges in the process. I think Gnaw isn't thrilled about either option of me taking discovery tiles or that hex but with him getting some quality hexes its not like I'm seriously hurting his growth potential.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Alright. Well I've still got a move action to do because I want to move my other interceptor, seems a shame not to do something useful with the Pollux one. How many interceptors do you need to move to Aquilae? If I can delay my move after yours are past I can just grab one of the nebula discoveries but not influence Aquilae. Gives me a good tiny bit of insurance later on, too, against ships in Aquilae suddenly coming around that corner at me (having Aquilae as a bit of a buffer against my middle sectors was part of why I wanted it in the first place, after all).

I'm moving at least three into that hex. I am using the forth to grab a nebula discovery tile. I'm trying to hedge my bets a bit here and if I don't get at least 2 of the nebula discovery tiles I'll be highly disappointed. So it sounds like I will have to move my fourth interceptor next to Pollux to prevent you from sniping that one. Not what I was wanting to do but sounds like it's a must now.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Hey, it's not my fault you placed the nebulas all weird with a discovery right next to me. And when you choose to go two rounds without jumping on the discoveries quickly, why would you be upset by others going for them? If you wanted them so bad you probably could have had all 4 by acting quicker. But you made a choice not to.

Either way, Twelve, you probably aren't going to get 2 discoveries, definitely not 3. Block me and Gnaw will move his interceptor again to grab another.
...then again you've spent all your materials and as you noted earlier this maneuver is going to tax you something fierce. He has neutron bombs, maybe he just waits for your moves to be done and sends that interceptor to your homeworld

Trees and mythology
The Forest Conclave is unruly. Junipers and Mountain Ash clamor for ships to be built and the Vashta Nerada to be readied, the Figs and Hazel counsel patience, and a single Willow sheds tears for the death of the Androzani. The eldest Oak shakes her limbs and silences them all with her advice to let the evil ones fight amongst themselves and remind the Conclave that many a Forest has risen above the bones of dead civilizations.
The Overmind decides that patience will win the day.

This is an interesting position. I border (or almost border) on so many people, and I have the potential to accrue so much income and resources, but with each disc put down or used as an action costing so much it would take me until round 4 or 5 to actually influence and colonize all the spaces I want... and that's with only spending research on Advanced things but not military research. Naturally, no one is going to leave me alone that long. So do I try and scrap together resources and tech to resist, slowing my production gains? Or do I just try and colonize/influence as much as possible and let the systems that get attacked be destroyed? I guess there's a third option of trying to schmooz into an alliance so I don't face so many threats on all sides, too. Hmmmmm.
I'm on the fence right now about whether or not I want to suggest an alliance with you.
I figure if I've got your Ancient Highway protecting one side of my galaxies, I could flood through Khell's backdoor and potentially remove him as one of the thorns in your side. You'd still have a bunch of others to worry about, but I could still be a useful alliance member to have.
But then, there's the general rule of 'stomp D'rek and Twelve' which I should keep in mind. Hmmmmmmmmmm.....
If I don't ally with you, and don't go after Khell, I think I'm eventually going to want/need one or two of the hexes to the south of me that you currently have influenced.
Yeah, I've certainly been thinking about the same. Depends a lot on if/who we could get as a third member of the alliance, too. If it were Khell we could use the warp portal for our own good and I could probably concentrate on holding off Twelve and Gnaw while you two pincer southward and westward.

I think people will be more careful entering a full alliance this time due to what's happened the last few games.
Drek back stabbing Khell and Tapper would leave a sour taste for them.
CF destroying Morgoths chance of winning.
Me handicapping IH.

we didn't make a decision about alliances, but since 9 player isn't really balanced without them I guess we'll have them. Off-thread communication between alliance members is allowed as that slowed things up massively last time.
I'd be ok houseruling not allowing them to form until turn 4 or something, but I think people are a lot more reluctant to enter into alliances after last game.
Especially with d'rek the dirty traitor
