I don't know if this is true, but if it is it is absolutely falling.
If you're an individual who had *any* capital gains you cannot currently file your tax return. Add to that many self employed individuals can't get their returns filed till May this is ridiculous.

Meh, it seems fine to me since it's for nothing. The Carbon Tax Rebate is paid in advance quarterly. So we effectively get a free cheque in April with no carbon tax payments for it to offset, and our last cheque was for Jan-March 2025.
I fail to see how waiting till your assessment to get it if you file your taxes after Apr 2nd is a huge problem.

Carney is calling an election likely Sunday, which means we vote either April 28th or May 5th. We're about to see one of the most contentious elections in history here I think....I'm taking nothing for granted, polls be damned, go VOTE.
My anxiety is going to be in overdrive for the next month, don't mind me.

I think even Jagmeet MUST know he's toast after this election. Like there's no universe in which the FedNDP lost what? 3 elections in a row where he remains their leader. They are out of steam as a party. I expect a they will knife him out of the spot (likely on the threat of a non-confidence vote/leadership review like Mulcair faced. Fresh blood across the board is needed for the NDP to survive as a party and if the Cons and Libs blow out their seats, I could see it folding as a party at the Federal level, and something else will be birthed in its place. Aside from Jagmeet's long teeth, I would also argue that the NDP attacking a freshly-rebooted Liberal Party (Should they win) would be fucking disastrous for them as a party during a trade war/crisis...so what would they do? Nothing.
I'll be interested to see policy/platforms...as I think Carney's new Liberal one will align with a lot of Con complaints (Immigration laxening being the chief one) and defang PP even more, and quite frankly I'd love to see what PP's Cons offer up....because I don't even know what a Conservative platform that could rival the Liberals would even look like after so many years of PP's anti-Trudeau biting and Verb the Noun sloganeering.
Also it's going to be vicious...PP has never faced a scrutiny of his life, 20 years on our tax dime with nothing to show for it, in a campaign setting. Every little thing he's ever done or not done is going to be drudged up.
Oh, and the Right Wing Bot Farm has already gone after Carney's daughter, who is Trans...so...yeah...it's going to be ugly and PP's side is going to be fighting like a rabid dog with its back up against the wall as they know their chances dropped CONSIDERABLY with Carney VS Trudeau...

The obvious approach for PP & co, almost the default, is full nasty. Slander, name calling, 'lies', mobilize the hell out of the angry Rightest of Right. Of course, the Right is flailing wildly now that Trump just smacked PP's credibility so hard they felt it in Ft McMurray, Alberta, so the value in that is less than it could be. Ont the other hand if they go all morally upstanding and reasonable, Carney was already there and is more credible at it and the undecideds aren't going to buy a Tory shift to the middle.
NDP... yeah it's not looking good for them. W the US threat they're going to lose a lot of support to the Liberals, and Singh... i cannot think of anything he could do to save his leadership at this point.

Also PP is forbidding the news media on the campaign trail? Yeah, the first thing you should do in an open and honest election campaign as someone running to be the leader of the country is.....checks notes....block the media from access to you...
I mean I should not be surprised, this man cannot answer questions, sets up his own pressers where he dictates press attendance, and is known to be smarmy as shit even to the interviews he AGREES to.
I'm sure this will engender him to the populace and not make him look fascist at all...

This election with Carney as Liberal leader will absolutely BLEED the fence sitter NDP supporters like myself who usually vote around policy and skillsets (I voted NDP in the last two elections federally cause I was mad JT went against his election reform promise) and don't just "Team sports" their vote...I DO think Jagmeet will need to be forced out though...he's not going to go quietly and a leadership review will be much more likely than him stepping down.
EDIT: He's already attacking Carney for the same shit the Cons are, not disclosing his assets, even though he put everything in a blind trust. NOW IS NOT THE TIME JAGMEET....fucks sake this guy can't get out of his own way.

And now insiders report that PP called Ford for help and Ford told him to kick rocks. LMAO....there's no universe where it makes any sense for Ford (who just got back in for four more years) would need or want to help PP's populist Trump Brigade gain power.

not to mention Ford is probably gunning for PP's job a couple of years from now. This bit from the Star article kills me:
"But the federal Tories were stung when, the morning after the call with Poilievre, the premier was having coffee at his home with Liberal Transport Minister Chrystia Freeland. Freeland, who posted selfies with Ford on Instagram, was also a special guest at Wednesday's provincial cabinet swearing-in ceremony at the Royal Ontario Museum."
ETA: also just discovered PP never congratulated Ford when he won the last prov election. the 'reap what ye hath sown' here is just delicious.

So as expected Carney called an election. Good stuff. I'm happy everyone gets a say now as we are in this trade war who we want leading us.
I have a few comments.
1. Jagmeet Singh. Look, it's no secret that I'm more a supporter of the NDP recently than the Liberals though I will ABSOLUTELY shift from one to the other based around policy choices. But when all the leaders got a chance to speak and Jagmeet had the UNMITIGATED GALL to say that he's the only leader not endorsed by Trump...because of Trumps little "I'd rather work with the Liberals" reverse psychology attempt to get PP elected...how dare you Jagmeet spout out MISINFORMATION like that. You know it's always kind of baffled me that the NDP have always targeted the Liberals more than the Cons in their campaign fights...and I mean on paper it's fine...but in reality the Leftist Party Attacking the Centrist party instead of the Rightwing party is SO dumb...like in a perfect world the NDP at the Federal level could have made a play to help the Liberals oust the Cons from relevance, and landed themselves as official Opposition to a Liberal Government...and then from THERE they could have grown their brand into something that could one day become the ones to form govt....but Jagmeet wants to skip that part and wants the brass ring, so he's attacking the party he is closer to politically...allowing the Cons to only really have to fight off the Liberals. Jack Layton is rolling in his grave at what has become of the party he VERY nearly made into something worth watching and admiring...and imagine Olivia Chow having to watch as Jagmeet reduces the gains that the NDP made to ashes for his own hubris and desire for the brass ring. He doesn't want to do the work to step the NDP to get there...he thinks he can win, or replace the Liberals as Opposition if the Cons win...Mark my words, the FedNDP will be invisible after this election. Jagmeet will almost certainly get Mulcair'd out...and he will have only himself to blame.
2. Danielle Smith point blanking PP's already struggling campaign in the head by giving an interview to Breitbart a mere two weeks ago in which she engages in at BEST election interference, and at worst treason....is funny, but it's also sad that the Wild Rose Party plant who currently runs the Alberta Cons is bucking for them joining the US to that level. Now, will the RCMP investigate her? I dunno, she's been doing illegal shit for a long time now and nothing has happened to her. But her coming out and saying that it was fake news WHEN WE CAN HEAR THE INTERVIEW OURSELVES shows you that she truly thinks we are as dumb and uneducated as some of the US Trump voters are. Wild. And PP can't even bring himself to disavow her over it because he KNOWS that her Base is HIS base, so he ends up looking EVEN worse than he already did and even more aligned with Trump. Like he really said last week that "Trump wants a liberal" and then this week Smith says that PP lines up more with Trump and he cannot bring himself to distance himself from that.
3. PP is 100% riding the line of testing out "Stick to the message no matter what" into the dirt. And the "new slogan" every few days is the picture of a man and a party struggling for a throughline that gets them the votes...his newest one..what is it? "Boots, Not Suits"....once agains attempting to appeal to rural voters who would have voted for him anyways by copying as a working class guy (meanwhile he's been a be-suited, be-spectacled politics nerd for 20 years) and failing....At least Ford has the weird ass street cred (no idea why, he comes from wealth too) to maintain that "I'm for the working class" shtick and make it work for him. Shit like Ford Fest and his folksy persona go a long way to sell it. PP doesn't have that. He looks like he's LARPing when he puts on a plaid shirt and boots.

It's all he can do so he's going to do it despite the risk to the country. He cannot gain any votes from the Right, so it's center and left from every scrap because if he can hack out enough for the libs to get a minority and 'need' him, he may stay relevant a little longer. I agree w you, at a minimum this will decimate the NDP.

I love Alberta, but post fossil fuel implosion a massive chunk of Albertans are in a confused state of denial about their place in Canada and the universe and are willing to grab on to anyone who tells them the good times are coming back just pay no attention as well sell out to private US health care and DOnald Trump and oh hi Putin what can we do yah for?

It's all he has unless they stumble on something w better traction. As long as Carney manages not to screw up and hand them something to work with, PP will see his lead keep shrinking til its anyone's game.

Ford sells 'i'm just a regular shmuck who drinks beer and does a little meth and hangs out with his millionaire buddies and sometimes passes large duffle bags of small bills out at parties' very well and his constituency includes a large number of people who do one or more of those things so it works. Maybe it's just carry-over from Rob, but you can picture him slightly younger and skinnier throwing down in an alley fight.
The closest PP ever came to any of that was probably lobbyist parties in his staffer days, and it shows. Strictly rumour mill, but it will be interesting to see how close the race for his Ottawa seat runs.

100%. He can put his money where his large confrontational mouth is. And that's very much why the Ontario PC's vote for him, he's their junkyard dog.

And Carney is running for Nepean (which makes sense as a spot to parachute him into that's safe), which is RIGHT NEXTDOOR to Pollievre's riding. LOL
But yeah, I agree. PP's attempts at cosplaying things he's not never work. No working class people actually believe he's one of them...he's Steve Buscemi in that one role...."Hello Fellow Teens. What is the happenings?"

NDP is going to have to crash and burn this time. And hopefully go back to the drawing board and come back as a party that's looking at big, systemic upcoming challenges for the working class- like automation putting hundreds of thousands out of work, and the aging population landing us in multiple crises simultaneously.

100%. They are going to be rebuild the party from Layton's time if they want to have a voice in Federal politics. Hopefully with former punk rocker Charlie Angus in charge.
Hell., it sounds like BC is going to go Red from NDP as well.
I once thought the NDP was fine and that Jagmeet was doing good things...but man his personal ambition has driven the party into the ground.

The NDP under Singh seem, to me, to have an unfortunate tendency to criticize and lament and insist that they can correct well know social issues - opiods, housing, health care - but fall apart when it comes to explaining just how they might pay for the corrections, or if not quite fall apart, can't seem to get beyond 'tax lots of people who make money', which will always cost them votes right left and across the center. The last few years have been too fiscally fraught for that to fly even with people who are inclined to absorb a bigger tax burden to help those who need it. There's clearly a place for them in Canadian politics, the Libs would have been toast five years ago without them, but if they want to be something bigger than a default tie-breaker i suspect that they're going to have to be a whole lot more concrete.

Pollievre was asked again about Danielle Smith's treasonous US interference shit....and....
Speaking to reporters in Brampton, Ont., Monday, Poilievre was asked if Smith’s recent comments to U.S. right-wing network Breitbart were “appropriate.”
“People are free to make their own comments. I speak for myself,” Poilievre said before launching into an attack on the Liberals under Mark Carney.
Jeezus, this is the second time in as many days that he was asked and somehow this response is even worse than the first. He needs to denounce Smith's comments entirely if the CPC hopes to move past them. But again, he cannot do that as he will alienate people who will undoubtably vote for him...
Funnily enough, even if he cuts her loose now and reprimands her, we've had a few weeks of him literally NOT defending Canada on the level of Carney...hell Ford outshined him on the subject and still is...so the CPC will still sink in the polls from his lack of ability to reject the 51st state shit (and I mean even doing it now would look like he's pandering and doesn't really think that), but he MIGHT be able to make something of his first two weeks of campaigning if he disowned her...this is clearly absolutely going to follow him around for weeks (the media is not letting it drop) and it's not like the election is in 3 months or something farther off...it's in 33 damned days.

Yeah you'd think something like this would be an easy win for him "this is bang out of order! We must think of the sovereignty of Canada and we are not a plaything for the US!" It would score so many points for him but that's just dithering.

Yep. And frankly even with his base being who they are I expected it..because the reasons to do it and disavow her DO seem to outweigh the reasons not to...but the Maple Maga (as we call them) crowd idolize Trump as much as the States ones do, so he's terrified of saying something wrong that will alienate them and for some reason those voters are the ones he thinks he needs to hang onto...I dunno why.
And he's not even felt the brunt of the CSIS (our CIA) report that just dropped about how India interfered in the Conservative Leadership selection process to help PP win leadership (because Modi hated Trudeau apparently)...whether or not PP knew that was happening (he refuses to get security clearance) it's still a TERRIBLE thing to drop when you're in election campaign mode that maybe you didn't deserve your spot as leader and that a foreign adversary helped you get it. Bombastic.
