I'm not a big fan of house rules, but I'll play no matter if there's room.

Count me in. (This is the next slow forum game right?) Try and keep me out.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Tatts/SS/IH/Khell, for the quick-game-on-an-afternoon-evening idea, what's your availability like for the next half a dozen Saturdays and Sundays?

Orange means I possibly can but depends if I am away in Leeds with the wife or away camping respectively. Red is no, her birthday and away in Sheffield. Green is a yes.

Looks good, I especially like the closed race selection and a different player choosing the order of rotation round 1.
It's the choose "play first, pick race first, or "pick rotation" that's closed. I was intending that the actual race selection would be open forum. I want those initial choices to be closed because of alliances. That way there is no lobbying. I don't have a problem with the lobbying per se, but lobbying the "play first" and "race first" is not fair given the differences in our time zones and posting times. But the actual choosing of the races should be open.

There's room. And which ones don't you like? I'm actually trying to stay as rule free as possible. The current game is my first experience with Eclipse and my first with playing this type of game in a forum. I *think* the only things I'm doing differently from CF and is outside the official rules is the initial choices. Predictive technology is an official variant, I'm just cutting it in half.
The combat rerolls is going to be different because of D'rek's Orokos site. Mistakes happen. That's just a part of being human. The Orokos site allows the impact of the mistakes to be minimized imo. I mistakenly turned GP's animat cannon into an ion cannon. But it was a simple thing to go back to the roll, adjust the damage, and save Tatts an interceptor. (Which is going to get destroyed by D'rek's starbases this turn.)
I seriously over thought the tech draw. That won't happen again. I talked probability and random numbers over with Silencer and he suggestes a much simpler way of doing it and where/why I made the error. (I started to explain it but realized that it's much easier to show.)
Tossing a couple of ancient homeworlds into the III ring is an idea to combat my own tactic. I didn't plan on using the Explore action as a weapon, but it turned out that it's a pretty good one. With a finite number of Explores available taking multiple explore actions is actively denying resources to other players. Running into one of those homeworlds should slam the brakes on rather abruptly. But if y'all think it's a bad idea, it's out.

Yeah, it's the slow game.

Yeah the chat game isn't going to work for me anytime soon, but I'll be in for the next slow game.

I think if you're going to use 2xPulsar, 2xSupernova and multiple Ancient Homeworlds, you should add 2-3 more Tier 3 hexes. Otherwise Tier 3 might get insanely specialized and leave some people totally walled in with almost no resources and nowhere they can expand to.

Of the dates which Tatts marked green Sep 7/8 and Sep 14/15 would probably work best for me.

I'm fine with that.

@ Gnaw - I'm fine with that, and whichever rules you chose to go for. I simply have bad experiences with house rules and so I'm sceptical to all things

I found my randomness for the tech draw was just fine and very quick.
repeat until all draws are done.
It rarely took more than 5 minutes to do a tech draw except for the first one.
For the combat, I agree the dice roller makes sense. I just didn't want to get into linking to all the roll logs and taking a large amount of time formatting posts.
I'm still in for game 4.
- Just arrange the tiles in the .svg file in horizontal rows of 10.
- Generate a random number equal to the total no. of tiles
- remove the tile with that index, counting book-wise left to right, top to bottom.
- Replace the removed tile with the one from the end of the list.
repeat until all draws are done.

Just had a thought.
What about a totally silent (or near totally silent) game.
Only posts related directly to the game are allowed, and communications between players are restricted to diplomacy or alliance requests. All communication between allies happens via PM. No side-thread for banter.
It might make for an interesting game. Sorry if this has been brought up...I didn't read the entire thread in detail.

Well when I beat you all for a third time in a row how am I going to rub it in? Though with Karma being what it is I'll probably be very happy it's a silent thread so you all can't rub it in my face when I get eliminated.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Wait, no posting arguments, complaints or just talking trash? What's the fun in that?

I was thinking it might make the game go a bit faster actually, but you're right. The banter is fun.
More fun to have a "roleplaying required" game actually. I tried in the last game and gave it up by round 4, but it would have been fun to keep it going if everyone was into it.

I tried to hold onto the Planta persona for as long as I was able, I don't know what happened to the whole space genghis thing. I must have forgotten about it somewhere.
Thing is, though Eclipse is a fantastic boardgame, the fluff is terribly underdeveloped. Sure, I'm all for roleplay, but we'd pretty much have to invent the entire basis ourselves. Which I'm not against, mind you.
