In regards to Rake vs Traveller? Hmm, I'm not sure. Without Vengance I'm confideint Rake would win fairly easily, but with Vengance in the hands of someone as driven as Traveller it'd be a coin flip.

1: Traveller attacks Rake to win so that he kills the guy who killed Hood out of thwarted vengence. But Rake said Hood was close and that he was blocking the way. Therefore Hood still alive, but hang on, Hoods body is right there too? This explanation fails any sense.
2: Traveller attacks Rake to win so that he can get to Hood, thinking that he is still alive. But again, even if Hood's body was moved, why did Traveller collapse and start sobbing after "winning" the fight. Should he not have started looking for Hood? This explanation does not add up.
3: Traveller attcks Rake in order to LOSE so that he can get inside Dragnipur and maybe strangle Hood's soul with the Dragnipur chains. Thats a silly explanation but not one that fails any logic test.
Never mind the ho'd win aspect, the possible explanation for why Traveller would attack Rake is not at all apparant to me. Especially considering that Erikson never addresses the fact that Hood's headless body should still be LYING RIGHT IN FRONT OF RAKE when Traveller arrives. Erikson made a big deal of Hood and Rake been almost mirror images kneeling down in the street, so where the hell did the body go? Well?
Well Traveller had been trying for freaking long time to get at Hood, he finaly arrives to see his victory stolen from him. Cue rage, he turns this rage on the man who cheated him of his victory.
Rake saying Hood was close? Well Hood's in side the sword he's holding.
For Rake not standing aside, well he needed to have himself killed and wanted to goad Traveller into killing him.
For Traveller freaking out after killing Rake and not looking for Hood? I assume by this point his rage abates, he relizes Hood is inside Dragnipur (as opposed to arround the corner) and knows he can't get at him. Also he just relized he killed Rake who is more or less a paragon of virtue and is upset about his own actions.
If this makes no since it's because I had no time to edit.
Wide eyed stupid.
