I browsed the Hubble website for a different image to use for the board background. That picture of the horsehead nebula is waaaaayyy over exposed imo. I found a stunning image of the Eagle Nebula.
Is 699mb too big for the board updates?
Edit: It's only 15200 x 22620 pixels at 600 ppi.

Wow. Any plans for NASA to develop a Smartphone? With a 600ppi display!!
I tried zooming in with Illustrator. (I don't have Photoshop.) Illustrator's max zoom is 6400%. 20 minutes in I got an error message.

Interesting choice.

Note that when you put an image in Inkscape and export the .png file, it will be reduced to whatever dpi you specify and file size will scale with canvas area. So even a 700Mb file will be reduced to something on the order of 5mb if you were to use it in the game file.
The eagle nebula looks awesome - I would def use it. Resize it in GIMP or somesuch first so that you don't crash Inkscape and then import it. I think with the game piece images the file is somewhere around 250Mb already - so you wouldn't want much more than a 5-10Mb file when you try to import it.
My main consideration with the "overexposed" horsehead nebula pic was contrast with the game tiles. They're all quite dark and the edges get lost unless there's something considerably lighter behind them.

Well, I figured that I'd rather not try to operate as some small time king-maker. I'd rather aim to acquire as many points as I am able, which in this case means ignoring Rigel. Sure, I might survive attacking Rigel, but most likely I wont.

Then if that is your goal then you still made the wrong choice. You should have flew into the hive hex instead. That is worth 2 points as well but your Dread has a much better shot at clearing the population there. Your interceptor can't do it without antimatter cannons. Then build an interceptor move and upgrade to take that hex just north of the GC. That is an additional 4 points for you.
But you still might play king maker still just in D'rek's favor if you do the above.
Edit:
If you upgrade your dread with two positron computers that is. But I didn't check to see if you had enough money to pull all of the above actions off or not.

If your player board is right you have current production of 4 cash and 7 in the bank. And between Beta Leonis and Lamba Fornacis you can population an additional 2 money moving your production up to 8. So you should work with the premise that you have 15 cash.
To take both of those hexes you need 2 moves 2 upgrades and a build. Before your provisional your board shows you at -2 upkeep. Add 5 actions and that moves your upkeep to -13. You still have 2 cash left over.
So Move your Dread to Lamba Fornacis. Build an interceptor in Formalhaut, Move that interceptor into Beta Leonis, upgrade your Dread with 2 positron computers, Upgrade your interceptor with a positron computer and a plasma cannon.
Your odds of taking both hexes are slightly less have 50% but since this is the last round there is no point in playing is safe and might as well roll the dice. Personally I hope you don't take either hex as that helps D'rek more than it helps me but if your goal is to try and maximize your points for this game I'd do what I laid out above.

212 and 103 both provide 2 points. 103 only require me to destroy 2 population cubes, whereas 212 requires the destruction of 3.
The build, upgrades and moves I would require to take both 212 and 103 leaves me at - 21 with +8 and 1 in the bank. If I manage to take both systems that is. I can bankrupt both of my current systems which would leave me at - 13.

Round 9
Turn 1:
Turn 1:
- Morgoth: Research - Positron Computers, trading in Three materials for 1 science.
- Change in VP: +1
- Morgoth: move - Dreadnaught to the abandoned system 202, Formaldaux
- Morgoth: influence to place a disc in 202
- Change in VP: +1
- Morgoth:
Okay per the above you have spent 4 disks. At the start of the round you had one disk on the board yet you have the advanced robotics so you started with all your influence disks on your track.
4 spent disks would put you at -2.
Proposed.....Damn I forgot to count the additional disks to settle a hex thus pushing the upkeep to -21 like you said. Doh!!!
Not my brightest moment.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Gawd, I suck at saying things without sounding like a dick don't I?
First, I'm sorry if I offended you with the "overexposed" comment. I didn't intend it to be critical. Hell, I didn't even have the right name - iIt's Carina Nebula not the Horsehead Nebula.
The image I use for the background won't be a max resolution Tiff anyways. And 600 ppi? That's just nuts in the first place when the best monitors I'm aware of don't go above 110 ppi and most are in the 85-95 range.
spoiled because it's computer geekery.

@ Tatts It's been awhile since you made that provisional. Done any rethinking on it? And, if you're SH spoilered could you be so kind as to give Khell a gentle reminder that he's holding us up.

@all During R8 cleanup, I put both of Tatts grey planet cubes from the graveyard onto the Science track as he asked. It occurred to me last night that I might have screwed that up. Can the 2 box have a cube placed on it?
