How the devil are you Khell? Got anything good planned for the weekend?

By jingo, I am fine Tatts! Well, I have a huge amount of work to do up to the end of June - writing an article - and unfortunately my computer decided to delete one of my very important files! That was...depressing. So unfortunately, my plans this weekend and up until 1st July involve 15-hour work days and not much else (though I am going to Wimbledon next week). But from July, two months (yes, MONTHS), of holiday! Whoop!

How about yourself? By the way, do you mind that I still call you Tatts? I'm finding it very difficult to switch to this GP malarkey.

He'll always be Tatts to me. I refuse to call him GP.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

It's in our price range. We would work our way up, to the nicer area of where we live ie...

http://www.rightmove...y-39749288.html

This may look similar but it is in a better area and has a bit more space.

The joys of house hunting.

I have fond memories of Tattersail and have no problems with that being my nickname :p

What do you work as? Journalist? Who do you work for? Say that in an Austin Powers voice!

Good. I'm used to you S "Tatts".
Go look at that 3 minute bit by Dave Allen that I linked earlier. That's Khell. :p

I watched that, very funny :p

I grew up watching PBS as much as possible. Monty, Dave Allen, Benny Hill, some Dr. Who though not enough to get addicted to it. Sunday night was German soccer. The Day the Universe Changed. My very devout parents should never have let me see that.

Cute little place. Liked the kitchen the best and the carpet in the rest of the house needs serious updating. And the lack of a lawn is in some serious contrast to what I have to deal with. Try 3 acres of lawn I have to mow.

Americans and their crazy wide open spaces. The average size of houses in the US (and cars!) is in a different league to what you and I deal with, Tatts. The little islanders that we are.

You've got me beat. 2.5 acres. Though a zero turn mower makes it easy.

In fact you are right Khell, they don't even have "real" grass. It's fake and it itches. It isn't soft and "rollaroundable" like it is here.

Is it not possible for you to apply for a job elsewhere in the country, I wouldn't touch London with a barge pole!

For all my (entirely justified) complaining, I love London. I did apply for jobs elsewhere, and also in Europe, but I won a funded fellowship to do a project I proposed at the uni of my choice, and the one with the most appropriate academic support happened to be in London. And, as I said, I do love London - always something new to do, and impossible to completely explore.

The plan is to one day move to a lucrative gig at an American uni - 3 acre lawn here I come! :p

The part in the rectangle in the top is my lot. The whole picture is what I have to mow as that is my in-law's place and they are always are gone to Alaska in the summers.

Edit: Clearly I don't have to mow the farmed portion of the map but everything else that is grass is up for grabs. Later in the summer it isn't so bad as the grass doens't get watered outside the fenced yard so it cuts down on what I have to cut but during the spring it's a chore.

Mine is just an estimate. I don't know for sure how much I actually have to mow. And yes I broke down and got a zero turn mower last fall when the riding one went belly up. The cost was a bitch but the amount of time it saved was worth it.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

The zero turn (Bad Boy brand. Really that's their name.) almost makes mowing not a pita. 10 mph doesn't sound fast, but on the longer stretches it's nice.
EditYou're right about the cost. Besides the time and fuel savings, it also is going to outlast a riding mower. This thing is built with 1/4" steel. Half inch tubing on the frame. There's no doubt it'll last a very long time.

Sigh. As a comparison, this is the sort of thing that I can probably look forward to for the next couple of years.

My in-laws currently purchased a pool and promptly left so I have install it myself but for the most part the yard is dotted with fruit trees. We have some 10 apple trees, 3 cherry, 4 plum, 4 pear, 2 filbert, 1 walnut with a few cedar a douglas fir and pine thrown in for good measure. Oh there is a dogwood and birch in my in-laws front yard too. A few lilachs, a rose garden, honeysuckle, jasmine, wisteria(sp?). Oh the grapes, How could I forget about the 5 rows of grapes. My father in law experiments with home wine making. And experimenting is the appropriate term. His best is barely drinkable so far. Oh and my rasberry and blueberry row. It's almost July so those are just about ready to eat. Yummy!!!!
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.
