Hopefully SS made it back from his sojourn in the woods soon!
I have no idea what to do...being last in a 9p game makes me pretty reactionary in anything i do.
I guess the best thing to do as RIS is to go after the ancients since winning battles is a good source of income for me. I wonder what the chances of taking out 2 ancients are with a cruiser and 2 interceptors.
EDIT:
Muahaha....now I have a plan.
I really don't like the sound of that......
Research the plasma cannons and then upgrade your blueprints with the cannons and computers. All of your ships will fire first so there is a very good chance you would take out one ancient before they even have a chance to fire. Though the odds that you lose one interceptor is fairly good, scratch that, I forgot you had built in gauss shields. I'd say your odds of losing an intercepor as probably 35%. If you hadn't spent your science on the advanced robotics you could have waited until next round and got the plasma missles, especially if you influence Kappa Scorpii and settle the science planet. Think how bad ass you would have been then.
Eh. So Twelve, what would you do if you were me?
It depends on what you think about doing long term. You have mostly cut yourself off from the middle and the only way to the middle would be through Tatts. Being the aggressor against Tatts would land you the traitor card and -2 points but grabbing it early probably isn't too bad as CF will probably attack me at some point and take it away from you.
You could make a play for Vega instead and if you are thinking doing that I would probably grab the plasma cannons but I'm fairly sure that Tatts is thinking about going for that hex this round too and with him grabbing the positron computers I would say he has the military advantage right now.
Other than that I would think about strengthening my economy. To do that you need hexes that aren't worthless like most of the ones you uncovered so far. I would probably spend most of this round exploring tier III. A little less than half of the tiles left have at least 2 population slots available to colonize (if you research the appropriate advanced tech that is) but a slight majority of the hexes are 1 or zero planet hexes. On the plus side those are the discovery tile hexes that can give you some good ship parts or resources to help temporarily strengthen your standing.
Right now you have a good material production and most of tier III have more of the same. A good strategy for you this game could be building up your material production to build orbitals to help with your science and money situation and then start hording the materials to build a boat load of monliths in round 9 all the while research tech, tech, tech. You could be the quiet loner that everyone is ignoring and end up winning because of that. These are just suggestions. If I were you I would probably go the explore route. Tatts will have to keep an eye on D'rek and Morgoth so if you commit to a defensive pacifist strategy (Key on defenses. Don't leave yourself open for a sneak attack and upgrade your starbases) this could carry you far this game.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.
