No worries. Tatts still needs to be lead around by the hand and he already has a whole game under his belt already.

Hi Tatts :apt:
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

So does CF update the board so we can keep track of the cubes?

Also Solid, you do know that now you have selected a population cube to discard it's now time for you to take your first action right? Have you had a chance to read over the rules and know what kinds of actions are available for you to take?
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

He does do periodic updates but I keep track of my own board in excel just so I have an idea of where I'm at with my resources. We'll be around to keep an eye on your board as well to make sure it's updated correctly if you need help.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Yeah I know it's my action turn.
Do I have to research before I build?

Well while Solid is figuring things out I might as well put in my provisional.

Explore SW of homeworld 222 Epsilon Eridani

Once I know what it is I'll fill in the detail as to what I want done with it.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Depends on what you want to build - starbases, orbitals and monoliths need to be researched before you can build them, but interceptors cruisers and dreadnaughts can always be built.

But generally, you want to do a lot of exploring at first, hint hint

The only thing that you need to research before you build are starbases. And there are some races that start with Starbase tech too though your race isn't one of them. If you want to build any of the other ship types you can as long as you have enough materials to afford them.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

No, but you need enough materials to be able to build with. It says on your player board how many materials each ship type requires.

Except for starbases blah blah what they said above blah blah.

Yeah sorry. I forgot about orbitals and Monoliths though in the two games that I've seen played I have yet to see anyone even research the monolith tech let alone build one. But D'rek is probably right that you want to probably explore. Especially since D'rek is your neighbor and you want her to have to work very hard to reach your territory with her incredibley awesome ship blueprints she has.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

Or alternatively explore to me and propose diplomatic relations.

Or both.

Or neither.

Or whatever.

Ok then thanks folks.
I have a bit of a problem, I can't read the text on the board as I'm a PC down and so playing on my phone. Hopefully I'll sort it this week. But until then, I imagine all the research able technologies will be in the rules aye? Are there any restrictions on which ones I can choose?
Though I think I will explore north.

Only certain technologies are available to research at any given time. There's a Supply Board that CF has put at the top left of the boards in his big super-image. Every round, some technology tiles are randomly drawn and put on the Supply Board. You can only research what is on the Supply Board, and when you do you take the tile from it and move it to your own board.

So depending on what tech tiles are randomly drawn from the bag each round, at some point you could have 6 different Starbase tech tiles available to researched, or there might be none that have been drawn yet!

There are two restrictions, okay three. The first is you can't buy a tech you already have, second you have to have enough science saved up to buy the tech and third the tech has to be first drawn (this is done once a round) and unpurchased by anyone else by the time it's your turn to take an action. Also as you purchase more and more tech on a reasearch line other tech on the same line get cheaper. I'm not sure if you are familiar with that or not. Each tech has two numbers the first is the maximum cost and the second is the minimum cost. On your player board on the three tech lines you can see negative numbers. Those numbers are the discounts you get for purchasing additional techs on that line but you can't go below the minimum cost.
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.

You only have a little bit of research and you may not be able to afford any yet. Khell is able to research two at a time but everyone else only once. Exploring is best for you right now.

And I should let D'rek explain things as she is much more clear and concise in contrast to my ramblings.
