In a sense, you've been waiting your whole life.

You are thinking of Beak the magical Savant.

And as for Draconus, no he never came anywhere near tavores camp in TCG as far as we know. I was just reacting to the notion that Tavore would ever be any kind of opposition or trouble to a being like Draconus. When a physical manifestation of power can just step out of thin air and turn everything in a ten mile radius into glass, you don't fight, you run or you die.

That was probably the best power scene in the books for me. All the infighting and all sorts from two sides and one big ancient fucking entity turns up and accidentally steps on them.

I would also like a resolution in these books to the throwaway line at the end of the chapter in HOC that names Icarium as a friend of the Liosan and Slayer of the Ten Thousand. Just knowing what race these ten thousand are would shine alot of light onto this.

Well if Erikson does write the Toblakai trilogy (eventually) I'm sure you'll get some sort of explanation.

The Ten Thousand slain are the T'lan Imass that make up the Bone Steps in the plateau where the Teblor live, as far as I'm aware.

Does anyone think (hope) that the later date means he's decided to put in the war against death stuff?

The last synopsis i read had that in there and also made mention of a "blue-skinned" race that arrived to assist in the war on death.

Quote

It is a bitter winter and civil war now ravages Kurald Galain, as Urusander's Legion prepares to march upon the city of Kharkanas. The rebels' only opposition lies scattered, bereft of a leader since Anomander's departure in search of his estranged brother, Andarist. The last brother remaining, Silchas Ruin, rules in Anomander's stead. He seeks to gather the Houseblades of the Highborn Noble families and resurrect the Hust Legion in the southlands, but is fast running out of time.

The officers and leaders of Urusander's Legion, led by Hunn Raal, want the Consort, Draconus, cast aside and Vatha Urusander wedded to Mother Dark, taking his place on a throne at the side of the Living Goddess. But this union will be far more than political, as a sorcerous power has claimed those opposing Mother Dark - given form by the exiled High Priestess Syntara, the Cult of Light rises in answer to Mother Dark and her Children.

Far to the west, an unlikely army has gathered, seeking an enemy without form, in a place none can find, and commanded by a Jaghut driven mad with grief. Hood's call has been heard, and the long-abandoned city of Omtose Phellack is now home to a rabble of new arrivals. From the south have come Dog-Runners and Jheck warriors. From the Western Sea strange ships have grounded upon the harsh shore, with blue-skinned strangers arriving to offer Hood their swords. And from the North, down from mountain fastnesses and isolated valleys, Toblakai arrive, day and night, to pledge themselves to Hood's impossible war. Soon, all will set forth - or not at all - under the banners of the living. Soon, weapons will be drawn, with Death itself the enemy.

Beneath the chaos of such events, and spanning the realm and those countless other realms hidden behind its veil, magic now bleeds into the world. Unconstrained, mysterious and savage, the power that is the lifeblood of the Azathanai, K'rul, runs loose and wild. Following its scent, seeking the places of wounding where the sorcery rushes forth, entities both new and ancient are gathering. And they are eager to feed.

Comprehending the terrible risk of his gift of blood, a weakened, dying K'rul sets out, in the company of a lone guardian, to bring order to this newborn sorcery - alas, his choice of potential allies is suspect. In the name of order, K'rul seeks its greatest avowed enemy.

Theorizing that one could poop within his own lifetime, Doctor Poopet led an elite group of scientists into the desert to develop a top secret project, known as QUANTUM POOP. Pressured to prove his theories or lose funding, Doctor Poopet, prematurely stepped into the Poop Accelerator and vanished. He awoke to find himself in the past, suffering from partial amnesia and facing a mirror image that was not his own. Fortunately, contact with his own bowels was made through brainwave transmissions, with Al the Poop Observer, who appeared in the form of a hologram that only Doctor Poopet could see and hear. Trapped in the past, Doctor Poopet finds himself pooping from life to life, pooping things right, that once went wrong and hoping each time, that his next poop will be the poop home.

Intriguing...

Could be a tattoo thing... isn't there a race who covered themselves in blue woad tatts... Barghast? Someone?

From GotM:

Quote

By the time he arrived behind the Barghast his fine cloak was drenched with sour ale and bitter wine, and sweat cast a shine on his forehead. The Barghast, he saw, had just finished the deal and was setting down the deck in the table's centre, revealing as he did so the endless blue woad tattooing on his bared arm, the spiral patterns marred here and there by white scars.

Quote

He knew something of the clan markings among the Barghast, how each hunter group was identified through their woad tattooing.

This leads to some additional speculation:

If the Barghast are offshoots of the Imass as stated before, are they perhaps tatooing themselves to resemble the proto-Napans? Perhaps the Barghast are descended from the Dog runners that joined Hood's war on death and the blue-skinned strangers, then thousands of years of a lack of blue skinned people to mate with diluted their coloring. Or their admiration of the blue-skinned strangers then evolved into their tattoo custom.

Ahh, such fun.

the singular bright side from a delay is that I will have time to re read all 16 books before FOL comes out. I currently re-reading ASOIAF after reading Joe Abercrombies First Law books, they were good, not Malazan good, but still good. I am enjoying my re-read of ASOIAF thus far as the characters are the first I ever read in a book so they hold extra meaning and joy for me. Can't wait re-read GOTM though, its been almost a year and a half and there is so much I don't remember or didn't understand the first time round!

Also what is Skin Game? Nacht mentioned it
"There is no struggle too vast, no odds too overwhelming, for even should we fail — should we fall — we will know that we have lived." ― Anomander Rake, Son of Darkness

Skin Game is the soon-to-be-released 15th book in Jim Butcher's Dresden series.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

SE really writes mythology well. Even this little blurb is so rich... and I have full faith that he will do it right.

I'm really aching to get this book... but then it will be more years for the next one.

Can you think of another prequel where you get to see all the characters when they were younger...
... but you are totally confused about what's going on and who's who?

Take all you think you knew from MBotF about Draconus, Tiste, "elder Gods", Hood, Gothos, Mother Dark/Father Light, etc.... what percent was actually true? I'd say about 5% for me. That's SE's comment on mythology.

When I first read "blue skinned" I immediately thought of the Stormriders. I think the Napans would be out of place.

Don't underestimate the humans. I think Tavore, Ganoes and Quick Ben would have a good shot of taking out the Suzerain.

I actually think Tavore wouldn't stand a chance, it's not like she is very powerful in fighting, she just has a very strong will and good tactical mind, but what can she do against Draconus?
Her Otataral blade won't work on him, she can't use other magics, now if she has an army of bad asses with her (the Bonehunters) she might make it difficult on him, but 1 on 1, I don't think she stands a chance.

I think Karsa and Icarium stand a good chance of besting Draconus.
Gothos and Hood might give him a hard time too.
Obviously Rake could, as he already did it.
Then we have K'rull, who I give a fair chance against Draconus too being his brother and all.
And ofcourse QB, as he is wicked powerful ;)

these are just my humble opinions anyway, so I wouldn't mind if people disagree.
