Also, did it seem to you guys that the slave/daughter that tried to get away from Floki and wife (Helga) seemed to be scared of Helga, but seemed to be at ease with Floki when returned with her?

I have a feeling this is intentional. Helga's desire to have something else in her life has overwhelmed the poor girl I think. While Floki's more standoffish nature is less frightening.

It also probably feeds into the real history Floki's future:

Helga is just smothering her and treating her like a substitute not-dead daughter - she's being obsessive and weird.

Floki just spoke to her like a human being; it was probably just reassuring.

And yes, Torvi did a slow blink - with the arrows in the arms/shoulders. She might not be out yet.

So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Well then . . . this talk of whether he/she is dead must address the elephant in the room. When the sons forced King Aella to show them where the remains of Ragnar rested, when that trap door opened, I didn't see any rotting corpse or skeletal remains in there. So is Ragnar dead?

Ragnar is dead. This is how he dies in the history books.

Nice end to the season. Some shocks, but nothing draw dropping.

So Floki will be off on journey of faith next season it looks like? Maybe try out some other major religions of the era? He hates Christianity, Islam intrigued him. I guess Judaism is next for him to see if he can plug it into his heathen belief system? (I sure did not see that end for Helga and slave/daughter. Caught me by surprise)

Bjorn is off for more raiding in the Mediterranean, while Ivar wants to continue raiding the immediate area?

And not sure if it was intentional or not, but the show seemed to play up Sigurd's snake eye when he was a baby back in early seasons and then seemed to emphasize it again upon his death. I wonder if there is something to come out of that?

Looks like Jonathan Rhys Meyers is joining the show as some bad ass warrior/knight bishop-priest dude.

And yeah, confirmed, King Aelle did have blood eagle performed on him. If up to Ivar, King Ecbert would have suffered the same but Bjorn let him open his veins in the hot bath (a preferable way to go, so lucky Ecbert).

And since King Ecbert transferred kingship to Aethelwulf, I'm guessing agreement for lands with Bjorn has no validity?

The lungs out is the blood eagle. Though the cut isn't small since you need access to the ribs, to sever them from the spine so you can pull out the lungs.

Probably just happened off scene. History Channel had a really graphic portrayal of the procedure the first time around. I'm guessing they were not allowed to do it again by the censors. When they hung King Aelle up in the last episode there were two large skin flaps to each side of his back (viewed from the front), like his back had cutting to open it up to get at the contents within. The only thing absent were the lungs draped over each shoulder.

In any event with Ivar's confirmation, the "Blood Eagle" was performed on King Aelle. I guess it's plausible Ivar doesn't know what the specific procedure entails and was just talking in generalities?

Sorry for the size, but I'm was having a hard time making out the word on the sword.

If you guys didn't see the sneak peek for next season that aired during Six (show after Vikings) here it is.

I can't pull much from the peek myself, other then it looks like next season will see a lot of Ivar. (and no Rollo!? boooooooo! Maybe Rollo's story is done?)

Totally saw what was going to happen to Helga.

Sad end for Ecbert, although he managed to get a clean death while giving nothing away that was actually valid, thus screwing them one last time.

The previous ep. scene with Aelle wasn't as graphic but they did show the axe blows through the ribs the back - that once cut spring open to give the wings of the blood eagle, even if they didn't go for the lungs thing that time.

Thought it was pretty funny that within a minute of J RM appearing he was back in the saddle, as it were!

Floki looked weird without his war paint too. Especially the prominent black around his eyes. I wonder if he is through with his goth phase. Posted Image

Oh yeah, there probably a few ways of doing it - it's not like anyone sat down and wrote a How To Do a Blood Eagle Guide. Though I can picture Ragnar taking a stab at such a thing, in a mocking way.

You know Rhys-Myers and Hirst had to be having fun and reliving The Tudors set.

What caught me for a second was that I've always thought the actor playing Uhtred in The Last Kingdom is like a young J RM.. and Im currently rewatching that. Then suddenly in Vikings, as Ragnars sons are sweeping into the country, there is the older version! Now that would be a nice crossover.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Great battle. Enjoyed how everyone got into the mess. Fun to watch Bjorn and Ubbe cut loose. Even Aethelwulf had his moments.

Too much Ecbert. Entirely too much Ecbert wandering around looking senile and lost and hugging people, and his death scene was like 20 minutes of watching him get ready to take a bath and take a bath.

Kind of sad and frustrating to watch Ragnar's sons splinter apart like that, yet entirely appropriate story-wise.

Halfdan ignoring his bro King Harbard's thinly veiled comment that he's heading back to conquer everyone in favor of partying at Club Med with Bjorn was great, as was Bjorn jumping down to give him a hug for it.

Ivar... Sigurd... wow. Fuck. We've been going there for ages, it was inevitable, but even so, that was just fucked up. Ivar is an awesome character.

Bummer about Helga. I don't think we ever saw enough of Tanaruth to really give her stabby/suicide moment the impact it needed. Also, why the fuck was Helga dragging her around a burning collapsing building? Looting? Did really feel for Floki tho'.

The whole intro to Bishop Hottie and his magic sword was abrupt and felt tagged on. Not sure why they felt they needed it here instead of at the start of next season.

No Lagetha / Kattegat follow up makes me sad. Still think Torvi is dead.

Overall, a solid season of VIKINGS. Still one of the bestest things on tv.

Ah you've probably seen this but it made me laugh. (And ok Kathryn Winnick makes me drool)

Would love to have worked on this show.

Wasn't she sitting at the table with the others in the last ep?

Isn't that Torvi in the death boat from the next season trailer?

Sigurd isn't it, in the blue? I thought torvi was with Lag and the rest round the table in the final ep. My wife said, oh look she did survive.

This. It's Sigurd's body in the funeral boat from the preview vid of next season.
