We interrupt this discussion for a silly picture.

I would totally watch/read an X-men/Avengers-babies cartoon/comic.

You can watch the Super Hero Squad Show. It's not babies and it sucks, but close enough.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Information on what is set when and how it slightly differs from the comics from Bleeding Cool:

The first casting calls for X-Men: Days of Future Past state, pretty plainly, that “most of the film” will be set in 1973. This means a gap of over ten years since the events First Class.

Meanwhile, we’ve been led to believe that the “future” sequences will be set in the present day – albeit an alternative version of the present day. The kind of alternative present day where Mr. Strickland comes striding out onto his porch with a shotgun… if Mr. Strickland were a giant robot and the shotgun were a laser claw.

This arrangement is a reverse of the original comic that had the X-Men’s future in the future and the “past” be the present. There really won’t be any missing the metaphorical value in the “future” bits now.

I think that's a decent way to approach it to include the original X-Men and the First Class young versions, whilst still telling the Sentinel-heavy story. Also, they score points for the BTTF reference. :veryangry:

Along with the increasing list of returning cast members, they just announce Halle Berry was signed to reprise Storm.

Her wig is holding out for stock options.

Interesting. And yet, from the trailer I get the impression it is only the name and the concept of the original "days of future past" story line they are using.

I guess that's the way it has to be considering how different the movies are to the original comic book.

*insert raised eyebrow*

Aside from swapping Wolverine and Kitty Pride for the inveterate time traveler, and the aspect of Present and Future for Near-Future-Present and Past...how is it not the same storyline?

You have READ Days Of Future Past right Apt?

Are you kidding me? The Chris Claremont and John Burne run of X-men is probably my all time favorite comic books. I probably read that issue at least 10 times as a kid.

That said I had to go look it up because I didn't remember the Kitty personality transplant. What I was specifically referring to is that, from what I understand about this trailer, the mission is about Xavier. Not about preventing the Brotherhood assassination in the original comic. But of course that might still be the central storyline, they may have just focused on Xavier and "hope" in this trailer for the sake of theatrics.

I'm SO just giving you a hard time Apt.

^_^

I think the footage they had available is why the trailer focuses the way it is...with months of Post-Production yet to go. HOPEFULLY the final product bears more than a passing resemblance to the source material....but yeah it also has to fit into the movie continuity.

EDIT: Oh, and what part gives me a SERIOUS Nerd-On....that's fucking Blink in the future bits. Who is easily in my top-five X-Characters of all time. Gods, that she's in the movie at all gets me in the theatre seat...but then it would seem I'm wholly easy to please. :D

Bishop? He's from an alternative future where Onslaught (an evil amalgam of Xavier and Magneto) killed the X-men.

Which begs the question... what was he doing in this movie? He's not supposed to be borne yet is he?

Blink is in it as well, which suggests they're somewhat fusing Days of Future Past and Age of Apocalypse.

Alls I care about is if they maintain the integrity of the turbulent Bishop/Storm romance. Skip the action stuff and get right to the meat of it. The closing credit song can be "I'm My Own Grandpa".

They've shifted the "future" storyline to a "near-future" one, which includes Bishop ("M" branding scar over his eye and all!), and my guess he will still be useful to Kitty by focusing her energy to send Wolvie back in time.

Blink being in it DOES kind of lead one to believe it will be an Age Of Apocalypse nod...but then again, maybe this is the original Blink who sacrificed herself and becomes not-dead in limbo, who is THOUGHT (never fully proven) to be a descendant of Apocalypse....but wasn't a part of that specific continuity? Or is she the one from EXILES and AGE OF APOCALYPSE? My guess, is the latter, if only because that version of Blink had far more focused powers (and we do seem to see a shot of her in the trailer thrusting a hand forward as if she might be throwing one of her teleportation javelin's of energy....something only the AoA and EXILEs version of the character could do)....but then how do you tie the alt-universe of AoA into the existing X-Men movie canon?

My head hurts.

Having only recently seen X-Men: First Class (finally)...and having immediately discovered it to be one of my very favorite superhero, let alone X-Men movies...I am extremely excited about this new one... ^_^

I wouldn't bet on it being much more than a cameo. Her storyline is WAY too complicated to even touch beyond mutant/teleporter/facial markings.

Bishop was retconned into the/a DoFP timeline at some point.
I don't think they're fusing AoA at all. Blink is just a 'nod' to the fans the way some of the names on the computer screen in XM2 were.

The comics really went all over with that, but they always (that i read) stepped back from it, just in case he was her grandson or something, because all black characters must be related, naturally.

They had some genuinely dire episodes, but overall i enjoyed that series.
EVOLUTION was better overall, but it trumps WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN.

If prob wet my pants if Ap got screen time like I did seeing Thanos. He's my fav X men vilan.

I would give them props if they at least dropped the hint. XM2 left open the possibility but Wolverine:Origins pretty much killed it.

Seriously if they do both Thanos and Apocalypse right they can just quit making comic book movies all together and be satisfied.
