I'll just point out that for a significant portion of the 80s, Magneto was standing in front of a crowd and either cowing them or embolding them by his mere presence in this outfit....

Urgh. That's John Romita Jr's run, isn't it? I have always detested his artwork. You'll be reading a perfectly fine series of comic books, like say World War Hulk, then suddenly John Romita appears and takes a giant dump all over the page completely spoiling all the fun,

That level of Sacrilege is...

I don't even...

Romita Jr. is a god amongst classic comic artists.

That's twice in this thread you've proven your total insanity Apt...one more and we will have to assume you've been taken by a demon of some sort.

I generally like Romita's work but his costume and character visualizations occassionally left something to be desired.

All of JR Jr's characters look like Robert DiNero in Raging Bull. It's absurd. And there's something completely off about the way he posses the characters.

I have to agree with Apt, what little of Romita Jr's art I remember I didn't like. I remember thinking he was a hack.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

But he does kinda look like a robotic polish owl, otherwise.

That's not a Romita issue...it's a colorist issue. The artist doesn't colour their stuff.

That's a totally fair point but doesn't the colorist essentially fill in the colors that the artist scribbles in? Not that it really matters.... just a nitpick of mine towards what would otherwise have been one of my favorite x-baddies from that era.

But it's hard to look at Romita's body of work and argue that he's not a great if not legendary artist, considering some of the legendary runs on various floppies he's done over the years, (NOT including DoFP btw, that was Byrne) . I get what it is some of you dislike, but the multitudes disagreed with their wallets and worship.

I have no idea who this guy is, not being a big comic book reader, but that argument will always be terribly flawed.

Except Abyss is right...some of the more prominent Silver and Bronze Age titles that exist on the auction block fetching high prices are JRJR comics. He's done some very iconic covers.

Abyss: RE: colorist. They artist gives instruction on how things should be coloured, but the colorist can choose to do what they want....a good example is the HUGE difference between the SANDMAN floppies and the ABSOLUTE recolours....in which Gaiman explained that his instructions on colouring often went unheeeded when the issues were originally produced.

Depends on your criteria.

If mass acclaim and profit is the measure of quality and success, than he's a great artist, notwithstanding that this approach means Twilight is the greatest book series ever and terry Goodkind is a genius and oh look my eyes AND ears are bleeding.

But as an objective measure, dollar signs are way easier to measure than subjective likes and dislikes, and 'people are stupid' and the fact that you and i consider those books fit to line a birdcage assuming it's a particularly ugly and unloved bird with loose bowels, doesn't reduce the size of Meyer or Goodkind's bank accounts.

That said, if i personally actually held to that argument i wouldn't be a Malazfan now, would i?

So to shift us back on topic, there will be masses of near suicidal x-comics fans who will yell and scream and dress in sackcloth and ashes when the DoFP flic is released and it doesn't centre around future Kitty Pryde's brain travelling back in time to prevent Senator Kelly's assassination by Mystique and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants... but if the moviegoing masses spend their dollars to see the movie and it makes back its costs and more and triples the take of XM First Class, the movie will be a success.

I dunno, i liked that touch with the scars. I'm not wedded to the comic version of any character. Look at what they did with Toad.

In related news, it's being reported that Jackman is in talks to be Wolverine in it, so Apt may get his wish about the death scene.

...altho i have speculated that what looked like Wolvie's death scene wasn't.... he gets seriously blasted by a sentinel and the next panel shows just his arm and a portion of skull scorched down to the metal bones.

We don't see him again and later stories set in the DoFP don't say otherwise, but this is Wolverine we're talking about... he's not dead.... he's just resting.

Yeah, but only with the direct intervention of Phoenix.
