So, I just finished watching the first episode of this new show. I have to say it was not at all what I expected, in a good way. Having suffered through 10 years of Smallville (there's alot of time of my life I'll never get back) I have to say that I was expecting more of the same from Arrow.
I was pleasantly surprised that it was not to be.
The plot was, well, I suppose cliché is as good a term as any, meaning it's not really anything we haven't seen before, at least so far. But I feel it was executed quite nicely.
The rich son, thought dead, returns to right the wrongs of the city. It's very Batman Begins-esque. Not as awesome as BB, but it was certainly enjoyable.
Arrow differs from Smallville in that this show seems way more mature, more "real". Queen is not the boyscout that Clark Kent was. Quite frankly, Arrow makes Smallville's Oliver Queen seem a bit like a pansy.
I liked it and I hope that this show will continue in the same manner.
Oh, and the show features Katie Cassidy and she is just amazingly hot! Plus she was quite awesome in Supernatural as Ruby so seeing her role in Arrow it'll definitely be interesting to see how she handles that.
In conclusion, I recommend you watch this show. It's not the next best thing, but it's certainly worth your time.

Seconded. It was a bit too redolent of recent Batman offerings, but the whole island thing adds an interesting layer to the story. I'm in for the season. Green Arrow was probably my second-fave DC character.
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

I downloaded this thinking, for some reason, that it was going to be a modern Robin Hood tale. I must've read that somewhere as a buzzword to describe Green Arrow, but skimmed over the part where it said it was actually about Green Arrow lol. So I was like "Okay, this is interesting whatever" and then when he said "My name is Oliver Queen," I thought 'Huh, that name sounds familiar...I wonder why...Oliver...Olly...HOLY SHIT THIS ABOUT THE GREEN ARROW!' I enjoyed it a lot more once I realized that

Green Arrow is always going to suffer poor comparisons to Batman given that the characters share this history, and Batman is the more famous, cooler, more interesting and less bow dependent character.
But if they had done a Batman show it would have suffered from poor comparisons to the films. So Batman fatigue because of the Nolan films would be a problem for either show.
So it will be interesting to see how the show develops and how they deal with the socialist/anarchist politics of Green Arrow which one would assume would be unpopular in the US.

That is true. It's difficult to separate the two characters seeing as how they're very similar. But I also think that Green Arrow is a much better choice for a tv-show than Batman, especially considering the latest success Batman has had with the movies. A tv-show just wouldn't live up to it.
And while I do the same myself, I think it would be unfair to judge Arrow against Batman, they may have similar history, but they're still different.
I think this show would be even more enjoyable if people would just forget about Batman.
The pilot was good, really good and I hope this show will continue for at least a couple of seasons.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Yeah, not really. They are so similar that DC has t frequently go out of their way to try to distance the two in the comics...and they never quite succeed.
Hell, GA was added to Smallville only because they couldn't use Batman at the time.
I'm also astonished that so many people have already said "I'm watching this forever" after one episode (which was only so-so in my opinion)...
Oh and I still miss the BIRDS OF PREY show they did a number of years back with Dina Meyer as Oracle. It was pretty damn good...and BATMAN actually showed up in that one!

Yeah, I thought ep 2 was better. Although it is definitely telegraphing a "Batman Begins" vibe now. Depends how they spin it, but I hope that's not where we're going with it.

Loved the first episode. Definitely as others have said has a very big 'batman begins' vibe. Which is good but I hope they dont go the 'batman begins' route where he sacrifices his normal life for his other life. I would like a balance.

Once again I enjoyed the new episode. Good, though somewhat predictable, story with decent acting and fun action.
I like how the story includes family drama but doesn't overplay it to the extent seen in other series (smallville for example)
While I enjoy the entire show I have to say that the most interesting part right now is the story taking place on the island. Especially considering last weeks cliffhanger and this weeks follow-up.
I'm not so sure about the addition of Emily Bett Rickards, the computer "geek". She's certainly hot, but I can't help but wonder if she's there to play to the adolescent fantasies of fanboys hoping for a super hot woman who's also "one of them". I'm hoping that's not the case and that her addition, even if only temporary, to the cast is part some other, more interesting, story that that.
But all in all, another good episode.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's the case. Sorry.
Anyway, I agree it was a good ep.

And we're done.
We gave it 2 eps (we usually give shows 3 eps), but even the 2nd ep didn't really engage us at all. I need a show to engage me at least enough that I don't spend the whole thing on my phone. Which I did.
Both the Mrs and I said it just made us miss Smallville GA. Which I know, is really sad.
Anyways, enjoy all.

Finally saw the premiere. Way better than I was expecting.
Desthstroke's mask and 'speedy' were nice touches and they even threw in some Longbow Hunter possibilities .
Have the next 3 on dvr so we'll see how it goes.

Yep, that's a sold out for me too ( What,I'm who-fan, what did you expect?)
To be serious, I think the show is pretty good, by really, really "clichésque" (if you know what I mean). It's not bad, but the show lack a little something for me. I'll continue to watch the show, but for the moment, I'm not really "hooked".
Sorry for my english ;), I'm french :P

All up to date and i'm in.
It's not brilliant but the plots move along, the acting is mostly decent, and the action scenes are phenomenally well done by network tv standards provided one overlooks the use of a bow as a hand-to hand weapon, which makes no sense for multiple reasons.
What happened on the island is the big mystery, between the Japanese archer, the commandos, the buddhist arrowhead and the Russian gangster tats, but i'm liking the over-plot involving the father's colleagues and mommy Queen's role in it.
Thea/Speedy gets annoying but also gets most of the best lines.

Who do we think Dig is going to end up being? (If he's a character from the comics)

They're playing pretty fast and loose with DC source material.... i mean my knowledge of GA canon is spotty but i'm pretty sure Oliver Queen never had a kid sister... and Speedy was Roy Harper's original (and really silly) hero name that goes all the way back to the pre-crisis Earth 2 GA... plus they're ducking away from 'codenames' generally (aside from Deadpool, but nice touch with the tattoos)... and just calling Ollie 'The Hood', which is neither green nor arrow but fairly obvious even so.
All of which is to say i foresee Dig operating in more of a support/chauffer/backup role and not putting on a silly mask.
That or they'll go hamhanded and make him 'Cyborg', in which case i will likely drop the show faster than the next Flash tv series.
