3 victory tiles are drawn and placed on the Hegemony player sheet.

Woah - it should only be 2 tiles, no? (1 for fighting, 1 for killing an ancient) and only the best one goes on the player board (though since Morgy sees them we should all be told what they were)

Yeah, you're right. I'll remove the last I drew. Otherwise all the character sheets should be updated I think. Including Tappers. Which he should check before deciding how to do his upkeep.

Upkeep

I need you guys to list how you're doing your upkeep and then I'll set things up for round 2.

Yeah. Got me a little worried. It would've been better with at least 1 cruiser lost.

Tapper, did you still want diplomatic relations?

I'll pay my bills by removing the influence marker from 2B (the empty tile), which should leave me with a bill of -5.

I'll pay for that with my initial cash of 2, plus 4 income.

Which should leave me at the start of turn 2 with:

Money: 1 /+4
Research: 6 /+3
Materials: 9 /+6

OK, so my upkeep should go like this:

Starting Money: 2
Income: 6
Upkeep: 7

=> Finishing Money: 1

Starting Science: 3
Income: 3

=> Finishing Science: 6

Starting Materials: 3
Income: 4

=> Finishing Materials: 7

So for turn 2, I should start with the following:

Money: 1/+6
Science: 6/+3
Materials: 7/+4

ST
Don't look now, but I think there's something weird attached to the bottom of my posts.

Yup. I am not so concerned with you attacking me, considering the cost of such an action (even though you'd quite likely win, you'd spend one turn's resources on a single hex).
The economic pay-off of the exchange is very valuable to me, and should go some way to proving I am not interested in player-on-player hostility.

Morghy: at the aftermath of combat, offer an ambassador-exchange with D'rek, please.

----<upkeep>----------

Starting money: 3 starting + 8 money from disco tile --> 11

Upkeep Cost: -13
Remove disc from 1F --> -10 upkeep.

Pay 10 money.

Collect stuff:
1 money left after upkeep +3 from pop track (+4 from ambassador, if accepted) --> 4 (or 5) money
3 science left before upkeep + 4 science from pop track (not counting the removed disc) --> 7 science
0 materials + 3 mats from pop track ---> 3 materials.

The Hegemon is mightily impressed with the power of our computers to roll sixes to beat the Ancients and declares a national holiday to celebrate this memorable feat. He also extends the offer of mutual benefit and friendship through diplomatic relations to the Hydran people.

According to external sources, the Hegemony was close to bankrupcy and only a mighty amount of luck prevented its utter collapse.

Our billions of roots quiver at the thought of the Hegemony having free reign to expand at their leisure. Foolishly allowing their imperialistic ambitions to flourish unchecked is what one classifies in the great moss mind as A Very Bad Idea.

I don't think you can do that - unless I'm reading it wrong, the rules seem to say that you can only remove a disc if you can't afford your upkeep, and you can (money gained factors in at the same time as upkeep).

The way I understand it is that it goes:

1. Use remaining colony ships
2. Calculate your new money, Bank + Income - Upkeep. If it will be positive, adjust it and go to step 4. If it will be negative, go to step 3.
3. Trade science for one money OR trade materials for one money OR remove one influence disc and the cubes from that sector back to your influence/population tracks. Go back to step 2.
4. Add science and materials according to your income for them. Upkeep phase done!

So you can't trade for more money than you need or remove influence discs if you don't need to.

Hmm, we played it wrong at home, then. Perfectly possible, of course. We all jumped on the chance to use bankruptcy/ the upkeep phase to remove discs from unwanted systems (mostly the disco ones) instead of wasting the Influence action on it (which costs a disc itself).

Zee Rulez:

Quote

Civilization Upkeep Collect your Income and pay your Civi
lization Upkeep cost. This is done by comparing your posi
tive Money Income (the highest exposed number on your
Money Population Track) with your Influence Cost for that
turn (the highest exposed number on your Influence Track).
The adjust your Money Storage marker on the Storage
Track by this net amount (upwards by any excess Income
and downwards by any deficit).

bankruptcy? The Money Storage Marker may not move
below zero; if that would happen, you must trade other Re
sources (Science and Materials) for Money, or give up control of some of your sectors by removing Influence Discs
from the hexes and returning them on your Influence Track
until the Influence Cost is small enough. All Population
Cubes from these hexes are moved to their respective Pop
ulation tracks on your Player Board. Cubes from gray (wild)
squares may go on any track, and cubes from Orbitals may
go to either the Money or Science track. Note that if you
have to return Money cubes from the hex, they return to
the Money Population track, reducing the Income as well.

You're spot on. No disc removal, then :blink:

Correct bank:
2 money
9 science (6 on cube track since I cannot remove the disc)
3 materials

Who is obviously going to return the disc from his empty sector to pay his upkeep. Go on without him! :blink:
