Just ordered it from Amazon.Ca

Should arrive around April 2nd. (That was the estimate, anyway.)

I will post my impressions and hopefully others will too, and will do so more eloquently than I ever could. I'm not much of a reviewer.

woohoo! This book is fantastic!!Posted Image

The Nansur-Scylveni (sp?) battle was brilliant, i loved the sorcery (that ghostly head of a dragon was so cool). Sorcery in his world seems to be similar to tolkien's sorcery, not to mention Brooks' Wishsong.
320 pages in and i love the way he maks none of the characters perfect people, there is always somehting wrong with them, and they always have loads of prejuidices etc.
So far, i think the best part of the book was Kellhus and the Nonman's battle at the beginning. That was fantastic. Can't wait to till we see Kellhus again (is it Kellhus we see, or just another of teh Anasurimbor line with the same name?). Can't wait to see some more Nonmen either.Posted Image

EDIT: lol, of course its the same Kellhus we see with Cnaiur, i missed the little date that split the prologue in twoPosted Image

It was only sideways stated, but strongly implied that part of the reason Cnaiur helped Moe kill Cnaiur's dad and escape was that they had a physical relationship.

This is even more complicated when it's also implied that Moe was gettin' it on with Cnaiur's mom as well.

And we thought Tiste/Elder God relationships were complicated...

@Falco re: chorae - i actually liked the fact that there was a relatively mundane and common anti-magic response. The Scarlet Bros. spent a LOT of time staying out of the action for this reason. All too often in fantasy, magic is either this unstoppable force, except by other magic (Jordan, Erikson) or seriously vague and indirect so that the average sword-swinger isn't directly confronted with it (Martin, Brooks). Bakker took a fairly novel middle-road - yes, the average soceror is a badass, but with a little luck, a farmboy with a pitchform and a piece of copper his dad gave him
can kebab the sorceror but good.

- Abyss, likes the Crusades theme.

Yes. But I thought Cnaiur was just a boy in that time.

So, at year's end, has anyone else read the books? I have seen it listed several times on the best of 2003 list..

"And those that endure in Middle-earth and come not to Mandos shall grow weary of the world as with a great burden, and shall wane, and become as shadows of regret before the younger race that cometh after."

Well I am nearly finished the book and it is an awesome read. Almost impossible to put down once you get going on it. I am impressed with the author's website as well, I've never seen any author actually post the maps and appendix from the book on their website before.

Sounds very interesting. I just slapped this on my wishlist. The names are a bit halting but it sounds good. Thanks!

Apparently I'm in the minority on this, but I got the sense that Cnauir has some serious unresolved homosexuality issues, related to an affair with Kelhus' dad when he was a prisoner. By taking Serwe and treating her as he did, he was trying to assert his own masculinity.

- Abyss, also anticipating book three.

Rodeo, I really liked the end. I didn't see it coming at all and when it did it was awesome! But yeah, leaves you drooling for more. Lets just hope he delivers on that April 2004 date for the next one.

Yes, it's worth the time and effort. A little disturbing in some parts, but well worth the read. Looking forward to the next book.

"When Sorcerers Sing?". Wasn't that some cheesy 80's song by a group called ABC?

I was reading the Q&A thread and noticed that Erikson said he really liked it, so I checked it out on Amazon but it isn't available yet, The summary sounds like something I and other Malazan fans might enjoy.

"And those that endure in Middle-earth and come not to Mandos shall grow weary of the world as with a great burden, and shall wane, and become as shadows of regret before the younger race that cometh after."

i looked for this at chapters today. didnt see it there, but asked a staffer. after chcking on his comp. he told me its got an april pub. date so it should be in the shops (at least in canada) by the 2nd week of april or so.

i also checked bakka but they never have any idea whats going on with any even mildly interesting books. or so it seems to me everytime i go there.

i figure it should be available either a little earlier or later in the states depending on what its pub. date is there...

either way, cant wait to get my hands on it.

@Mithfânion - Thanks!

Says so much and yet my questions just multiplied tenfold.
