I approve heartily of women lifting and such things. Theres a powerlifting website that I frequent that has an article on female lifters every monday and is very useful, especially the comments.

However female lifters are still in the minority as women, by and large, dont want to go to the gym as they think theyll get bulky, which is nonsense. Women have much less testosterone than men and therefore are not going to pack on a few stone of muscle. It really is a shame that women still think thin and under fed is glamorous and attractive.

Also is that supposed to be strong is the new skinny in the title of the thread?

Do all women now look like this ?

When did this happen ?
Now all the friends that you knew in school they used to be so cool, now they just bore you.
Just look at em' now, already pullin' the plow. So quick to take to grain, like some old mule.

That's hard as fuck to attain. It's hard to have a defined body as a man, and a lower bodyfat percentage is much more difficult as a woman than a man, at least while retaining muscle mass. This won't ever be in style, imo.

I don't like the whole not eating thing either, though. Totally ruins perfectly attractive women when their ass disappears and they get that gaunt-faced look.

edit: Also, the girl on the right has extremely defined arms. Offputting. Left is much better.

Also, it's probably good to mention:

If they got like this by being healthy, that's absolutely fantastic. But all too often we get into steroid territory, and that can have long term affects.

They're not in competition shape for lifting or bodybuilding contests there in that picture - although both are still on a strict dietary regimen. Steroids most likely aren't involved at that point - the calories haven't been cut to the absolute minimum causing lethargy and workouts that nearly kill 'em. Granted, speculating from a photo is usually terrible and can be inaccurate.

I like the one on the right for her more athletic look. Other one looks like she's dialed in her diet and that's about it.

I've worked out in the gym with a few women friends. One who'd been doing nothing but running all her life could not even do the squat motion. No barbell, no weights, just her own body. Couldn't do a squat. She eventually abandoned the weights after two weeks of just not getting the motions down and went back to running. Another lady was a champ at getting it all done, but triathlons were more her thing. Another had an odd workout regimen that was really upper body focused and relied on lots and lots of reps at low weights (urrrrrggh, not my bag at all). She's still working out now and then, but in Texas (halfway across the country).

I have a few online women friends in Canada who are awesome at actually lifting weights in a real way (no tiny weights, high rep schemes) to get fit. They're doing extremely well and getting results from it that are surprising them (which is terrific). Granted, most of them are also martial artists themselves (Brazilian jiu jitsu and/or Muay Thai) so they know that this stuff works and are more exposed to real exercise that doesn't come out of awful magazines.

Anyways, "Strong Is The New Skinny" isn't actually true. Rising obesity rates worldwide disprove that. There's just a good, marketable population of people who have the money and time to put into getting really fit.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I never really understood skinny, so I have no real reason to try to understand this.

Seriously?

But of course

I saw "strong is the new skinny" in a random article I read earlier this week. Dont ask me where, I read a lot of articles a week to keep up with trends and ideas while at work...At least that's my excuse :harhar:

I then went onto pinterest today and typed the word "women" in the search bar. Out of the 1st 30 odd pictures the majority was women sporting hard ass bodies with tight abs and whatnot. do it yourself, it was a bit of a surprise to see an image of a woman doing some funky handstand thingy on a stool with the very same title and hence the idea for the title.

Pinterest is awesome BTW

Regardless of the increase in obesity amp, what the op means is that strong is the new 'look' to go for and may even replace skinny as being the ideal female form in these modern times.

Whatever works for people, I guess. Unlike many men magazines and other advertising would lead you to believe, a very large number of women really don't care if a guy is skinny or fit. Maybe I just hang out with strange women, but not one of them finds bulkiness attractive. That's not to say that this doesn't get some women going, though; everyone has their own tastes. The same holds true for what males like to see in females: while I personally don't find those muscular women to be attractive, I'm sure there are guys out there who love it. I think the whole, "All guys want women to be super skinny!" thing is just overblown in our minds because of the media.
uhm, that should be 'stuff.' My stiff is never nihilistic.

It is also important to note that people have vwery different body types and a lot of people can never reath the media's "ideal" for their gender and would become exceedingly unhealthy if they tried. People should just be healthy and happy, which can come in lots of very different shapes.

I fall into the 'strange women' catergory then because I'm not a fan of bulkiness at all.
So long as their weight isn't a health risk it doesn't matter. Though of course we all tend to have a preference (not a requirement, Frook :) )and mine would be a guy who has well defined, but not bulky, arms and is cuddly around the middle. :harhar:

Please edit the name of the thread. I'm begging you.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
