Spending today blitzing through Season 2 (up to ep 7 or 8 now, had to re-watch the eps I'd watched when it first aired 1-4)...and I had to stop and say that THE BEGINNINGS P1 and 2 are arguably the FINEST set of eps that KORRA has done. Not only is the story of Wan (the 1st Avatar) really amazingly told with both the air of whimsy (elemental Lion Turtle cities), and fairytale, but also with solid emotion (elderly Wan apologizing to Rava for not being able to keep darkness at bay in the human world)...but sweet merciful crap the animation style they switched to was GORGEOUS...the curled tune shading was just stunning to watch.

Goddamn I love this show. I'm only glad I'm finally taking the time to watch S2 so I can get on S3 in short order. I can't eblieve I had watched the first like 4 eps and got too busy to finish till now...man, I'm a moron.

I think the equalists were a great villain, they should have made it a world wide problem and kept it for more than a season. Any good show has a coherent story that is well planned out ahead of time. Even the action choreography is lacking in the new one.

Also a personal taste thing but I can't stand that republic city has phones and cars and the rest of the world is feudal china.

I'm still feeling a tie in from the Equalists and current goings on might be possible. I suspect the authors had a reason for introducing that particular storyline. The creative team have an overarching mythos and I'm still half expecting Amon to pop up round the next corner.

LoK has been pretty clear its championing the idea of revolution and social awareness. That means blurry lines between enemies and friends and I think theres some depth to be had in this theme. Animation wise I'm lamenting the more graceful movements of the first season. Older bending was far more expressive.

Watch episodes 10-14 back to back, you won't regret it!

Season 3...

Anyone else annoyed by the large use of old voice actors for new or multiple characters?

@Champ (didn't want to quote your post so I wouldn't see spoilers for S3) yeah that's totally my plan. Since the wife and I went out to the movies yesterday I didn't get a chance to finish S2 yet, but I'll defo make sure to watch 10-14 back to back when I do so. Thanks for the advice!

The most recent NEWS (from SDCC panel) from the creators is that Nick has removed KORRA S3 from their TV sched (as they claim it never really FIT there as far as ratings)....but that their digital numbers have always been beyond ridiculously high/good...so KORRA S3 is being moved entirely online and digital (fresh eps come back Aug 1st) where it apparently enjoys the most robust audience. I have no issue with this as I buy the seasons on iTunes to watch at my leisure and no need to stream, but it's actually good to know that Nickolodeon is paying that much attention to numbers. It sucks for those who were only watching on TV though.

Anyways, as for me, I finished Season 2 and really enjoyed the ending. I know a lot of people had issues with season 2 in general losing a bit of steam and focus, but aside from the First Avatar section (which was my fave bit), I thought they brought it home strongly in the end, and the Harmonic Convergence blows open the world in ways that will be fertile ground for storytelling.

Can't wait to start Season 3!

I've got the first 8 eps of S3 ready to rock (will probably start tonight).

After that I may finally watch the original AIRBENDER series as it's all on Netflix. Plus, if it's even half as a good as KORRA, I'm SO in.

Oh I don't mind it being more for kids, it will be nice to see some of the older characters everyone talks about in their original incarnations.

The Last Airbender series was stronger than Korra all around, IMHO. The episodes that were episodic in nature were still stronger than a lot of what happened throughout Season 2 of Korra's overarching plot. I strongly recommend that you DO watch it, much of what you would take for granted in Korra is stuff that is just being discovered in the Last Airbender series.

For example, Toph Beifong (Lin's mom) is the first person to ever discover Metalbending, which is something that is seen regularly from the very beginning of Korra. Same goes with that Echolocation thing that Lin does in Season 1, this was first used by Toph Beifong in Last Airbender, though I don't know if she's the first to ever use it. Lightning-bending is a highly disciplined version of fire-bending in Last Airbender, whereas it's pretty commonplace in Korra. Same with Bloodbending - if I remember correctly, this is discovered by the waterbender chick from Last Airbender (the one that ends up marrying Aang and is Tenzin's mom).

Spoiler

Plus there's the whole history of the Last Airbender thing that you just don't know about, so the fact that there are suddenly a whole bunch of new airbenders wouldn't have quite the same impact on you as it would on someone who's seen Last Airbender. There's just so much history that you're missing because you haven't seen Last Airbender that would totally help enrich your whole Avatar world. So yes, as I said, I highly recommend it!

Yep. It seems to be the running suggestion amongst fans that I watch the original so Netflix it is! Thanks!

Airbender is >>>>>>>> Korra

Until you watch it you are committing a crime against all of Geekdom. The story, action, choreography and production is just levels above.

Caught up to Ep 9 of Book 3 now. Some great villains this season. Really challenging all around.

Metal city is awesome, and Lin has a sister!

Also it is nearly impossible to dislike Varrick! LOL

now I'm sad that I have to wait till next week for the next one!

Im actually very interested now to hear your take on the first series. I think its miles ahead better but I obviously saw it first. I am curious if you will come to the same conclusion having seen Korra first.

You will know soon. I'm now 4 eps into the first Book of THE LAST AIRBENDER. Already enjoying it muchly. Sokka seems like he is the cloth from which both Bolin and Mako have been cut, he's got traits of both those Korra characters. It's also funny to see Zuko as an impetuous youth, instead of the stalwart old man I know him as from Korra. Also, it's nice to see Iroh who I have only met as an old man walking the spirit realm. So far so good.

While I will continue to watch, I find that AIRBENDER is infinitely more childish (as BK mentioned) as a show. It feels more like Scoobydoo than I thought it would.

The first visit to Ba Sing Sai was a little strange.

Still, enough to keep me entertained, just on a different level than KORRA does.

Keep in mind that it gets mildly less childish, and the story gets infinitely more interesting, the further in you get. I had a hard time with the first season, but by the time it was over, I was completely hooked.

Yeah, I figured that would be the case. Even in the ep in Ba Sing Sai which I found REALLY childish and kind of lackluster, I found some GREAT writing and dialogue. But yeah, I'll definitely push on.
