Actually, his point was quite valid.
Merrid and Korlat had their information offered on the same day (I'm going with the assumption that this is true, I cba to check from my phone atm).
So it's probably safe to assume that there is a finder for each faction.
A finder would not want to reveal the people of his faction, so he would probably not offer a contract against his own team, and they were on the same day, so they couldn't be from the same team.
But, as I'm typing this, I had a thought.
There have been 2 a day, right? What if the independant was a double finder? Or there are two finder independants? It seems strange that two people have been released each time. (I remember there being two, please correct me if I'm wrong, won't be home for a while).
I think you're misunderstanding me. It doesn't matter if their info was posted on the same day or not. All that matters is that it's possible that Korlat (not a Finder) purchased the info on Merrid and realized they were allies. Hence Korlat's sudden defense of Merrid.
We don't know who the Finders are, forget about them. It's possible they are involved in this web but unlikely. You can assume each side has one if you want. In that case, whoever found Merrid wasn't on Merrid's team; sold the info on the Bazaar; Korlat buys it, finds out he IS on Merrid's team. Mystery solved.
The most obvious answer is that someone bought the info and what do you know, that person is on their team! Time to defend them!
