Is it just me or is that Livestock contract stupid?

I mean, someone could put Livestock on the market for 500, thus fulfilling the contract, but if the contract giver isn't quick, then someone else could easily snap up those Livestock.

Much more going on in that market than last time.

Taking a look, the first couple things on the list were posted extremely cheap compared to the rest. Not a good idea, and here's why -

People need these goods to make things. The Nepeth people needed slaves and metal (or weapons? can't remember) to turn into retainers. Since there are no retainers on the market, I would assume this is the way, at least early game, to obtain them. So by putting goods up for low cost, you potentially advantage the other teams. I guarantee each faction has things that can't be obtained except through the bazaar, so why price your goods so low? The need for 500 dinari can't be THAT great to give someone else such an advantage.

Other than that, what we know is:

The Houses of Agreement are one faction. From last game, they probably have more cash, and can build more goods. Last game, none of them had any kind of attacking abilities, but they might this time, since they don't have those horse people on their team.

The Cult of Vultures, Guild of Beggars, and Nepeth are another faction. The Nepeth were attackers last game, and they will most likely be a military presence this game as well. We haven't encountered the Cult of Vultures or the Guild of Beggars yet, though.

Yeah, that makes me a bit nervous - as I understand it, the only reason you'd need lots of water is if you had retainers in your service. And if you've got retainers, you're going to be hard to kill in battle...

Interesting that you are worried about others being hard to kill and not about others having the intention to kill. That seems a lot like you have an battle action.

Maybe, maybe not :p.

The reason I phrased it that way is because I have no idea if all retainers give you combat strength or not. I mean, you could conceivably have a retainer of strength 0, right? But one thing that is constant is that he will provide you with some protection in battle because of how the battle rules work.

Ah, I didn't thought of that possibility.

I tend to agree with you, yeah. Especially since 500 dinari is lower than the rate most people are selling their goods for, which means it's likely to get snapped up pretty quick.

Also, we have 13 players and Tapper said the game may last 3 weeks real time. This makes me think night time deaths won't be common.

I think that's probably just a case of the market taking a while to find it's equilibrium. Plus, there are all those buildings that allow you to convert base goods into 500d, so that gives a guide on how much they should be worth. But on the surface, it's a reasonable point. I do detect a potential undercurrent here though - this post does seem to be exhorting people to make things more expensive. Perhaps Anthras feels has a lot of money in his coffers and wants to price other people out of the market? Or maybe he has lots of goods to sell and wants to get people to think that prices should be higher?

Welcome, welcome to the game of games. Day one, page 2, and we're discussing contracts and the market? Tapper is changing the face of Mafia. Inconceivable!

I just don't want to get murderized by someone who became a superpower because people decided to sell all the stuff he needed at the absolute minimum price (500 dinari).

Is anyone any good at picking out codes? Because this post just screams "I tried coding something into my first post!":

The syntax is overly contrived and non-naturalistic. Plus, look how he writes out 'one' but leaves '2' as a numeral. 'Inconceivable!' may be a Princess Bride reference, but it also doesn't really fit in context. I feel like there's got to be something here...

You keep using these words...I do not think they mean what you think they mean.

Now that I think about it, it looks like someone's doing some speculation on the bazaar. Notice how all the goods sold in G1-7 are then put back on the market at a higher price in G8-13. That means potentially they're stuck with a lot of goods they don't actually want...maybe we should punish them by not buying their stuff :p.

This is interesting. If he's right, it seems like the point of this post is to get other players to start putting items for sale of a certain type that haven't been sold yet, meaning he needs those items to produce something. So, what types of items haven't been listed or sold yet? Could give us insight into what role Anthras might be. Also it ties in with what Korlat was saying about Anthras perhaps having a lot of cash and subtly trying to encourage people to put up valuable goods (i.e., not yet seen on the Bazaar) for a high price so he can purchase them. He cautions against this a little bit before the underlined part, but if anything it just seems like smart play and distancing.

Finally here! This seems interesting, what with the bazaar picking up so fast and guessing games. With all this player run stuff I hope no one breaks anything! (ex. Deleting the bazaar, etc.)

It's possible that simply having a contract fulfilled can be a requirement to something else or gives the player/role a benefit in some way. I'm speculating, but like, "If you list a contract and it is purchased the same day, you gain 1000 Denari" or something like that. Because obviously the person putting up the Livestock would get immediate cash but also proceeds from the sale, if it happened. So there is massive incentive to fulfill that contract. It must benefit the person behind the contract somehow.

Aaaaand just as I posted that someone put up the required Livestock and is going to claim fulfillment of the contract, I assume. Very interesting.

Of course I do. That's why I believe everyone does. What's the point of making a bazaar if people don't need to use it? Obviously we don't have the means to make all the stuff we can make.

Believe the second part if you want, no harm to me. Don't really get what you're saying at the end there.

Also, I reckon the two contracts have both been put up by the same person - they're the only ones in which it's been written 'd' instead of 'dinari'.

So, going with my theory above, what would someone want with 2 Livestock and 2 Dancers.

Why is bestiality the only thing that comes to mind?
