That's the Lincoln Memorial, I believe, but the point is well made.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I read that the they wanted to avoid the appearance of the military dealing with a protest that involved an election but it is beyond ridiculous that this happened. Had to be enough security from other non military sources. They knew it was gonna be bad. They had the national guard
On standby.

Ossoff 50.31% to Perdue 49.69% right now. Ossoff would need to win by more than 0.5% to avoid a recount. 50.31-49.69 = 0.62 and a recount almost certainly won't change the result, but it's close....

Wonder if Trump's facing any 25th amendment pressure from Pence and the Cabinet to not further incite the rioters (or promise to preemptively pardon them). Or if the Cabinet is too 'loyal', or too afraid of being replaced....

Representative Omar is drafting articles of impeachment.

Always been curious, how seriously do police pursue people in protests like this to lay charges. We have the tech to track them all down. I mean this is no joke

All these anti-mask morons running around in front of all these cameras is how we get thousands of felony charges after Jan 20th.

What a fucking dark and sad day for America.

It's just bizarre. I've not seen much due a new UK lockdown induced mini breakdown so I don't know how serious it is and I'm assuming all will be fine on 20th January so it's kind of cheering me up in a dumbfounded way. As if life isn't weird enough these days.

Haven't been able to keep up with the breaking events, but is it true one of the major media outlets was reporting that inside was heard - "the beatings will stop when our demands are met"?

Also, defund the police. They don't do their jobs. Aren't trained. Are racist. And are protected from any repercussions when the demonstrably cause harm.

The German Foreign Office issued a travel warning for Washington DC. Basically don't go there now. Violence and firearm use are very likely...

This whole situation seems so unreal. Didn't expect that it would be possible to walk into the capitol just like that

The Capitol Police let them in. It's on video.

For a man that was on the verge of being overtaken by a mob that officer is remarkably in control. That must have been crazy scary.

Trumps video asking the protestors to be peaceful. What a joke. He asks for peace but than immediately says the election was stolen and than call the democrats evil.

Nope, Utah doesn't like DJT much and Mitt has been trying to score points by going against Trump in public but voting for every single thing that McConnell or Trump ask for.

No points are awarded to Mitt.

Trump won Utah. They're not as strongly for Trump as other red states because Mormons are generally more ideologically consistent than evangelical Christians, but there is definitely political risk for Romney here. I don't agree with his policy positions and I think many of them are immoral, but I believe he deserves credit for doing what none of his colleagues are brave enough to do.

Another Republican senator, Richard Burr (formerly the chair of the senate Intelligence committee, resigned when caught insider-trading).

He knew that the minute he did anything other than back away, the MAGAts would use it as an excuse to escalate. Poor guy — he had no choice but to stay in control.

'Trump sided with his supporters after they stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, saying of the violence: "These are the things and events that happen when a sacred landslide election victory is so unceremoniously & viciously stripped away from great patriots who have been badly & unfairly treated for so long." [...] two explosive devices were found during the riot.'

'Twitter on Wednesday said it would lock the account of President Donald Trump for 12 hours after Trump posted tweets continuing to make false claims about the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

Facebook, YouTube and Twitter on Wednesday removed a video by President Donald Trump addressing Washington rioters.

Meanwhile, calls are mounting for Twitter and Facebook to suspend Trump's accounts.'

This is the lamest, most low-key and yet still outrageously publicized soft coup ever attempted.

The fact that so many Republicans are willing to play this sort of brinkmanship with our democracy is just awful. You only have your jobs because of fucking democracy you idiots! If too many people keep edging on that slippery slope everybody's going to fucking collapse in an avalanche!

Brinksmanship --> today.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....
