Nothing can be 100% divorced from USA politics in this era of globalization, but don't underestimate the difference between us. Much like when Michael Zehaf-Bibeau killed Nathan Cirillo and attacked Parliament Hill in 2014, we will react calmly. We will mourn the victims, decry the hatred which lead to this event, and give our sympathy to the loved ones of those who passed. Afterwards, we will question what new precautions, if any, we could take to prevent this tragedy from happening again, and make whatever efforts are necessary to reassure the world that this is still a safe place to come to, that you are still welcome here. Our news outlets will describe the situation as exactly what it is, not sensationalize it for the sake of entertainment. While your politicians will no doubt respond to this tragedy by somehow twisting it into a reason to further support their policies of deportation, limiting rights, unrestricting guns or just certain people not being welcome, our politicians will say this changes nothing. We will fight this with compassion instead of hatred, much as we have done before.
It's too bad we can't fully divorce from U.S. politics, actually. If we could, the papers would have been filed long ago.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.
