The democrats will be fine. This is Hillary's last hurrah if she loses, so they will have fresh faces to challenge going forward. Plus voters for change not getting it or not getting the change they want.

The whole notion of the map going red or blue in the short term is somewhat overplayed. The reasons Trump is scary are first, his demeanor and what that could mean diplomatically, and second, that he managed to get this many votes with this campaign. Those problems are far bigger than democrat or republican.

I'm really impressed that Evan McMullin managed to get 25% of the Utah vote (that's the current count, anyways) for his "no one gets 270" plan. Has anyone in recent history done something similar, or is this a sort of first (that could be used as inspiration for an even bigger similar attempt in the future)?

Really tough to call. He may well have gotten a bunch of votes Hillary lost, but failed to connect and win a bunch of the votes she got.

Bernie—and I say this despite him not being my first choice—was probably one of the best candidates the Dems could have chosen to run against Trump. They were well matched; Bernie shared a lot of Trump's appeal to disaffected white voters. He was an anti-establishment candidate, he didn't have Hillary's baggage, and the red scare probably wouldn't have been as big a drawback as people assumed. People are talking about Gary Johnson as a factor, but I'm not convinced he made a difference. The vast majority of Johnson voters are Republicans who don't like Trump. Some of them might have supported Bernie in the primary, but these are clearly people without strong party ties who were never going to vote for Hillary. People on MSNBC (Maddow, etc.) are saying "but what if these people voted for Hillary?" You might as well ask, "What if Trump voters voted for Hillary?" It's not a helpful question to ask.

So-so. The pot thing passed, but it is a weirdly pro-corporate version of "legal" pot I've read, at least in terms of producers, so we'll see. It's good for consumers and both on a freedom-of-choice and a legalization level. The wrong death penalty prop won -- time for CA to join the executions race, I guess. Some of the spending/taxing stuff that passed is really good. ESL programs, plastic bag issues, parole, and porn condoms all went the right way imo. The ammo proposition passed too -- it's basic background checks and a prohibition on large capacity magazines, which I think are both reasonable. Some real low-info issues passed though, like a weird one requiring the state legislature to post bills only 72 hours before the vote. It's just one of those blindly anti-gov things that has no real logic. There was a weird prescription drug spending bill that had a VERY constant ad campaign against it from big pharma, and so it failed. Sorry if that's TMI about a state you don't live in.

Gotcha...it interesting that AZ was the only state that didn't vote legal weed...everyone else did. All the other one fit with California...as I get older i think leaving people in the clinker is better then the death penalty..that's not our choice. Big pharma makes a mess out of everything.
