And all the other people on the thread who said they won't be reading it, are they super weird too or was that just reserved for me... dawg

We were discussing it, and people weighed in on if and when they'd read it when it finally comes out during said discussion.

You just came in and said "Oh my god, you people still want to read this?! I'm not, and I need you to know that!"....and then you dropped back in after Worry made a joke about your post....to reiterate that refusal to read it.

If you can't see the difference, I can't help you.

Yeah we've all been there. FWIW I'm not reading any further until the series is finished. By GRRM or a legacy author a la Branderson for WOT.

It was bad enough waiting for AFFC. By the time ADWD came out I was all "Meh, I'll wait until it's done thanks".

Nothing against anyone waiting and reading as they come out though. Fill your boots.
I dunno how you remember anything though. I'll have to consult wikis or similar before I open ADWD.

We should all stop reading, period. Nasty habit, flares up the body’s humors, particularly yellow bile.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Aww I'm finally learning to read and now you're telling me we should stop?! Oh woe is me!

Let me make it easy for you:
Stuff happened. Some of it was incest. Also, dragons, zombies, and a short dude with a huge cock and an unhealthy obsession with dead hookers.

100% this. Too much time between books means a required reread of prior materials each time and with an unknown amount of books still on the horizon this is becoming madness. I cannot even fully remember anymore which bits were book cannon and which bits have filtered into the story in my head from the TV series. Once rereads turn from fun into a chore, it is time to move on. I completely appreciate that GRRM has no formal obligations to us and that he can finish or not finish stuff anyway he pleases. But then he will have to appreciate that most of his reader base will have moved on and doesn't care anymore. The pendulum swings both ways and he is taking the mickey by continuously flogging a dead horse.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

I wonder if the sequel series for Snow is going to have any affect on whatever it is GRRM has planned. Or are they going multiverse type, this is a different story sort of thing.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

From want I understand Kit went to GRRM with his idea and GRRM approved it, so I feel like it will be a soft retcon of S8 to align more with what GRRM set out, and the show will add context to everything. Like I think the Prince that was Promised thing is still in play, and the "Long Night" is still in play and has not occurred yet.

I can't see any show continuing Jon's journey to NOT softly retcon some of the more heinous things D&D did in S8.

As such, I expect the two remaining books to sort of align with that if they need to?

But in the end, who knows.
