I've always wanted to, but never tried...perhaps this is my year? I dunno yet.

Well, I bit the proverbial bullet and signed up. God help me and my soon to be carpal-tunneled wrists. ;)

I'm already experiencing extreme pain in my right wrist sometimes, and I'm slightly concerned as to what it is... Thank god I'm ambidextrous with a mouse ;)

I've been thinking about this for three years now.
And I think I'm finally in on it. It's gotta be good.
Not...er...stressful, and frantic, at all.

Ah, another one ;) I think there are about 5 of us now that have said we'd like to, or that we will. Now we can't back out of it, but fear not, we'll be here for each other when the carpal tunnel, writers block, and sleep depravation sets in :D It'll be awesome!

All right. With support like that, I guess I'm well into it now!

Feel like I won't be able to read a book while doing it though; because (say I re-read Erikson or something) I'd only end up realising how terrible I am in comparison! Well, I guess I could read Twilight...

Does anyone actually have any solid plot/writing ideas yet? Brainstorming early, after all, isn't cheating ;)

I've got a good bunch of the plot devices done, now I need to develop the characters. Also I need to create some more specific setting locations.
That and do some more reading to get the whole horror aspect down.

i've got a pretty solid setting and a reasonably well defined plot and timeline. i just have to fill out and pinpoint where events will take place on that timeline. character development is pretty rough atm, since i started with the plot and setting, and now need to get inside these people's heads.

Darkwatch, i believe you've chosen horror as your genre, and i've chosen fantasy, because i prefer to create EVERYTHING that goes into my story (including the whole damn planet). I'm curious what genre everyone else has been thinking of writing in.

edit: i'm also planning to do a bit of experimenting with style ;)

Actually I've chosen Science-Fiction as my genre and have created the entire planet and culture. Horror will be part of it since basically no one knows what the hell is going on. In fact it should probably be more horror than sci-fi, but the very fact of it not being on Earth and the main horror element being sci-fi kind of forces the issue.

Yeah, I should really get to some planning of my own as well. Perhaps I could use the same world as the fantasy novel I'm writing? Is that allowed do you think? I won't have taken any excerpts from what I've already written, possibly just a few characters if any?

I don't see why not. Everything is still written from scratch.

Ya, I think it should be fine ;) I started my planning just a bit earlier, and already I'm quite excited.:D

I don't plan, cos it makes me feel like I've already done the work and then I can't be bothered to do the actual writing. So I just conceive a general direction and some signposts along the way, and write my way there.

As I'm gonna be using Nanowrimo to try and make progress on my WIP, there's not much brainstorming to do, though I might pop in here if I've got a thorny problem that I think you guys could help me hack through.
It is perfectly monstrous the way people go about nowadays saying things against one, behind one's back, that are absolutely and entirely true.

I have a basic (very basic!) plot in place, as well as some rough outlines of the main characters and the basic geography setup. I'm writing in the fantasy genre, that's by far what I'm the most comfortable with...and I already have a working title, yay! Now I just need to actually write the stuff. ;)

While most o my characters are in place, they have neither names nor appearances yet. Just their personalities and significance in the story I'm aware of.
What I'm afraid of, is, because of my largely unelaborated planning, I might forget a lot of the detail I've planned... Which might force me to pad the hell out of this thing xD

As a newb to novel-writing, I've plotted out most of my story except for the ending (I think I'll let the story decide that) and fleshed out the settings and the main characters (except for the appearance--just their names and roles). I've even done a bit of research...

I'm going to write a mix of fantasy (my first serious attempt at this genre) and horror.
