Firefighters have some tough training, When in training they will train for a 3 bottle fire. This is very brutal as your running around in a fire room 800-1000 Degrees and you have to have 60 +60 pounds of gear on you.
The best is they will train for a firefighter down situation where two people have to drag out a 300 pound person and still maintain enough focus to drag around a charged 1 3/4 hose lines that roughly weighs a metric shit ton. Then keep track of all the other gear like axes and pike poles.

That's gotta be exhausting. I never really knew what it was like to be so exhausted that your mind tells you that you can't do like 70% of what you normally can do and having to push beyond that to accomplish a goal before. Looks like firefighters do it all the time.
Dragging a 300 lb person over a floor doesn't sound that bad. Doing that up and down stairs while having to change directions constantly or keep an eye on fire is probably the worst thing ever though. Then wrestling the charged hose into place? Urrrgh. Puke city.

Got back into the gym today, finally. I feel like such a tool grunting and exhaling loudly when I'm the only one actual using any free weights there. There were three old folks using the machines, and another 5 walking the track. Deadlifts are loud.
But I feel awesome.

Get back to the gym tomorrow and will work solely on technique and 1RM to test the waters. Expect a much humbled Tiam who has gone to shit

Finally got back in the gym and decided to leave the 1RM japes at home. Didnt want to get in the gym, do poor technique on heavy lifts to massage my ego. So I stuck with lower weight to get technique spot on ad surprisingly it all came flooding back esp squat technique. This is unsurprising as I used to squat 3 times a week but there we are.
I will be on the Stronglift 5 x 5 programme for a while and today went
5 x 5 Squats 60 - very easy in terms of weight and I could have upped it but decided not too. technique was solid, depth below parallel, low bar squats
5 x 5 Bench 80- again very easy, power lifting style of lifting (no flared elbows, slight arch in the back but not excessive etc) and was easily done
5 x 5 Barbell rows 60 - much harder than I remember probably because its been a while. Still did them but will definitely only be progressing with a 2.5 ratio.
Dips- Difficult but again its a case of getting back into it.
chin ups- same as above
It felt great to be training again though

I've had a cold for the past week, and I ONLY feel okay while I'm lifting. It's annoying to meticulously wipe the bars and weights whenever I use them, but worth it.

Training with a cold or being sick isn't actually that bad once you're past the infectious stage. The tough part is that you flat out don't recover as fast as you would when healthy. You're okay for the first few and then you're thinking "I shouldn't be this tired, I rested like normal, what's going on?"

Tiam, what weight are you roughly?
because i'm surprised your bench is so much bigger than your squat, even at the taking it easy stage.

Its not normally Coco. Before I stopped lifting a few months ago it went DL 170-180 Squat 140-150 and Bench 105-110. Its just that squat technique is one of those things thats really important and I wanted to get it right again. I hadnt done any squats at all whereas id been doing press ups and other upper body exercises using a barbell in my room. The squats felt easy and im sure I could have done 80-90 but the form might not have been upto scratch.
Not sure how much I weight maybe 90KG

I love watching these training montages. Look at him press a normal human beings Deadlift PR while the fitness people are walking along on their treadmills. BASK IN THE GLORY OF GREATNESS!

Yes, but if your name is Derek Poundstone, porno or pressing weights are the only career options suitable for such a name.

Be right there with you.
Decided to do an 'endurance' squat session (10 sets 10 reps) straight after a 5k run.
Legs are like jelly already.

don't worry, only do that sort of thing once every 2/3 months or so, both to change things up and see if I can - squatting to the point of endurance exhaustion rather than strength exhaustion, if you see what I mean.

My squat and deadlift have doubled. Not that its incredibly impressive, seeing as they were terrible to begin with, but I'm happy. My OHP and bench press are slowly but steadily increasing too.

I was told as long as its not in your lungs you can train sick. It usually helps. I finally got to a normal workout after spending the last two sick.
I usually just make them Micro-workouts.
Like --->
10x10 Pullup
10x10 Dips
Steam Room
Or just hit a certain muscle hard. In and out 20 minutes or so.

OHP is a killer on any LP programme. I tested to see what mine was and did a set of 5 with 60 which felt tricky but doable for 5 x 5. Ill see today as its squats, OHP, DL and pull ups. DL shouldbe fun as my groin is istill in agony from last time I trained.
