Looks good Grim, well in line with my adopted mental imagine, as beautifully rendered by Onrack.
Oh, definitely interesting.
I think I found the Lich King throne, is it the one with pointy things going up? I realize that was not a great description but it wont let me link.
Found some pretty cool actual ice thrones earlier but most of them are too elaborate. I tend to think that Hood would have a more crude style. Skulls would be appropriate
Photoshop, yes, never learned to use the opaque brush though, sounds very interesting.
I see what you're saying about making him look taller, looking at it now he could probably be a bit broader too, but less human arm joints? I am mystified and intrigued
Do you mean more joints, bulkier, wonky..?
Thanks, I completely forgot about the fingers

I agree with ST. Glowing blue from the throne would be cool. See arthurs throne as the lich ling. Infact just google lich king for cool ideas. I'm thinking you should have skulls or something on the arm rests aswell...
I have a few friends who are photophobic, it causes havoc for their design presentations. If you have photo shop play around with the adjustments tool. Take a picture with a colour scheme similar to yours that has good contrasts and see if you can match the mid tones and highlights. After that you can also darken your shadows for effect with your opaque brush set to multiply. (if its too bright for your liking)
that said I really like what you've done so far Is... Perhaps you may want to make him seem taller with slightly less human arm joints. Is it intentional that he has no hair?

Yeah, Jaghut have more joints in their fingers than humans have, other than that I'm liking it so far
Doesn't seem too dark to me at all.

I should follow my own advice on the fingers, I reckon it applies to Iccy as well

I think maybe ATG is getting his Forkruls and his Jaghut mixed up? Try elongating the limbs, play around with the proportions a little, and make the joints more pronounced?

Great start Isolde, you can easily apply some Lich King inspired touches. I am a fan of pale blue glow as well!
Grim: omg, I never though Icarium might be sexy. Girl, you've nailed it. The pose captures his character perfectly.
Now, guys, you've made me think, and I decided to redesign whole picture (but If you like the first one better, I'll stick to that one). Different pose, and I'd like to put an emerging warren behind him.

I think I prefer the more casual pose of the first one, if I'm honest. In the first one I got the feeling that he was almost toying with the cards, and I liked the sense of mischief that brought to the piece. This pose seems a bit more studied somehow. My 2p anyway.

Thank you! I really wanted a pose that captured his essence and also hinted to his tragic background. Glad you think I found it

Looking at refs wasn't that much of a chore, either

I also kinda like the first one better. But he needs more of "come hither" look, hehe.
Nice work on the scars, though. And I like the warren idea

Wow. I have to say that Icarium looks really cool. Well done Grim!
Isolde I think You might have the right Idea about the throne, there are a few CG vids of the Lich King and his glowing Ice armour, It'll make awesome refs for you. I think Grim has it right its fingers that are wonky, the Arms are fine. Sorry I mixed that up.
I actually like both of them Fausti. Perhaps I like the mood of the first one and the stance of the second one.
Anyways After Watching Ninja Assasin again (Thats right, again.) I thought about it and I think Maybe Cottilion should lose the top, heres what I came up with:

Guys I've got to say these are all looking awesome and I can't wait to see the finished calendar.
Dolmen - I really do like the setting of the Cotillion drawing and the rope weapon is brillianty done (and also ST in the background). The only thing I would say is that in NoK Dancer is described as "The face and head were unremarkable; bristly short black hair, narrow fine features. No scars. The eyes, though, shone like jewels of jet" and thats how I always picture him but thats not to say he didn't change his appearance when he ascended as Cotillion!!
Anyway great work all round!!

Yes thats the vague impression I have of ShadowThrone in the back there. I might add in some eyes and an evil grin...
Hocknose thats an incredible find! As you point out Dancer had short hair and a thin face with jewels for eyes. A few pages back though Dutch found this...
As the most recent description it hints at much hair growth on Dancer. It seems Ascendents and haircuts don't go well together

I haven't seen this description on Cotillion in previous posts. I found it on my re read of Toll the Hounds, Bantam Press TBP page 525 .
From Karsa's meeting with Shadowthrone and Cotillion.
"The bare-headed one was plainly featured, pale as if unfamiliar with sunlight, his dark hair straight and loose, almost ragged. His eyes shifted colour in the sunlight, blue to grey, to green and perhaps even brown,
a cascade of indecision that matched his expression as he in turn studied the Toblakai."

It's the old 'who do you trust to hold a sharp knife next to your head behind you' thing.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

In BH, when Apsalar and Cotillion meet just before she leaves Cutter, there's also a description of Cotillion- he has a pleasant face and smile or something like that. I don't have the book on me and don't ask about pages.... but for some reason, I like the idea of him being a nice person, for lack of a better word and time to phrase this better.
.... but he looks just fine, Dolmen.... amazing.....

The only possible thing I can think of that is both in character and picture improving is for Samar to be rolling her eyes while Karsa poses, nachtfrost.

Love the torso, but the face looks like he's taking off a mask. I think it's because despite the angle of the face, the angle of the back of the skull isn't suggesting that the head is tilted quite as much as the hand placement would lead one to believe. I do like the subtle tusks though.
