Yeah, if you think she'll like a teenage romance story Your Name will work plenty fine.

Another good, recent movie you could go for that has the historical aspect is In This Corner of the World (it's a drama about the life of a rural family during WW2).

I don't really know what "she's a big history person" means though other than to recommend literal historical docudramas, but there's not a lot of good ones of those. Are fictional stories set in historical or quasi-historical settings more interesting to her? Would still be good to get an idea of what genres she likes, history or no history, and any big dislikes... ie some people really prefer anime about adults regardless of genre, or some don't care for anything really action-focused, etc.

I've never known an anime-watching girl who doesn't like Ouran Host Club, but it's a very anime anime so I'm scared to recommend it without knowing anything about her.

Solid.

So tonight is her night to pick something to watch so well see what I can learn about her tastes.

Yes, tell us!

so we ended up watching a comedian, John Delaney do stand up for a bit. Once that was done we just chatted for about an hour before nodding off.

So ill need to ask her soon what kind of shows she watches.

She likes true crime stuff (idk if thats big in anime), but maybe something like Id Invaded?
she likes Schitts Creek... apparently its canadian?
British shows... vague category... she mentioned sherlock.
Comedy stuff
Prison Break

She's also enjoying le chevalier d'eon so thats a good sign.

Id Invaded would be a good jump off I think yeah.

Canadian anime? UlyssEEEEEeeeeEEEEEEEeeeeEEEEEEEEs.

Lots of Japanese shows have Brit influence, maybe try Princess Principal or Izetta.

Oi Dorekku-san, you seen there's a Kakushigoto movie out? If not take this as notice, I'm probably going to sit down with it over the weekend.

Last weekend I finally sat down with Mugen Train. Eyebrows' eyebrows still make me irrationally angry.

Saw 3.0+1.0. It was OK, but definitely not a. 8.5/10 like MAL would have you believe. Madoka Rebellion level weirdness meets Tarantino level disjoint.

I am still of the opinion that Mari adds nothing to the film, although from discussion with others I gather Anno added her as a fuck you to certain parts of the fanbase.

Overall a 6/10 for me.

I feel like Izetta is very... er, made for boys? Not sure it's a surefire hit here. (also it just gets boring halfway through)

Princess Principal hits the british and crime/intrigue for sure, though definitely not "true crime" when they've got anti-gravity magic balls and all :p

But I dunno, from what LP says sounds like she is more into silly comedy stuff or at least dramas with a sillier comedic element to them? I wonder if something like The Great Pretender would be more her style. And actually Ouran Host Club might work after all if she won't be turned off by mid-90s animation style. Also maybe Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun?

I think the Kakushigoto movie is just a theatrical recap of the TV series, no?

Isn't every new Evangelion anything always some kind of fuck you to some part of the fanbase? Anno should really consider just getting over it and making something new for once, but I guess he just can't let it go.

I kinda love it when D'rek unleashes her nerd wrath, as I knew she would here. Sorry innocent bystanders, but someone's gotta be the kindling.

Well, 3+1 is very, VERY final so maybe now he can do exactly that.

I haven't looked into Kakushigoto movie enough to say but I'll have a gander given the comment.

Wacky comedy? Oh yeah Konosuba is getting season 3. Nice.

Mushoku and 86 second cours in the same season? It's like Christmas.

I did finish the whole first season of 86 back when, but I have no interest in another season personally. Never got into Mushoku - saw the clips, it looks very pretty, but the premise and perv humour isn't something I'd enjoy watching.

Honestly not much this season I want to watch, I'm thinking I'll only check out Blue Period and Taishou Fairytale. I saw the first episode of the Dracula Dies one and it's, like, silently funny but not actual "ha ha" jokes, so I don't think I'll watch it.

Wrapping up summer season (still have a couple final episodes to watch this weekend), Kageki Shoujo was probably my favourite episode-by-episode. Really great writing and character chemistry. But the ending is such an anti-climactic "go read the manga", so that sucks.

Sonny Boy kept on being really bizarre and captivating all throughout - feels kinda like FLCL where you just have to accept that the setting and lore don't make sense/won't be explained 'cause the focus is supposed to be the characters' feelings and growth. I don't know if I would say I loved it, but I liked it and want more like it.

Slime and Maid Dragon were more of their earlier seasons, not much to say about them.

Dropped Peach Boy Riverside after a few episodes (it was terrible) and never did end up with enough free time to grab Tsuki Isekai after all.

So far I've picked up Nosferatu (the vampire astronaut), Selection Project as I do enjoy the occasional idol show, there's a few others I want to check out but time is a little tight right now. See what else comes I guess but definitely a slower season on the surface.

Seems to be a lot of hubbaloo about this Takt show, but it sounds like any other action show with an irrelevant theme made up by looking at the nearest household object, you know what I mean? "Taki was an ordinary high school boy until aliens/demons/kaiju called MEGASHADOW invaded the Earth. Then a mysterious girl landed on him and he discovered the power of LAMP. Now him, that girl, and four other girls are LAMPFIGHTERS, the only ones who can defeat the MEGASHADOW." Not sure why it's getting so much hubbaloo.

Watched Takt Op e1. Silly premise but nicely animated and fun. The storyline is basically Omega Quintet - eldritch things hate music so music is gone but certain people fight these things... with music! First ep was enjoyable enough to continue, feels like with some improvement it could be this season's Vivy.

Banished from the Hero's Party e1 was also fun so added that to my list.

See, if it was actually fighting eldritch monsters with actual music, like the protagonist form a band, I'd be all for it. But it's really just punching/stabbing monsters while saying a bunch of music-y words, isn't it?

This is nearly boomer levels of grouch, D'rek! Show is fun and only an episode in at that.

Also picked up Assassin isekai. First episode opens with the MC blowing open a slavery/sex ring. Let's see if it continues because the opener at least was a cut above the usual isekai fare.

Being Grandpa Simpson yelling at clouds seems kinda fun tbh. Though I don't have a lawn...

and really, you're even gonna watch Yashahime season 2?? Wasn't the first season, like, notoriously bad for both newcomers and those tuning in purely out of nostalgia?

Yashahime is dumb old style monster of the week fun. Nothing more, nothing less. First season was enjoyable on those grounds so yep, it's on the list.

Bear in mind that I finished King's Game, my tolerance for bullshit is pretty high.
