Anyone watch Mushishi? I just found out there's a second season airing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who haven't seen the show, it's probably the most beautiful and ethereal anime I've seen. The animation and soundtrack are always spot on, and the stories are touching and interesting. Seriously, go watch it.

it watched about 7~eps of mushishi before dropping it. It never really left a mark on me or made me want to watch it. It may also have been a case of the hype ruining the show

It is a very slow contemplative show, so that may be a turn off for some. I've tended to watch it at night before I go to sleep, so it works well to relax me.

I haven't watched more than a single episode of Mushishi but hear its really good. The preview for season two looked really interesting.

Some mention it resembles Zoku Natsume y Jin? I'm keen for something ethereal and aesthetic right now.

I'm watching High School of the Dead at the moment...not very subtle. Its cool enough for a zombie apocalypse story but watching it with my lil sis and her anime buddy was not a great idea.

Suuuuuuper awkward.

Well, apparently there is some debate on whether they did that sensibly or whether it was too pared down - but having not seen it I cannot really comment except to say that it sounds more like the premise was odd (even by anime standards) and therefore any flaws probably were not ufotable's fault. :wallbash:

YESSS! More Durarara!!

Though I'm not sure how I feel about the timeskip...can't remember if that's in line with the novels or if it's part of the new storyline, ignoring the like...5+ extra LNs already out? Still. More Durarara!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~

I missed this the first time you posted. Great to hear this!

re: timeskips - it sounds like there's two different timeskips going on. There's a new anime season, which they are saying will be a half-year after the last season ended, and there will also be new light novels which will be two years after the last light novel ended.

I haven't read the LNs, but it seems like the first season of the anime covered approximately LNs 1-3 and there is a bit of a jump in time between LN3 and LN4. So sounds like the new anime season will more or less be starting around where LN4 and probably cover the plots of about LNs 4-8. Which means it'll be about the Blue Squares revival and a new serial killer haunting the area. Also twincest...

The last LN is 13, so they are announcing that LN14 will take place two years after LN13, but I don't think that'll make any difference for the anime for now.

So the latest Mahouka was sort of amusing. They announce this big school event and then go through this torturous process of deciding if the protaganist will be chosen to go or not... as if there was ever any doubt for the viewer? What, were they going to spend a whole episode trying to get into an event and then just end up not going? :p

I also recently watched all of Fate/Zero, which was awesome. It was very frustrating to have the same voice actors as Izaya and Shizuo from Durarara!! playing the two main rival protaganists though, because in Fate/Zero they are both so calm and rational. Every time they stopped and spoke to each other in a room I was screaming at the TV for ShizuoKirei to hurry and up throw a vending machine at IzayaKiritsugu already!

Now I'm watching Steins;gate, and only 4 episodes in I'm pretty sure this will rank in my top 5 animes ever. Absolutely hilarious!

OP MCs are okay in my book as long as they are still interesting! Like the guy from Log Horizon - he pretty much solves every problem that comes to him without too much trouble, but he has interesting quirks and it's fun seeing *how* he solves his problems because he does them in devious and interesting ways involving all sorts of interpersonal relationships.

The Mahouka MC, on the other hand, has his whole background obscured so we know next to nothing about him, he solves everything just by being a better fighter/already knowing more about everything than everyone else, and doesn't really have any interpersonal relationships except being aloof to everyone. He may turn out to be interesting later on, but right now not so much, IMO.

What is Knights of Sidonia about? At first glance it seems to be just another mecha-in-space anime?

You make a good point about log horizon. Indeed i find characters that use their brains to solve their problem more interesting that regular mc (light/lelouch for example)

First thing that needs to be mentioned is that it's all CGI, so if CGI is not your thing look elsewhere. I'd say its not just another mecha in sp[ace anime because of the tone and also the setting to a certain degree. THe thing i mentioned earlier is that starting out it has a very alien setting and the series does a good job of delivering on that in the opening episode and only slowly filling the viewer in as is needed. THere's no useless exposition. I don't want to comment too much on the show itself as it's one of those shows that hard to talk about without spoiling. The largely because i think part of the appeal of the show is the setting itself.

Another one that's looking promising is m3. It's a mecha show but the mecha aspect is tangential mroe than anything else. It's more of a supernatural mystery show with interest character interactions.

What I initially read made it sound like the anime would be 2 years after the ending of the last season - if it's the half-year skip that happens in the LNs, I will be stoked! The characters only get crazier and cooler and more random shit happens (like seriously, the first season had one proper arc to it - from what I've read of the LNs, it's just waaaaaay more complicated than that in the future! XD).

Also...is it really twincest if the people involved consider themselves as one person? (And seriously, look at who they grew up with - how they are even as sane and alive as they are is amazing. Rolling dice to set each other's personality traits is pure awesome, though...if a little bit insane. But I was so stoked when they showed up, ever-so-briefly, in episode 26. They are pure win.)

But yeah, really hope that you're right on that one. I would be a bit annoyed if the new season skipped so much awesome content...

So you are beginning to understand my love of all thintgs ufotable. Goooood. You will now be able to watch the new Fate/Stay Night they are adapting and enjoy it immensely. Seriously, once the ufotable version comes out (no matter what route they do), there will be zero reason to ever touch the original Fate/Stay Night adaptation ever again. Which will be good. Because it sucked. >.<

I am of a similar mind - I haven't finished watching it yet, but I've enjoyed what I've seen. Got Robotics;Notes to watch too, which should also be awesome.

Frankly, the MC is waaaaaaaaaaaay more OP than what you've seen so far. He starts off a ridiculously overpowered, and that's with him hiding like 90% of his capabilities. It will only get worse from here if you do not like that. XD

Yeah, and it's one of those things that works better in print - you can get little tidbits of information/perspective because the character's internal monologue can give that stuff away. He also does have atrocious relationship behaviour.

If I were to summarize him, I'd go with this:

1. Overpowered as fuck.
2. Do. Not. Touch. Miyuki. She is his protectorate and he will fucking END anything that is vaguely a threat to her.
3. Is otherwise very boring and distant.

I think the point was that he is supposed to develop a bit more personality and friends. It is a VERY slow burn in the novels, though, and that isn't helping things in the anime - like seriously, you know all the exposition/part-exposition we get about magic in the anime? There's more of it in the novels. A lot more. And a lot of it is not so much about the magic as it is about how society has changed.

Bear in mind that, like SAO, this was one of those "won a writing contest, got published" kind of tales. SAO was a lot better, granted, but they both suffer from fairly similar drawbacks - an OP MC, being the main one. The thing is, SAO did that RIGHT, and got away with it. This one sorta drops the ball a bit, by limiting the main character's relationships with anyone NOT his sister to be very bland and thin.

*shrug* I don't consider it to be a bad novel, or anime, but it's decidedly average. Expect to watch approximately 3-5 episodes of buildup for 1 or 2 of payoff, is all. It also doesn't help when most of the MCs abilities are kept secret even from the audience. But basically he is actually a Person of Mass Destruction, and Miyuki ain't kidding when she says he doesn't even need to go to school - thus a lot of issues with the plot. XD

i've been told the key to fairy tail is finding a character you like and latching on. If you don't find one it's going to be a long and dull watching experience.

What exactly do you mean by that? What if the character I choose ends up not being in the next episode? :)
