Gargantia is almost over, though. 3-4 more episodes, I think. :p

Don't think it's really a spoiler so feel free to edit it if it is but we have seen the Recon Troops since the pilot right? They were the ones saying something about reclaiming the land followed by flashes of battle? All these people look identical to me except the core group.

We also saw them coming back home after an excursion, with bad losses and getting super sad.

It is nice to see that there are some great fighters other than Mikasa :p

So I finished Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt. It's a demented, adult Powerpuffs Girls combined with a ton of innuendo, American references/riffs and stuffed full of a spirit of "okay, not too much here is actually out of bounds, so let the creativity go as far as you can".

Really liked it. Will buy the DVDs. Hope they somehow wind back around to do a second season - even if it's not necessary.

Attack on Titan is a two-cour series, so it's going for 24ish episodes, I believe.

I'm gonna recco Hataraku Maou-sama. Its childish and silly but actually quite a refreshing take on the usual fictional tropes.

Nothing brilliant but I'm finding it entertaining.

AoT 11 wasn't wowed by this one much like like 10. They both have their moments still but they've mostly been set up for what I'm hoping will be glorious action like we ve gotten in earlier eps.

I confess to not having watched either yet (got exams to study for, dammit), but I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that they are basically smack-bang in the middle of the series (and this is adapted from a story which, iirc, isn't all that fast-paced and actually bothers having some character development for the characters who are inevitably going to become Titan chow) and that there is either a really impactful episode right around the corner (midway climax) or that it's going to really hit hard in the last 3-5 episodes of the 23 episode 'season'. :p

I uhm am about to give up on Attack on Titan. I just don't have the faith that the storytelling is going to get better. It's starting to rely on one-note secondary/tertiary characters, over-explaining things and the animation is cutting corners wherever possible in order to deliver ludicrously staged, even if pretty, fight scenes.

I'm not giving up yet! Though this episode was a bit draggy - especially while they're running and blonde-glasses-girl is telling Eren a whole ton of details I'm sure he already knows. Not a good pep talk.

And I really like the animation while they're flying through the streets!

And also the music this week was fantastic!

Good.
Good.

With respect to Attack on Titan (that's the worst possible translation of the title: shingeki no kyojin) as someone who read the manga HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS ARE IN FOR A FUCKIN' TREAT

Edit: since it's a monthly manga, the anime will run the risk of running out of material. But we've got a good 2 season lead on the anIme, so expect great things!

Edit edit: where's shinrei when you need him. The best translation I have is "advance of the tians". Which is the total opposite of the engrish transration...

The manga is progressing too fast, so quite opposite of the anime I guess. Meh, not that good in my opinion.

That's basically what it means. Advance of the Giants. Perhaps a better, more idiomatic translation would be "the Giants Approach", or something, but it's not that threatening or cool-sounding. The Commie fansub group call it "The Eoten Onslaught", because they're weird like that and disagree with using Titan, because Titan is Greek mythology and not really to do with giants.
Attack on Titan is a very bizarre translation.

Maybe this is a slow game in which the setting is revealed to be orbiting around Saturn...

Anyways, I'm jumping ship. Will go catch up on other things.

Just finished Shin Sekai Yori (or whatever) and loved it. Also just finished Durarara (dubbed); love the soundtrack to this one - and everything else about it. Good stuff and thanks to all who suggested them. Tonight I think I'll start Psycho Pass and possibly Steins;Gate (though I'm not sure if crunchy or anilinkz have that one).

I had a chance to chat to a buddy about this particular problem with Shingeki no Kyojin. He reads manga alot more and is current on the planned storyline (if the anime remains faithfull that is). It turns out the show will get much better, the initial pace of the show was far too up beat to allow for the real quality of the story to come through which is actually less action oriented and more thriller/mystery. I am currently not watching it. there is a pick in pace anticipated in the next three episodes involving the next "Arc" in this plot. Will get current this week in anticipation of that.

I prefer anime that moves a bit slower, especially when it's got room for it. Can't really speak to AoT as I'm still not up to date, but I was actually rather hoping they didn't try and cram all the current plot into one season...will see how it looks once I've finished my assignment...if I finish my assignment. :S

(Actually, the best anime are ones which move at a reasonable place in their sub-plots and per-episode/two eps storylines, while slowly advancing the main plot over the course of many episodes. (Without resorting to filler) I.e. Darker than Black (season one), Witch Hunter Robin, Durarara, etc. After that it tends to depend on the type of show whether it better suits fast or slow pacing, plus how many eps it has to play with - i.e. Angel Beats did great pacing with only 13 episodes to play with, but could have done with a slower story and more episodes, sadly. But yeah...)

AoT 12 better then 10&11 but nothing is happening!! To me atleast. Only maybe an hr or 2 has passed in story the last 4 ep and its becoming stagnet. Move forward dammit and stop all the For Humanity speeches that every other character says. The show is losing steam quickly and this is really sucking having to wait a week to see the next 10-15 mins in story advancing....

Totally agree. The episodes should be longer if they want to build like this. Reminds me of early Naruto boss fight scenes.
