I havent ever been to reddit, but that layout of forum is painful to read.
The content... it all seemed very snarky (not the fun Worry snark) and petty from the throwaway guy. is this the common run of a conversation there or is it better?

/r/fantasy is usually pretty chill, which as I said above a "peaceful pond." Malazan is LOVED there and always recommended. I like it because author's are present there (Mark (obviously), Brian McClellan, Django Wrexler and others).

I hate reddit. The format is awful, their netiquette and jargon are slightly different to regular forums in ways that are jarring to me, and I dunno if it's just because most of the bigger subforums have almost too many users or if it's just because I don't read or post at any enough but I've never found it to have a proper sense of community.

I have to say though, Mark, you were definitely wrong over the 'fanboy' issue there on a quick read, regardless of the OP's motivation for raising the question or his accuracy in doing so. There's a distinct difference between fanboys and fans.

I agree with both sides of the argument slightly.

Fanboys is thrown around as a dereogatory, belittling term now to dismiss basically anyone who champions a book/media/whatever.
However there are crazy people out there who will not hear any criticism, regardless of validity of their favourite work.

That basically. It's a bit muddled nowadays with people both overusing it and adopting it as a badge of pride (hell, I've called myself a Malazan fanboy more than once, but I'm being self-depreciating when I do), but it means someone who's completely biased to a work or product (fanboyism towards games consoles and companies for example is absolutely rampant in certain places in the internet).

Well not in a literal sense but 'fan' these days clearly just means someone who likes something.
